It seems these rightwinging Republicans have also killed any attempts to pass a moderate immigration bill that Ryan finally brought to the floor for a vote.

Ah. So you want an echo chamber where no one voices another point of view. Even if they might consider themselves conservative, or at least lean that way. Redhead, I don't think most of us are asking for an echo chamber. What we DON'T want is a rehash of the "Trump is the Most Evil Person Who Ever Lived" thread that already is pages and pages long. For heavens sake, if we want to hear how we are as evil as he is for not denouncing every singe thing he does including the way he combs his hair, we can just go there. I (and many others) simply quit posting when it gets personal and ugly. And that is what is being brought over here. PERSONAL attacks. I'm not saying YOU have done it (in fact as I recall without going up and rereading every post you have made, you have been pretty nice), but plenty of others have. And really, what is so wrong with conservatives having a place where they can say, "Well, I do agree with Trump on this--or this--or this" without having a flood of the "Trump is the Most Evil" thread people coming over here and telling us again how stupid we are! Honestly, the past few days, I've wondered how on earth anyone could call this the conservative thread! There are so many liberals on here once again telling us we are wrong, wrong, wrong that the conservative voices are just giving up--once again. It seems that liberals just cannot stand to let us think our own thoughts. I've said from the start that I, personally (can't speak for every conservative and for sure some totally disagree with me) welcome liberals here if they can keep from the personal attacks. I don't want an echo chamber. But I also don't want to feel that I'm crowded out in what is supposed to be a thread that supports MY viewpoint! Thanks for the thoughtful response, snowsilver. I see how many topics can be discussed without being derisive of Trump. The separation of families, though, is happening directly because of his policy choice and his enforcement of that policy. That is why I got salty. Obama had his weaknesses and failures but this - the way it was handled from start to finish, including the administraion’s lies about who can fix it - angers me more than just about anything else that has happened in the last 18-20 months. We are losing empathy and compassion as a nation, and if someone like me dates to speak out I’m met with “but Obama” or libtard or some other issue avoidance tactic. If our country can’t unite over the caging of children - no matter where those children originated from - I feel pretty hopeless and, frankly, ashamed of who the US has become. |

I found this article interesting where Mueller, in a court filing from Thursday, called out the NYT and WaPo for inaccurate reporting on his investigation.
I remember getting hammered over my questioning the use of "sources" for the never ending reports, articles and news stories early after the election.
Then, I saw ABC somehow inadvertently posted a graphic while Trump was speaking that said under him "Special Report: Manafort Pleads Guilty to 5 Charges of Manslaughter.” Mistake? My ass. There is no way this was a "mistake" made. Someone had to actually type those words out and put them to screen.
We all want to trust the news. And I hate Trump's assault on the "Fake News." But damn.

As an aside, I just saw this article on Yahoo (from Reuters) about the little girl crying that made national coverage and Time's cover. According to the girl's father, she was not separated from her mother. Go figure. This is correct. I saw or heard an interview with the photographer who was taking photos at the border crossing(I think it was there). I cannot link what I heard or saw. A crying child who was not torn away from her mother and photos of "caged" children from the 2014 Obama administration era were instrumental in setting off this outrage against Trump. At the very same time, the inescapable truth of how a ridiculous story paid for by the Hillary Clinton campaign was the basis for top FBI individuals to determine that Trump was guilty without finding actual proof and Hillary was innocent after finding hard proof that she was guilty is finally being told to the House Judiciary Hearings, all while the FBI & DOJ continue to refuse to turn over the un-redacted documents that they are required to turn over. Same old handbook. |

The cover in no way implies that the little girl was separated from her mother-- it's just a visual representation of Trump's (not-very-welcoming) 'welcome to America' for immigrants, especially the most vulnerable (children). I have no problem with the Time cover using that particular photo- and I'm going to guess they (the Time magazine staff) probably knew that when they chose her image. You have no problem with a father in a distant land seeing his child put on the cover of a magazine to "represent"? |

You'd be right if it was about keeping families together but it's not. You'd be right if it really was about racism, but racism really has nothing to do with it. Keeping families together - so called - and racism are only smoke screens to detract from the real issues. The US is in dire financial straits. As long as the public is up in arms, arguing with each other over "outrage," the easier it is to steer us away from what will destroy us. You think your children or grandchildren will have the opportunity to fare better than you? Do you think they'll even have the freedom to do so? The US is deteriorating before our eyes but we think it will never happen to us. Sooner or later, the piper has to be paid and when that time comes, the people lamenting slavery won't need to lament it anymore. They'll be experiencing it.

But personal attacks, no matter what thread, tend to shut down meaningful dialogue. And the tone often carries over to other discussions/pea interactions. |

I see protestors have decided to go directly to Kirstjen Nielson' front door.
People can say there's a few bad apples everywhere, in every party, but the actions by a LOT on the left is starting to cross over to dangerous.
Shouting her down at a restaurant, which I'd be pissed and unimpressed if I was dining there, wasn't enough. This is really starting to cross a line.

Melania has been mocked because of her accent, ridiculed when reading books to kids, criticized for wearing high heels, ripped for a $51k coat, the media spent weeks playing "where's Melania" with people wanting to know what her medical procedure was, suggested she's hiding in the basement or somewhere because she's being beat by her husband, and now some asshat thought it a good idea to suggest her son be put in a cage with pedophiles.
I think that coat was two middle fingers to the press.
