According to Forbes, the democratic base didn't turn out to vote in 2016. linkbut but but that article doesn't fit the Liberal narrative.

So....about that jacket. Who do you think the message was for? There is no doubt in my mind it was a calculated move. I have no idea, and I'm dying to know because there is no way that wasn't thought out. I hope she writes a tell-all at some point and spills the beans. I don't think it was for the media. I base that on absolutely nothing other than a gut feeling.

I see protestors have decided to go directly to Kirstjen Nielson' front door. People can say there's a few bad apples everywhere, in every party, but the actions by a LOT on the left is starting to cross over to dangerous. Shouting her down at a restaurant, which I'd be pissed and unimpressed if I was dining there, wasn't enough. This is really starting to cross a line. Try again, what is dangerous are the white supremacist rallies held by the right. Checking my calendar... and nope. No white supremacist rallies are scheduled in the near future. Not in the near future. Not in the distant future. And at absolutely no moment in the past. How 'bout y'all? Anyone here have any white supremacist rallies on their agenda?

Not a rally scheduled for miles. In fact I couldn't even find a trace of a suggestion of one.

I did see where Antifa put out a list of 1600 ICE employees that included their names, photos, and job titles. AntifaI'm sure they just wanted to expand their Christmas card list.

Only time I’ve been on here was to ask if it was going on in Obama’s day (children in cages) why didn’t republicans stop it. I got a bunch of non answers. All I got was bitching about Democrats. In other words if the Democrats did it we can too! Over and over again. I see Democrats bring up good points and still I see non answers from you. My husbands a Democrat. He warned me about you republicans. He said I won’t get anywhere we you guys. It’s like listening to broken records or hitting your head on a tree. I didn’t believe him. I wanted to find out for myself. Unfortunately he was right. I would have more respect for you if you just came out and admitted that you have no compassion for your fellow man and whatever it takes, you want your party to be right because that’s all I see here. So have at it with your sandbox and just hope that one day it’s not you that needs help and compassion. I am not a Republican. I do not care why you post on this thread. Take the anti-Trump rhetoric to one of the very many other threads. You'd have more respect for me if I lied to you and told you that I don't care about the poor people who are preyed upon by evil persons in their attempts to improve their lives. Well, that's a shame. Somehow, I'll just have to live with your disdain since I will not lie to some stranger on a public message board just so she can tell her husband that he was right. Well then conservative. If you cared you wouldn’t be a trump supporter. You guys had your warnings about him being too much like Hitler. Too late to turn back now. I know you guys hate it when we say that but I’ve always been taught if it looks like a duck, talks like a duck, walks like a duck it’s a duck. If looks like a Nazi, walks like a Nazi, talks like a Nazi it’s a Nazi. You didn’t read what I wrote. UNFORTUNATELY he was right. I hate to admit when he’s right.

So....about that jacket. Who do you think the message was for? There is no doubt in my mind it was a calculated move. I agree, definitely calculated (and a bad idea IMO). I think it was directed at the press.
Melania has been mocked because of her accent, ridiculed when reading books to kids, criticized for wearing high heels, ripped for a $51k coat, the media spent weeks playing "where's Melania" with people wanting to know what her medical procedure was, suggested she's hiding in the basement or somewhere because she's being beat by her husband, and now some asshat thought it a good idea to suggest her son be put in a cage with pedophiles.
I think that coat was two middle fingers to the press.
I'm glad that got brought up here as I was dying to discuss it but refuse to do so on that absolutely nasty other thread. My DIL and I were discussing that coat last night. To put things in perspective, my DIL teaches diplomacy and public relations at a university. Her emphasis is Middle East. Her sympathies lie with Palestine. So you can imagine how much we have in common politically. But here's the amazing thing--we can actually discuss politics without screaming and calling each other names and end up still loving each other to death! But back to the coat: We agree with what devildog said above. I think Melania has had enough! She's held her head up high when the left went to rallies with "Rape Melania" signs. She's heard her accent mocked when she's tried to fulfill her role as FLOTUS (but heaven forbid she retire to the background--then she's criticized for NOT filling the role). She's seen comedians hold her husband's bloody head up in effigy. She been criticized for her expensive clothes (guess we've all forgotten Jackie Kennedy and Nancy Reagan who most certainly matched her in apparel costs--but you know, it's different because this is TRUMP's wife), she's weathered the vicious press hounding her every move--even saying that she couldn't have had that kidney procedure because she was in the hospital longer than the press thought necessary, so it must have been a face lift---or, even MORE likely, Trump beat her and she was recovering! And now she hears a famous (whether you young'uns ever heard of him or not) actor suggest that her CHILD be ripped from her arms an put in a cage with pedophiles. All this from the left (and a lot of it agreed with by the left on this very forum). And I think she had had enough! I absolutely agree that it was a stick-it-in-your-eye slap at her critics. Even my DIL agrees that Melania has had more than enough. But she and I agree too, that she shouldn't have done it. It was not classy and it WILL be remembered to the day she dies. She has been nothing but a class act so far as FLOTUS, and I wish she'd kept it that way. But I admit that I have a teeny-tiny bit of respect for her courage. I hope that you all note that I said "I THINK" throughout all this. I cannot believe all the Peas who have posted on the other thread stating their opinions as absolute fact. No one knows the real story. We can only give our opinions.

I'll also add in addition to directing that to the press, I believe it was also directed at all of her haters and critics.

Like when Michelle was mocked. Called a man. Said she looked like a monkey (we all know what that insult meant)Ridiculed for wearing sleeveless tops. I wasn’t even a Obama supporter and I thought that was terrible I will say it’s terrible what peter Fonda said about Barron but as god is my witness I thought peter Fonda was dead.

If there's one part of the political threads that is driving me batty - it's that a conservative will bring up the fact that a policy was actually began under a previous president and be lambasted on the whole "someone else's bad behavior doesn't mean that it's okay now" while at the same time any issue with current behavior - on this thread it's threatening the president's child or mocking his wife - we get the whole - the Obama's had it worse. Seriously- check your own hypocrisy.

Being compared to monkeys. Some of the hateful things I heard come out of my family in the south’s mouth. I’m sure the south was the only place it happened. I don’t remember Michelle wearing anything disrespectful and unprofessional like that. And what other First Lady hasn’t been scrutinized! Wehave no skeletons in our closet but if my husband said tomorrow he wanted to run for president, I would say over my dead body! To tell you the truth Trump does strike me as being an abuser. I guess it’s his tantrums and the way he blew up at the football players. Calling them sons of bitches. Talking about grabbing women’s pussies. Treating him on his wives. He doesn’t strike me as having high regard of women.

I'll also say that on any given day you can find any number of people planning any number of gatherings - their bad behavior does not preclude me from forming an opinion about someone else's behavior. I have no trouble condemning all kinds of people, pretty much most of the time as civility, facts and truth seems to have vacated society.

I said AROUND HERE--and DC is definitely not around where I live, so as for your "ignorance" and "uninformed" comment, I'll leave it there-but you can be very condescending at times, and it's not appreciated. You are not the only one on the board that is informed.
