Thank you jeremysgirl, very much for sharing that. No, I can't imagine being in that position and I don't envy you. Because I know in my head (okay and sometimes out loud) I'm screaming "Do something! It is your job and your obligation and your ethical duty!!!" and I don't know any of them personally. I think I'd be devastated if I did and I had believed in them and then they sat by silently complicit while all of this is happening. I'm sorry. I keep thinking, is it possible there is blackmail material on all of them? How is the GOP getting everyone to tow the party line when it is so obviously wrong? I may not have always/often agreed with their policies but I believed the majority of people in Congress to have our nation's best interest at heart. It certainly doesn't feel like that anymore. Especially this week. This should be an easy one. An Us vs Them that is so obvious and beyond party. Ugh. Vent over. Thank you, again.

Sorry, doesn’t look like I can copy and paste on my phone without getting some rubbish in too. Not idea about the strawberries and cream and a quiet swim! It must be fake news! Oh, I don't know. It makes as much sense as anything else that has come out of his ridiculous gob.

Getting back to the talk of Trump winning a second term. I honestly think he's going to have at least one if not two primary challengers. I think both John Kasich and Marco Rubio will challenge him and I for one can't wait to see all that go down. As far as the Democrats, we need to concentrate on NOW, not two years from now. Let's not lose sight of what we need to do in November and that's turn at least the Senate blue, if not both Houses so we can render this prick a lame duck for the next two years or use him for our bidding because everybody but his base knows that until recently, he was considered an Democrat elitist Manhattanite. He doesn't care which party puts legislation in front of him, he's only worried about WINNING. I think Kasich will give it another go. I think Marco did himself in after the Florida school shootings. Ugh, I loathe Kasich-still looking for that Ohio miracle-but I will say that at least he’s 1) sane and 2) qualified. So there’s that.

Interesting report from The Atlantic about the press conference The White House Transcript Is Missing the Most Explosive Part of the Trump–Putin Press Conference
LINKI had read the original question and answer, but am gobsmacked that the White House censored it. Though I shouldn't be. I just...surely Putin wasn't admitting to their interference? How well does he speak English, or does he? I would guess that there was an instant translation available for the journalist as they spoke. I don't know for sure ig that was the case though. I know that when some of the the TV channels were broadcasting it over here the translation was running simultaneously at the bottom of the screen.

I hope so. Kasich was my choice in the republican primary. Serious question for you, and not at all a judgement or condemnation. How do you go back to trusting the GOP after their part in all of this? Of them having the power to step in front of the Trump administration and saying "this is not okay," but NOT doing so? John Kasich has actually spoken out against Trump saying he is dead wrong and calling Trumps statements in Helsinki a national security and foreign policy disaster. He is calling for elected members of both parties to speak out. I saw a memo he posted on Facebook, reposted by a friend. I am not a republican and I do not follow him, but I did use my primary vote for him against Trump.

I’ve never (before this last election) voted all one party before. I really did the research and chose all over the place. Right now, I don’t see me doing that for a long time. While the idiot in the WH is just one person, you would think easy to vote opposite next time but now it is crystal clear of the frightening agenda that the gop is pushing, all that they are eroding and the damage they are doing and allowing to happen. Comey (and others) are right—need to vote Democrat to right the sinking ship.

My answer is: I don't know. I am really struggling. I am conflicted. I am confused. I'm looking for a hero and I'm terribly afraid none exists. I worked as a staffer in my state legislature. I firmly believe it's a role every person should have to do. When you work side by side with people from the other party, you see just how human they are. You see the staffers all having the same kinds of struggles. I have had to defend positions I don't personally agree with. I have had to work with people coming from a completely different perspective than me and I have liked many of them. I am really struggling right now because a politician I worked for for a very long time in state politics is now a congressman and I am watching...what I thought was a man of principle...a man of strong Christian faith...a man who was well known for helping create economic policy with those across the aisle...and now he is silent on Trump. It is so disappointing in a way you probably cannot imagine. I defended him. I spoke to the public on his behalf for years. Because I *believed* in him even if I didn't always agree. Where does that leave me? I'm not sure. Sending you a hug. I think people who feel the way you do have it even worse than us life-long liberals. You have to maneuver through the daily shit storms AND grieve the loss of a party you loved and believed in. I really am sorry.

