Within my group of friends, those who are still practicing and those who aren't/left are friends. For them it is not like Scientology where you can have no contact with those who left. But that is my group and others I know who are in/not in the LDS church. I can't state how that works in Utah or within other groups. Im in Utah, and I have casual friends who are both active and ex. Deeper than that is difficult, though. The church is very much a cultural thing, though, and most members’ social lives revolve around church activities. My best friend for the last ten years or so was very active, but we mostly maintained our friendship online, because she lived in another state for the majority of the time. (She actually ended up leaving the church a couple of years ago, and I was completely blindsided. It affected many of her relationships, and even her long-term job in the scrapbook industry! Her boss, who had been like a sister to her for twenty years, no longer speaks to her.) My family is fairly accepting, and it’s easier now since I am no longer the only one who left, but it still causes issues. There are certain activities that I cannot (or choose not to) participate in. And some are a little uncomfortable when I order a drink with my dinner, or wear shorts or tank tops, just like I’m a little uncomfortable when they talk about church things. I'm sure your reasons for discomfort are different than mine, but I feel discomfort in addressing these topics in the real world, too. There is this false idea that if you're religious then you're somehow better than others and that you're some sort of heathen if you're an atheist (I can't tell you how many people I've encountered in real life and in various online communities who truly believe that atheism is the equivalent to having no moral compass...i.e. atheists are cool with dishonesty, crime, cheating, etc). I am the type that doesn't like to make waves even though I tend to hold opinions that would result in a lot of pearl clutching if said out loud, so I just nod and smile or change the subject meanwhile am screaming on the inside. However, when it comes to people ignoring my no soliciting sign, I'm getting better about shutting doors on them regardless of what they're selling, often while they're still talking and telling religion salesmen that I am happily an atheist and that they're wasting their breath on me as I close the door.
I'm actually shocked that my Mom was shocked when I began explaining to her my views on religion and that I identify as an atheist because she's never been religious a day I've known her. In discussing it with her, she somehow surmised (in an effort to console herself) that I actually am somehow not a non believer, but rather that I have problems with the church itself when in fact, both are true and the latter lead to the former.
The reality for me is that I have zero shame in who I am, but at the same time don't feel like making public proclamations that will no doubt result in people publicly or privately picking me apart. I prefer to blend in, but almost nothing I have to contribute to topics of religion (or things like sexuality) would accomplish that goal, lol.

I guess I can sort of get behind her obsession with the notebooks. I feel that way about moleskine and I’m a journaler too. There’s something very cathartic in a finished notebook full of thoughts. I’m not switching from my moleskines though. Lol

I’m not sure if any of you ever print out digital kits for your regular scrapbooks, but I did a work-related one a few years ago. I don’t sell it any more, so I would be happy to upload it somewhere and share it if anyone can use it. It was sort of a vintage-style anyway, so maybe it doesn’t matter that it’s a few years old? Anyway, if anyone is interested, let me know!

Is deep dive one of them? I swear it has been on my radar for last year or so. We need to make BINGO cards of these phrases to make meetings more fun. I know we did stuff like this for staff meetings as teachers. Some coworkers and I pick certain words and then try to use them in larger meetings without others noticing we’re doing it. It’s actually hilarious. We do that too. We will IM each other or pick a word at the beginning of the week to overuse. Now that my team lives in different states, we do most of our work over the phone. Kind of sad sometimes.

YAAAS, preach it, queen! This is where most of us spend our days five days/week. Why is no one catering to us? I'm amazed. I keep hoping KP or Christine Herrin will put an awesome stamp set on the market but nope.
Meetings, feeling like the clock is going too slowly, workload, being super busy, lunch break, today's office gossip, etc. There are so many quirks about work that can be told and are part of our everyday. I wouldn't want a value kit from BH catering to these needs but I'm sure it would sell. KP did put out a "work" stamp back when she designed for Hero Arts and I bought it. But it's more of a planner stamp and lots of it wasn't very useful. Sentiments like--deadline, meeting, conference call, let's get to work, schedule, email, organize, reschedule, make it a good day, get it done, you can do it. I get the impression it was really designed for someone who owns their own business/is in the craft blogging industry because of some of the sentiments like "post" or "upload" "make" "share." I'm sure she could make a better one though if she made it more for scrapbooking as opposed to planning. But I would really love one by Everyday Explorer! It would be fun if they made stamps with all those business buzzwords we all hate!

