ABC News....
“Mother accidentally shoots, kills 2-year-old daughter: Police”
A 2-year-old girl is dead after being shot in an apparent tragic accident late Friday at a Cleveland-area hotel.
Police in Wickliffe, Ohio, said Saturday that it appears as though the mother of the child was handling the gun when she dropped it and it went off, hitting the girl. Police said the girl was struck in the chest and rushed to the hospital where she died.
Wickliffe is a suburb of Cleveland, about 16 miles northeast of downtown.
Cleveland ABC affiliate WEWS reported that the mother admitted to dropping the gun in a 911 call and said the girl was not breathing. She also told operators she thought the safety was off, but then later told authorities the safety was on, WEWS reported.
Police said the gun was legally registered and she owned a concealed carry permit.
Any criminal charges would have to be filed by the prosecutor's office after an investigation by the Lake County Crime Lab, according to WEWS.“
Oh well...

“Russia and China to team up to block US attempt to "sabotage" Iran deal: report hill.cm/HMaNtjo”
While I don’t want trump to dump the Iran Deal I’m not sure I like Russia and China teaming up against the US. They do it once and it could become commonplace for other issues.

linkKyle Griffin... “John Bolton chaired a nonprofit that has promoted misleading and false anti-Muslim news, some of which was amplified by a Russian troll factory, an NBC News review found.” Its stuff like this is why you can’t believe a word that comes out of The White House. Andvthe fact the Republicans are turning a blind eye to this is why you can’t believe anything they say either.

This I can believe.

Re the Obamas and other past Presidents and First Ladies being so warm and welcoming to Melania Trump, don't forget that Melania Trump is a birther. She joined her husband in that nonsense and, unlike her husband (who, granted, probably only released his public "okay, maybe he's legit" statement under duress), has never recanted.
The Obamas' graciousness toward Melania Trump at Barbara Bush's funeral doesn't surprise me, but it's even more significant when you remember that she (MT) has been part and parcel of some of the bullshit her husband has spewed, and has defended him.

Key word: STUPID. Know that saying, when we know better, we do better? This kind of joke needs to fall into that category. Yes, it's a joke and people think it's funny or have thought it was funny. In today's climate, it's not. I know all of that. And I agree with all of that. However I do not think his particular tweet and terrible joke is worth all the internet fury. It’s just stupid. Maybe some are having trouble coming to terms with the fact that their own son/daughter are never going to get the pleasure or the joy of going to a prom. Yes, the joke has been around a long time but given the course of events, in particularly a recent event it was in bad taste IMO.

What is wrong with all these people? How can they not know what $5,000 means? Trump's trade rep spent nearly $4K on office deskBY LUIS SANCHEZ - 04/23/18 03:51 PM EDT ** Lighthizer, who was appointed by President Trump and confirmed in May 2017, purchased a desk on July 11 for $2,700, according to the ABC News report. Expedited shipping for his desk cost another $575.According to the emails obtained by ABC, Lighthizer grew unhappy with the desk and decided to replace it. “The part where ones [sic] legs go under the center drawer is not finished and would ruin suit pants. Horrible,” Lighthizer wrote, according to ABC. The desk “is not functional. Drawers are too hard to open [and] close.” He reportedly ordered a new desk, which cost $2,900 and arrived on July 27. Lighthizer’s office told ABC that the trade official covered the $575 cost of shipping the first desk. Emails show that the expedited shipping cost for the first desk was not refunded, according to ABC. Lighthizer’s office also reportedly spent $858 on a seal and $830 on two paintings. It isn’t clear if Congress was notified of these expenses, or if they put Lighthizer over the $5,000 limit. ** thehill.com/homenews/administration/384464-us-trade-representative-spent-4k-in-purchasing-desk

Washington PostThis from trump... “Here’s a great stat - since January 2017, the number of people forced to use food stamps is down 1.9 million. The American people are finally back to work!” Prompted this from Washington Post Reporter Robert Samuels... “Just because the number of food stamp recipients are down does not mean these people are getting jobs. In Wisconsin, as today's story showed, tens of thousands were dropped b/c of welfare reform and the state has little clue what happened to them. washingtonpost.com/politics/you-e….” From the article.... “The federal government is, again, following Wisconsin’s example. President Trump championed “welfare reform” this month when he signed an executive order calling for federal agencies to come up with ways to make it harder for residents to receive cash assistance through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, food stamps, housing vouchers and Medicaid. The House Agricultural Committee introduced a farm bill that would institute requirements similar to the ones enacted in Wisconsin.” and “The results in this state have been limited. Since Walker put work requirements into place, the Health Services Department said it has cut spending on food stamps by 28 percent, from $1.2 billion in 2013 to around $867 million in 2017. Officials said 25,000 food stamp recipients — out of a statewide total of 700,000 — have found work. State officials also said that more than 86,000 people have lost their ability to get food stamps and did not report getting new jobs. There’s been no government study examining what happened to them. State officials say they presume some got new jobs and didn’t bother to report them, but advocates say they see swelling numbers at churches and food pantries, where more and more people go looking for help.”
This has always been a problem with the Republicans because they truly believe people chose to be poor. And it’s with this belief is how they approach safety nets. They are convinced if people just worked harder they wouldn’t need these “hand outs” or “free stuff”.

