Temp in my place at 10:30 last night was 84 degrees. (Seattle, no a/c) Needless to say it was a bit of a tough night. It’s cooled to 78 this morning. Weather isn’t supposed to break for another week.
Somebody said last week that their cats could be chalk outlines on the floor. That exactly describes my two. Once or twice a day I’m picking them up and wrapping them in a towel drenched in cold water for a few minutes. They’re actually relaxing into it (which I never would have expected).
Uncle. Uncle. Uncle.
Keep cool girls!

Sorry! I remember feeling that way when we were living on the west coast and here on the east coast, we have had higher humidity than usual and rain for weeks. This summer has been different than our first two summers. No, no it’s not due to global warming.

Ugh, how miserable for you and your cats! I hope it breaks soon. Y'all stay hydrated and safe! I think I'd have to check into an extended stay or other cheap hotel at this point. If it gets to that point for you, when we used to travel with ours Super 8 accepted cats.

A hotel sounds very tempting If it wasn’t for the cats I’d totally be over on the coast for a few days (provided I could find a room). It’s less than 2 hours away and 30 degrees cooler!

We were just in Seattle a few days ago and the weather was perfect. Heat waves with no A/C are no fun.

I think I'd be there even with the cats. I don't do heat and that sounds marvelous. Something to keep in mind if we ever move there! Have you considered a tub of ice water to stick your feet and hands in? I've also used (TMI warning) bags of ice or ice packs on top of my head, on my neck, under my arms, under my boobs and for my groin while I hold them with my hands. My body does not regulate temperature well so I have to sometimes take drastic measures to cool off. Have you tried the cooling towels? They work pretty well, I use them at my husbands races, the one time in the summer I have to be outside for an extended amount of time. You get them wet, wring them out, whip them in the air and then put them around your neck. I use them during the race. When he's finished basically working out for 4.5 hours in 100+ degree weather I have 2 ready for him as he crosses the finish line. One for his neck and one for his head. But he's got a lot less hair than you so I'm not sure they'd help you as much on your head

dewryce thanks for the cooling towel suggestion. I’ll pop down to REI later and see if they have any left! Can’t do the ice bath thing due to Raynauds, but the towel sounds like a viable option.

I find it impossible to get a good night sleep if the temp is over 70. We used to prop open the front door to our condo to try get a cross breeze during a heat wave and it does help.

I have Raynauds too, but my inability to regulate heat is the bigger evil for me. I like being cool/cold, I detest being at all warm and my body just can not function in a hot state. I hope the cooling towels work out for you. I know Academy carries them as well.

Oh hunny, you’re so funny. I have 5 going. I feel your pain. We visited a relative last Saturday who has a giant sized house. Everyone hung out in the kitchen. They don't like to waste money on the A/C in the summer because "the fans do the job". I was getting back sweat. Some family members were talking out of ear shot of the homeowners and making plans for staying somewhere else the following night. It was going to be a basement with air mattresses, but they have A/C!

Is a freestanding A/C unit out of the question? We have central air but it was out of commission last year for a while. The portable unit we bought for less than $400 kept the humans, dogs, and cats in my house from melting. As long as one of the windows opens about 6 inches, you would be able to vent it, and it plugs into a normal outlet.
Now that our new A/C unit is working great, we loan it to friends who need it. If we ever move to a place where nobody has central air, I'm definitely bringing it!!

Just a little after 9:30am at my house and the inside temp is already 75. :-( I read somewhere that you could tell how hot it was outside by the length of a cat!

I’m so sorry. We have five fans going in our bedroom at night just to get relief. We don’t have AC either and it has been brutal the past few days. I don’t mind the heat during the summer because it normally dips down at night, that hasn’t been happening this past week!

we had our A/C unit serviced yesterday and a new thermostat put in. we leave the a/c on for the dogs when we are at work. when i got home, the house was warm, not hot, but certainly not like the a/c was on. i told DH and he thought it was all in my mind until later in the evening when he felt the lack of colder air too. today is going to be hot so i was freaking out that we might not get the a/c company back out to check the problem. turns out, they just forgot to turn the breaker on for the a/c when they had to turn it off to check the unit. one flip of the switch and a/c was back on instead of just the fan.

oh, and a band of skunks decided to walk by our bedroom and spray. the whole bedroom filled up with skunk smell so we had to close all the windows. since i don't like to sleep with the A/C on, the room quickly got warm and rank with skunk.