I think my family is afraid of what I will answer if they want to bring up church topics. We typically don't discuss religion. I think it helps both of my parents weren't raised in active LDS homes. My grandparents went to the Presbyterian church the last 30 years of their lives and the pastor spoke at both of their funerals in LDS chapels.
Oh, not an exmo myself... But yes, in that case, he definitely deserves his own planet! He's going to hie to Kolob or live with the Quakers on the moon. Not worth explaining those things.

Wow, I had no idea the LDS church stalks and hunts down people to get them to come back. That would scare and anger me big time. I’ve switched churches several times—no big deal. Why do they spend so much effort on this?

Oh god with the self care. I hate the phrase. And cultivate. Mostly because of ali and Becky. And intentional. Or living with intention how else would I be living? I’m accidentally living? I'm living by the seat of my pants. Present & in the moment are over used too

I think Becky’s perfectionism, sense of superiority, and past success led her believe she could be a lifestyle guru. The next Martha Stewart! I think those things also led to her not being able to see her own flaws and deal with failure. The Instagram stories about her frustration about technical difficulties seemed off to me, too. She seemed on the verge of tears. I’ve cried out of frustration before but I’ve never picked up my phone and started recording so I could share those feelings and lank hair with everyone. If she needs help I sincerely hope she gets it. Martha actually ‘curates’, ( ha ha ) selects & controls what she puts out there for the most part. She might tell me how to do things BUT there isn’t a verbal assault on IG daily. Also Martha hasn’t sent me a long long word salad email with barely a point, ever, not even when she was convicted, much less nearly weekly. Martha actually treats her name like the business it is.

So you can not just stop going to church and simply stop practicing? You have to lawyer up to leave the LDS church? You don't have to, but it makes it a lot easier. Here's an eye-opening page from the official church website that shows what lengths they will go to to try and "locate lost sheep" (actual quote) and get you attending again. Officially, you just have to submit a request in writing to church headquarters. Personally, I had to write and email multiple times, and (although I expressly said I didn't need a waiting period or to be contacted by anyone) I was tracked down by local church authorities... first attempting by phone, then trying through my husband, and finally showing up at my door. A few years ago, an exmormon lawyer offered up his services free of charge. It's made the process a lot less stressful for most people. There actually wasn't any way to resign from the church without being excommunicated until someone won a lawsuit... Ha ha with all it’s money and worldwide connections the Catholic Church hasn’t looked for me once ever. Lol

The BH "team" instastories are so obnoxious. They all seem to be getting worse in terms of self-importance, etc. Ok, so the 15 stories' purpose is to tell the world that the app updates are going to be late, but with no definitive arrival time. In the real world, that's a problem, not a fun event. What is wrong with these women? Have they never really worked in their lives?

I just tell them, sorry, I'm still paying off the last time I gave you money. (I know they're not actually the same as the church, but this just made me think of it!)

Lol The main issue with the Catholic Church is that you can't ever get out of their books truly (and your name will remain in the registers). You can ask to be debaptised by renouncing your baptism but you're only ever on a break. If you were to ever want to join the Catholic ranks again, you wouldn't be baptised again. You'd just be considered as having renounced your apostasy, period. It's madness considering most people never consented as an adult to being in their registers since the vast majority of Catholics are baptised as newborns, go through the first Holy Communion rite and Confirmation before adolescence.
Anyhoo. At least there's no persecution. They accept apostasy letters with a "bye b*tch" attitude and just mark your "being on a break", nothing more.

I don’t need anything to do while waiting for the update, I’m busy with working and all. To answer your question, no these women have no concept of “work” as we know it. That’s why I don’t do my nails because my job makes it pointless to keep pretty nails. It pays good though so that’s all I care about.