Did Michael Flynn Jr. just reveal something very, very important about the Russia investigation?Analysis by Chris Cillizza, CNN Editor-at-large Updated 4:15 PM ET, Mon April 23, 2018 (CNN)On Monday morning, Michael Flynn Jr., the son of President Donald Trump's former national security adviser, tweeted something very, well ... interesting. "American Patriot @genflynn did not lie to Pence (or anyone else in the admin) about his perfectly legal and appropriate conversations w Russian AMB Kislyak in Dec 2016," Flynn Jr. tweeted. "Why would a highly decorated military intel officer lie about something legal? Been a MSM lie from day 1." ** So just to be clear, what Flynn Jr. is alleging is that his dad never lied to Vice President Mike Pence (or anyone else!) about his interactions with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. That runs directly counter to Pence's version of events. Pence said Flynn did not tell the truth when the two talked about interactions with Kisylak. "I was disappointed to learn that ... the facts that had been conveyed to me by Gen. Flynn were inaccurate," Pence said a week after Flynn's firing. That tweet also contradicts the explanation offered by Trump for firing Flynn in the first place. ** And it complicates -- and seemingly contradicts -- the fact that Flynn himself pleaded guilty last year to lying to the FBI about the nature and depth of his interactions with Kislyak during the presidential transition process. Flynn Jr. is now saying his father never lied to Pence about his interactions with Kisylak. Which, if he is telling the truth, would mean: 1- Pence, who has said he had no knowledge of the conversations Flynn was having with Kisylak and other Russian officials, actually did know. 2- Trump's reason for firing Flynn doesn't hold water since the former national security adviser didn't lie to Pence. 3- Flynn chose to lie to the FBI about his dealings with the Russians during the transition but told the truth to the incoming vice president about those same interactions. It's that third point that makes Flynn Jr.'s tweet about his father's veracity questionable. Why would Flynn tell Pence the truth but then lie to the FBI? The former might be a fireable offense but the latter is a crime. What would make him purposely do that? ** But man oh man, if Flynn is willing to say under oath that he in fact never did lie to Pence, then the vice president would have some explaining to do.www.cnn.com/2018/04/23/politics/michael-flynn-jr-donald-trump/index.htmlLots to think about, but it would be good to be rid of Pence too, but do we want Ryan?!?!? Maybe he knows thing we don't?!?!?!

This is not good!! Wonder if this could also affect his military career if it all comes out and he does not get the VA spot!?!?! Scramble for answers as Ronny Jackson allegations threaten to upend nominationBy Juana Summers, Phil Mattingly, Manu Raju, Ted Barrett and Jeff Zeleny, CNN Updated 8:48 PM ET, Mon April 23, 2018 Washington (CNN)Republicans and Democrats on the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee are raising concerns about allegations involving Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson, President Donald Trump's nominee to lead the department of Veterans Affairs and are reviewing them to determine if they are substantial enough to upend his nomination. Committee members have been told about allegations related to improper conduct in various stages of his career, two sources said. ** None of the senators would publicly detail the specifics of the allegations. A White House spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment. ** "We need to be asking questions and there need to be answers," he added. "At this point we are dealing with some fairly raw allegations and we need to know if there is factual support for it." ** Asked if the allegations were troubling, Tester replied, "Only if true." Asked if Democrats could determine if the allegations are true before Wednesday's hearing or if he would need to meet with Jackson again, Tester responded, 'We'll see." More on Ronny Jackson......... Some serious stuff IF true. Democrats reviewing allegations against VA nominee Ronny JacksonBy ED O'KEEFE & NANCY CORDES CBS NEWS April 23, 2018, 10:12 PMSources familiar with the tales say Sen. Jon Tester's committee staff is reviewing multiple allegations of a "hostile work environment." The accusations include "excessive drinking on the job, improperly dispensing meds," said one of the people familiar, who was granted anonymity to speak frankly about the situation. The other people familiar with the stories also confirmed those details. If proven true, "it'll sink his nomination," said one of the sources. Tester's office began hearing the allegations from current and former employees in the last several days and over the weekend, said one of the people familiar with the ongoing probe. www.cbsnews.com/news/top-senate-dem-on-veterans-affairs-asks-for-delay-in-ronny-jacksons-confirmation-hearing/** Ronny Jackson hearing postponed indefinitely as VA nomination hangs on by a threadBy Phil Mattingly, Ryan Nobles and Juana Summers, CNNUpdated 10:13 AM ET, Tue April 24, 2018GOP aides that spoke with CNN Monday night were characterizing this nomination going down as a "when," not "if," situation. Democrats huddled privately over these allegations Monday night. The bigger issue: the allegations are a trigger, not the sole reason, for Republicans to bail on this nomination. For weeks committee Republicans have been grumbling about the White House dropping Jackson, who they viewed as unsuited for the job, on their respective laps. Several GOP aides described their bosses as willing to hold off from criticism until the hearing in deference to the President's selection. Now they're confronted with these allegations and Jackson doesn't have many allies on the Hill willing to protect him. Monday's news left lawmakers and their staff scrambling, as both sides are trying to figure out what's true. As one senior Republican aide put it: "A mess. A complete, utter mess." www.cnn.com/2018/04/24/politics/ronny-jackson-hearing-postponed-congress/index.htmlIt is concerning. I hope some familiar with the military experience check in. How reporting things are handled.

