I feel for ya! it's 116 here but we're supposed start cooling off to 105 lol! It's not a dry heat here like some say. Especially durning monsoon season. I lived in Tacoma for awhile, and I can remember some pretty stickness yuck in July. Utah gets like that too. We go up there to see family and I come back here to get in the pool. I just haven't been able to here with my leg. Lots of cold showers and baths. I just fee bad for my dog that has to go outside. She a BIG dog lab/akita all black all fur.And our pool is out of commision right now from storm damage with our house. Otherwise she would be in it. She is our first water dog, so I feel really bad that it's not working right now. We can't keep her out normally.

busy , I do get what you're saying. However, for me, even regular days for y'all I would be too hot...my house is at 62* right now. My body does a horrible job regulating my temperature. I actually fainted outside in March this year due to the heat. It goes beyond discomfort. So, 2 weeks where it was so hot I felt I had to move out would be a deal breaker for me. Still super jealous of the view, windows what I can see of her decorating style, and living in a historical building!

Wow, that's amazing. Someone else mentioned up-thread that they don't recall this kind of heart in Seattle when they were a kid. Neither do I. The news was showing the 5 longest streaks of 90+ degrees in history. All five were in the 2000's. Climate change is real, for sure. I love my building. My unit is a unicorn condo. After moving a lot in the 5.5 years since my ex and I split, I swore this is the last move until stairs get to be too much for me. Am I rethinking that stance? ummmm. Yeah That's what I was thinking. You have an amazing view, just beautiful. But I couldn't live like that. Are there no portable a/c units that don't require venting from outside? If finding a place with a/c is going to be really hard anyway I'd definitely exhaust that possibility before I moved. There are units that don't need to be vented outside. We had one in our closet-turned-server room at my last office. I think there is a bucket you have to empty or something.

Yes, and I run around barely dressed most of the time. It's a two-story so a bit cool downstairs in order to be comfortable enough upstairs. We turn it up for company, but also keep a stash of sweaters, warm socks, regular and heated blankets for close friends and family who visit. I can't get any more nekkid, ya know? eta: I literally can not sleep when we start inching up to 65* and above. Have to have ice on me.

MichyM, my daughter and I had to go to Bothell yesterday for a medical appointment. I don't have a viable option other than driving. Waiting for the ferry on Bainbridge was a bit toasty. But far worse was the hell that is waiting for the ferry in Seattle. There's now a "new" parking lot way down Alaskan Way. They keep you there for a while. It is tarmac (obviously) with ZERO shade. Even if you get out of your car there is nowhere to stand in shade. Zip. Nada. There are two porta potties. Nowhere to get any food or drink, not even water. I've decided to call it Purgatory. Then they send you to the "regular" ferry parking lot. Again I was parked in the sun, but at least there's shade, proper toilets, and places to buy food and drink. Hubby works at 5th and Pike. He rides a motorcycle it took him 36 minutes to get to Purgatory yesterday (and this was after 5:30 pm). Another biker came from Pier 69. It took him 56 minutes! It's absolute effing madness! Hubby's shirt was wet when he took off his biker jacket. He's shopping for a cooler version. We just had a developer come look at our house. We have a realtor coming later. It's time to get off of this rock. When even a motorcycle commute to the downtown core is hellacious, it's time to move.

Honestly I would move to a place that has AC or where I can at least have a window AC unit ,Climate change is real and that’s not going to get better for a long time if we don’t make drastic changes I was listening to NPR in the car today and they were talking about Burlington, Vermont used to have 10 days a year that where they pass 90° now it’s 40 days a years . Wow, thats quite a change. Do you remember how long ago that was? That is when/how we got our first window unit. We stumbled on it off season on clearance a few years ago. My parents (mom/stepdad and dad) all have at least one window unit in their houses We will never be without at least one window unit, we've actually talked about buying a third for just in case I think that is a smart idea! Worst case scenario? You have one you can loan out if you don't need it, but someone who has nothing does. It was on NPR this morning they just said that used to be 10 a year and that now it was 40 but no date sorry

They said the same thing, Dh said oh you guys are in an apartment. We'd have to take out a loan if we did that with our house lol! We keep ours at 76 for the low. Sometimes we'll go to 74/75 but it freaked out on us with the extreme heat. If we hit above 110 outside it's a struggle and we just replaced it 6yrs ago.