I was working part time retail for a few hundred dollars a month when my grace period ended for my loans after graduation and my university called me asking for donations. Within 2 years of me graduating, tuition had more than doubled and had increased 50-60% while I was attending...yet they were asking me to donate and 'pay it forward'. I honestly explained my situation to what was likely the volunteer (she sounded no older than I was, so probably a current student at the time) which was that I was barely making enough to cover my car payment and graduated student loan payments (lowest monthly option at the time) and that my husband was working 2 jobs so we could pay our bills and put food on the table because it turns out graduating at the peek of the recession with a finance degree where people with decades of experience in that field couldn't find employment didn't afford me a lot of job opportunities. She still insisted I owed the school for all it had done for me to which I replied to remove me from their call list and hung up. With that kind of reply and witnessing the continued infrastructure being added thanks to millionaire donors that they'll no doubt overcharge students for (they are building a lot of student housing and have been for the past several years...I'm a decade post graduation right now), they'll never see a cent donated from me. Secondary education entities have absolutely no shame.

“Get a pedicure”. Uh, bite me. I don’t need anything to do while waiting for the update, I’m busy with working and all. Pedicures don't come cheap either. I like my nails looking clean and nice (good for my job, too) but I can't just go get manis and pedis on Becky's command. It's done by yours truly at home, period. Getting a mani or pedi is an exceptional treat. I can't relate to the BH gang at all. AT ALL.
The mean girl gang looks so toxic. They seem to pick on Kari often. With love, of course. They needed to point out that Kari's dog's breath smelled bad, then theorised Kari had secretly farted. Like, we get it, she's the fatty of the group so you can put her down while giggling. Gah, it's like looking back at the bully girls in high school. Yikes. Wendy's truly something different. Everytime I see her on screen, it's sarcasm of the bad kind, the superiority complex kind.
Finally, all the reposting of praise for BH's notebooks was so over the top. Really, Becky figured out the bestest paper ever? REALLY? I'm not buying one to check but considering how shitty her PL paper quality has been (and it worsened over time), I doubt this very much. There are paper companies out there that only manifacture journals and notebooks and have so many decades of history to back up their knowledge and know-how. I really doubt BH is the queen of smooth paper. Pardon my skepticism.

As long as they aren’t bothering me, or looking for me I’m not going to bother with a letter or anything officially quitting. They probably don’t even know I’m me I wasn’t married in the Catholic Church

Why do they spend so much effort on this? I personally believe it's tithing. Also, no one is paid in their callings unless you are very high up. So no free labor and no more 10% of a member's income. They will probably say they are worried about our eternal salvation and you can't give up on that!

I even hope that every time she is in peril (as Pepper) that she doesn't make it so she'd be out of the never ending sequels.

Becky’s instastories did it for me today. I’m absolutely done. I have her app but I will never spend another dime in it. She and Wendy are truly mean girls. I just simply cannot deal with her anymore. I’ve spent a lot on memory keeping with Becky. I’m a pretty loyal customer. But her shenanigans are out of control. I’m done. No more.

Like I seriously feel like she is losing her grip on reality. Today it started with yet another temple photo, talking about how she never wants to leave. I don’t care about her religion and it’s getting exhausting. Then Wendy asking if she looks like Kelly ripa. I’ll answr that for her, NO. She does not. Like, not even a little. Then all the giggling. And I second what the others said, I feel like they pick on Kari. And Becky P just nervously does whatever Becky H is doing. The app update announcement, or rather the update stating there was no update was ridiculous. So unprofessional. She literally could not care less about this business anymore and it’s SHOWS. I work my butt off to live my Lowe middle class existence. I’ve got so much student loan debt, don’t even get me started. There was just something about these women giggling their way through this business announcement that made me snap. I’m so disconnected from her world. And most of all, I don’t want to contribute to her lifestyle anymore. I don’t want her to receive another dime from me.

OMG! I could not even make it through those instastories! You all are right on - they are totally unprofessional, mean girlish, and frankly bitchy and condescending. Kari seems like the only one trying to be professional and get a message across, and the rest are just “so, whatevah! We’ll do what we wanna do when we wanna do it, and you’ll like it! Look how pretty I think I am!”
I mean, the app update is, like, SO FETCH!