Washington PostFrom the Washington Post... “Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt is expected to propose a rule Tuesday that would establish new standards for what science could be used in writing agency regulations, according to individuals briefed on the plan. The sweeping change, long sought by conservatives, could have significant implications for scores of decisions on everything from the toxicity of household products to the level of soot that power plants can emit. The rule, which Pruitt has described in interviews with select media over the past month, would only allow EPA to consider studies for which the underlying data are made available publicly. Advocates describe this approach as an advance for transparency, but critics say it would effectively block the agency from relying on long-standing, landmark studies linking air pollution and pesticide exposure to harmful health effects. The move reflects a broader effort already underway to change how the agency conducts and uses science to guide its work. Pruitt has already changed the standards for who can serve on EPA’s advisory committees, barring any scientists from serving if they received EPA grants for their research while still allowing those funded by industry. In an interview Sunday with radio host John Catsimatidis on 970 AM in New York, Pruitt described the change as a way to let the public judge “the data, the methodology, the analytics” behind any scientific analysis presented to the EPA as it drafts regulations. “That’s transparency,” he told Catsimatidis. “It gives people the opportunity in real time to peer review. It goes to the heart of what we should be about as an agency.” The individuals briefed on the rule, which will be subject to a 30-day comment period, spoke on the condition of anonymity in advance of the announcement. Many scientists argue that applying a standard to public health and environmental studies that is not currently required by peer-reviewed journals would limit the information the EPA could take into account when crafting federal limits on everything from power-plant emissions to which chemicals can be used in agriculture and in homes. Some researchers collect personal data from subjects but pledge to keep it confidential — as was the case in a major 1993 study by Harvard University that established the link between fine-particle air pollution and premature deaths. That practice would not be allowed under the new rule.” I really don’t understand why the Republicans think it’s a good idea to trash the enviroment.

But this is interesting.............. ‘Let food be thy medicine’BY REP. CHELLIE PINGREE (D-MAINE), OPINION CONTRIBUTOR — 04/24/18 01:30 PM EDT THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY CONTRIBUTORS ARE THEIR OWN AND NOT THE VIEW OF THE HILLGiving proper nutrition a more central role in the treatment and prevention of disease, the food-as-medicine movement has great potential to save lives and cut health-care costs in our country’s fight against chronic illness. Thankfully, it seems to have gained a toehold within the most unlikely of places—the Trump administration. FDA Administrator Dr. Scott Gottlieb has recently pledged to explore several options within his authority to improve Americans’ eating habits, from encouraging industry to reduce salt in processed foods to updating food labels so consumers can better understand them. “Even a small advance in the nutrition of a single individual, which might only have a limited—although discernible—impact on a person’s individual risk for chronic disease, would have a massive impact once we aggregate all those small health gains across tens of millions of lives,” .....“And I feel strongly that FDA can do more to assist the American public with creating healthier diets for themselves and their families.” ** To his credit, Gottlieb showed that he fully understands both the severity of the nation’s diet-related disease epidemic and the positive impact the FDA can have in addressing it. I applaud his promises to provide consumers with better information and pave the way for healthier purchasing options. His words are a refreshing change of pace for a Trump administration bent on thwarting any and all regulations. They also offer a bit of relief, as the FDA has delayed Obama-era initiatives on menu requirements and nutrition labeling over the last year, raising concerns that the agency was bowing to industry pressure. ** Next, I hope to see food-as-medicine ideas in the Farm Bill, including a national produce prescription pilot program contained in a bipartisan bill I introduced last year. Produce prescription programs—like one run by national nonprofit Wholesome Wave—allow doctors not only to write scripts for healthy foods, but to distribute vouchers so that patients can buy these products from local vendors. In Los Angeles, Wholesome Wave reported that 93 percent of participants met produce-consumption guidelines by the end of the program and nearly half reduced their body mass index. More at link: thehill.com/blogs/congress-blog/healthcare/384622-let-food-be-thy-medicineBut cut dollars for food, talking SNAP food boxes with CANNED veggies, canned fruit and canned meats. They have undone everything Michelle Obama did for our kids/in schools and fresh foods from the gardens. With the tariffs we may not be able to afford fresh fruit and vegetables.