Where does that leave me? I'm not sure. I feel for you jeremysgirl. This was me in 2004. I had mostly voted Republican up till then, though my ballot has always been all over the place, but always Republican for President. Then the Iraq War debacle happened. And my disappointment in Bush could not be contained, the same man I spent $200 dollars of money we didn’t have to get my ballot in, because Michigan screwed up with it and I was in England. Let me tell you, that vote for Kerry still pained me. I still felt I was part of the Republican Party, but they had left me behind with the Iraq War. Then John McCain picked Sarah Palin, that was a big freaking no. I still considered Romney, and it came down to the Supreme Court for me. Now, I will not vote for a Republican for anything, at least for awhile. Voted my very first straight ticket in 2016. Felt so strange for this old Poly Sci student. But I can not vote for anyone in the Trump party. Wouldn’t have even said that in 2016. Then they showed how feckless they are in the giant shadow of Trump, and I want them all out. Useless pieces of flesh. Oops, sorry, no ranting! Just wanted you to know, I’ve been there. Even voted in Michigan with you until the 2008 Election, absentee, but I kept my Michigan residence while DH was active duty overseas. And my nerdy self is so incredibly jealous you worked in the Michigan Legislature!! How exciting was that?

His walk back is pathetic. I can't believe there are people who will accept this shit. He is a horrible person and a horrible leader. His supporters only care about 2 things: 1) He isn't Hillary 2 ) He's a white male. That's it.

^^^ from the article you linked is this line: "Though the details of the president’s meeting with Mr. Putin are not publicly known, Russia’s defense ministry announced that it was ready to put in motion the unspecified agreements Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin reached." there's a hyperlink that takes you to the Facebook page for the Russian Embassy in the US-- where the statement is expanded: "The Russian Defense Ministry is ready for the practical implementation of agreements in the area of global security reached in Helsinki between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, the ministry's spokesman, Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov, told reporters on Tuesday.
The spokesman specified that the Russian military was "ready to intensify contacts with American colleagues at the level of the General Staffs and through other available channels of communication to discuss the extension of the START treaty, the interaction in Syria, and other topical issues of military security."------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ well, that's just GREAT, isn't it!!! Except for one teensy, weensy problem- we have no freakin' idea what was discussed AT ALL in that meeting. So what DID Trump agree to?!? I really hope they can subpoena the translator and get her to speak to the Foreign Intelligence Committee... but it probably won't happen.

I'm not sure why I think that... maybe it came up in the thread when Lauren wished me dead a few weeks ago, but wasn't banned for it? im lucky if I remember My one ID much less attempting a second. 🙄 Nope, not enough brain cells firing to keep that straight.

This is the take I’ve seen on “this Russia thing” from two different people (who aren’t FB friends with one another) on FB in the last 48 hours. One is a longtime conservative Republican and the other presents herself as an Independent.
Hillary Clinton colluded with the DNC to cheat Bernie Sanders out of the nomination. Wikileaks posted the emails showing the DNC cheated. Sanders supporters got angry and didn’t vote. Russia might have given Wikileaks the DNC emails. So any Russian meddling was simply Russia letting us know what Hillary did. Duh!
They were both so darn proud of themselves for explaining the situation to the rest of us morons.

But Republicans whom actually believed in public service and giving back and were actually interested in serving the country does not exist any longer. None of the ideals of the party I thought existed would stand for the ethics breeches left and right not the constant lies lies lies. The deception, the collusion, the (imho) treason. The fact that they REFUSE to act on any of it proves that Party no longer exists if it ever did. Apparently the entire GOP had an issue understanding a thousand points of light. Who knew. Right now they need a freakin beacon to find thier heads in the freakin sand.

The full indictments are public records. But then, that'd put actual facts on the table for them to consider so I can see why they forego that option. (Sidebar: is that the word? Forego? That looks wrong, sounds right) Anyway, the mental gymnastics ability is strong with this group. X-Men level powers.

He has always been a shady con man. his entire empire was re-built from bankruptcy on Russian money after the US banks wouldn’t loan him anything. There are interviews out there in magazines with both sons saying as much. He has been Russian owned since he came out of his last bankruptcy. Anytime anyone gets a little too close to finding the money trail to prove it thier career conveniently blows up out of the blue from some scandal.

But the thing that struck me the most was how dramatically different the Republican party is now. The party of Ronald Reagan is dead now, and is not good for the country. We should be able to survive, no matter which party is in control. Now, I'm not so sure this country will survive as it is.
