The lay flat books are always way more expensive than regular books, regardless of brand you go with. I agree that BHs seems really pricey, but I don't think that's as insane as you think... the Costco one seems like it isn't really great quality and is definitely a "discount" option. I would suggest comparing with other brands, I know a lot of people like Artifact Uprising and I use Blurb. I've never ordered a lay flat book (I tend to go with the regular style because lay flat are $$$) but Blurb seems to start a 12x12 lay flat book at $95, but that's only 30 pages. You would pay more to add each page... still, I don't think you would get quite to $215 with 60 pages. I believe Artifact Uprising is more expensive than Blurb. I know Blurb frequently has coupon codes. I have used Blurb for many, many years, and just gave their layflat a try. It is THICK. It lays flat because the pages are like the pages of a baby/toddler board book. I didn't expect that, and maybe that was explained on the website and I missed it - I don't know. I just assumed it would be a thick paper and would lay flat. At first I thought I liked it, but I really dislike it. I reordered the book in regular version/pages but kept the layflat to show others I make these books for in the future what they are like. Those Costco layflat pages don't appear as thick. I probably would give them a try but I do 8X10 and I do love Blurb. |

I've ordered a lay-flat Blurb book too, and didn't care for the thickness of it at all. I don't think it was quite as bad as a board book, but the pages were stiff because they're glued back to back, so it's not a book to casually flip through - you can't fan through the pages looking for the photo you want, and if you did a lot of pages it would be massive and heavy, as well as $.$
Especially in the 7x7" size, which is my standard gifting size, the layflat seemed awkward and not worth it. I'd rather encourage people to break the spines (eek!) and order them a replacement if the binding fails down the line. So far no one has ever told me that pages were falling out of the standard cheapo Blurb books I've given for the past decade.
BTW blurb has really good coupons at certain times of the year. 15% off after buying another book is totally standard, 30% off is not uncommon, 35-40% or better around Black Friday. I always aim to get my Xmas present books done by the Monday after Thanksgiving because the best coupon usually expires that Tuesday night.

I’m not a big Becky fan (At all!!) but I’ve ordered several photobooks from the app and I’m going to tell you, they are the bomb. They are luscious. Well worth the price tag. They'd better be at those prices !  I wouldn't care if they were the be all end all. I won't support her foreclosing self or her non-stop vapid guru-ing. Speaking of quality, I've always wondered about the paper quality in her "OMG YOU GUYS, NOTEBOOKS!" She was touting how the paper quality is so good - it doesn't bleed at all. Then she went from a clean page to another notebook w/writing on the front side and she showed the back side. YIKES - I call that bleed through. You can almost read it from the back side - definitely enough bleed through to make it ugly if you write on both sides of the page. No thanks.  |

It's how they're made. Becky has a ton of ghosting in her book because she's using cheaper, lower quality paper. Archer and Olive's notebooks are $31 because they are hand crafted from high quality materials.

Oh my goodness, I think God and the fine folks at Cracker Barrel and my heart doctor might be telling me that I need to take a break from social media.  ...... (but seriously, I hadn't noticed that the FONT TC had used was Sooo hard to read, nor did I realize (until a very astute person pointed it out), that said font was used on purpose, as to "soften the blow" of the verrrry serious message she was spouting. By the wayyy....doesn't she OFTEN say she's going to leave social media quite often? OOps---I am SO sorry---this was a major highjack!!! I COULD delete it, but I'm hoping y'all won't mind !!! |

Well, my darlings, cheers to you because this would be impossible in France. You pay back or the court gets involved and forces you to pay back. Or you declare bankruptcy and no more mortgages or loans at all. Not even a single credit card. All your goods are taken to be sold except what the state considers must-haves to live (a bed, a fridge, etc.). You can't even take any money out of your bank account (frozen). When the liquidation of your goods is over and your debts are legally erased, you start afresh sans credit card or any loans for five years. This whole "conscious foreclosure" thing is completely bonkers to me. I'm not sure if this is a federal thing, but from what I know of the mortgage world, banks actually CAN go after homeowners for the difference in equity if they're foreclosed on. It would make the banks 'whole'. The problem is that most people get foreclosed on because they're too broke to pay their mortgage, not because they're moving onto something bigger and better and deciding that not paying is the better option, so the banks know there is nothing to gain and write it off. I sure hope that the bank foreclosing on them realizes that this family has deeper pockets than the majority of people foreclosed on do and takes them to court for the 200k loss they're going to be taking in selling the property. If choosing to abandon one's responsibilities with no consequence (while moving onto bigger and better things) is not the EPITOME of privilege then I don't know what is. For most people, they're lucky to find someone willing to lease to them after something like this, but somehow this lot has managed to build something from scratch. My guess is they sought the loan for the new home prior to discontinuing mortgage payments on the first house. Becky's stories mentioned a "down day", which in her world usually translates to someone not fawning all over every utterance of pablum she scoops out on her IG or in her podcast. But it made me think of the whole foreclosure thing and I wondered whether the old foreclosure might be coming back to bite them. That could put a damper on a person's day. I checked to see what happened after that whole fiasco and it appears the house was sold in June for $578,000!!!! After they left the bank(s)? holding notes for about $850,000 or so? I wonder if banks be knocking to recover their $270,000 or so in difference? After all, as scrapaddict mentioned above, it's not like the Becky family don't give off major "we have lots of money" vibes. I hope the banks get made whole. Not because I care about the banks much, but this kind of behavior should not be allowed where people have the means to make good on their obligations. |

So the debtor would have to claim that forgiven amount as income and be taxed on it. However, if you get the right tax attorney that specializes in this thing, there are many ways to get around it.