I also take tepid to lukewarm showers and have to keep the door open or I get dizzy. And the cold rinse for my hair at the end feels great. It's just a tad cooler than DH would keep it on his own so he sometimes puts a sweatshirt on over his t-shirt and shorts if we are just laying around downstairs for long periods of time. Especially on our leather couches. I also keep it very dark so if a dry cave sounds appealing to you come on over My hands are always cold though, but they often are anyway with Raynaud's. It does make it harder to adjust when you go outside, but I'm an indoor girl during the summer (it's Texas...so most of the year) so that's not much of an issue. And my sunglasses immediately fog up as soon as I open the front door. On the other hand, when you come home, it's 105* outside with a dew point of 76, you'll think you've entered heaven when you open the door.

Our highest bill was $250-$275 when the a/c needed both regular maintenance and to be repaired. We have a very energy efficient house. And our fall/winter bills are nothing as our heat only gets turned on about half a dozen times a year.

We were just in Seattle a few days ago and the weather was perfect. Heat waves with no A/C are no fun. We just got back and enjoyed it before the heatwave. Stay cool!

If you have screens on the window you could get a custom screen built that has a solid bottom with a hole cut for the vent pipe. Then when the weather cools down, swap back in your regular screen b

So I settle for standing outside for a while. Sleeping with them open sounds like heaven! But I literally can't function well in higher temps, and now he's so nervous about my fainting (has happened a couple times this year and I've come close a couple more) that I could keep it at 55* and he might give me an occasional side eye from inside his Northface Jacket, while wearing long johns and gloves, but otherwise I'd hear not a peep.

The summer I had my son, we had a heat wave. I told my husband I would not be holding the baby until we got air conditioning. We had it installed within a week. I hate the heat with a passion (if there is humidity with it).
We have been having lots of thunderstorms lately. We have had a good 8 days of storms in the afternoon and another 7/9 days to go with showers.

Although it wouldn't look pretty if you had a free-standing portable air conditioner you could hang the exhaust hose out of your window, pull the window closed up against the hose so the hose would stay in place and then tape plastic over the window opening above the hose. Not pretty but better than being miserable.

Yeah, this heat is no joke. I'm also in Seattle. My big bonus is that my daughter was diagnosed with Roseola on Tuesday after she came home from daycare with a fever of 104 degrees (and it was 105.2 an hour later after tylenol and a bath!). We went right in to the doctor and that was our diagnosis. So it's 90 degrees outside and the baby is boiling hot. She's been a trooper (doctor says she's the happiest sick baby he's seen), but it's definitely a struggle. We juuuuust got a window AC unit, but had to put it into the master bathroom window because that's the best placed area with the right kind of window. So our bedroom is cool, and my daughter's room across the hallway is a little cool (we've also got ceiling fans in both rooms). It's all a matter of strategic window opening at night and moving to the cooler areas during the daytime. My husband is staying home with her while she's sick (I'm pregnant with very limited leave time built up and need to save all of mine for when baby #2 arrives in a few months....even though I'm the MOM and I'm a NURSE)... so I get to go to an air conditioned hospital to work during the day while they melt at home. Pretty much sucks all around.
Supposed to be 78 degrees on Tuesday, which is normally a bit higher than I'd like, but right now it sounds positively wintery and I can't wait!

I hope your little one is feeling better soon. And I totally understand about strategic window openings and closings, and fan placements to help cool as much as possible. Hurray for the AC unit, hopefully it'll make the nights a little more bearable at least!

So, I hit a new record high in my place today. I love how the face of the thermostat changes to red when it's hot. Like I need the reminder. And while I appreciate that y'all want to make a portable AC unit work for my windows, me or my handyman jerry-rigging some plastic or wooden doohickey in the window to hold the hose would not fly here. At. All. But...I do appreciate you trying, and especially for listening to me whine

MichyM, we may end up on that side of the water just temporarily while hubby finishes up his job. But our plan is to leave here for sunnier climes. But places that have air conditioning for sure! We haven't figured out where yet. . . we're open to several options. No more ferries, though. My health is too iffy. I need better, easier access to hospitals and doctors. You know, if Seattle weather could be wonderful almost all year, we'd love to stay. But the long, dark winters are hard on me. And it is too expensive, too. We really can't afford housing anywhere convenient. It's hella beautiful this time of year, though.

well.. I'd bet our percentage of ac in houses is much lower than Seattle.. our AC is called.. open the window. I know one rich person who has a portable ac unit.. only one I have ever seen. our high today was 57. wore my down vest all day.
lots of fog. I grew up in seattle.. and I remember a few warm nights, when mom would cook a casserole and we would drive to careek park and have a picnic. but not that often.
San Francisco got record highs last september.. but it has been a very foggy summer... if it is still hot when I come up in august to seattle.. I'll just have to hang out with my mother in law on whidbey.. in the woods.
