I did that before I purchased anything this year, it helped me figure out what to get and also to see what works for me and what doesn't. Last year was my first year as an empty nester, but I found I still had stuff to take photos of and journal about. When things got a little thin, I asked my kids to send me pix. That helped fill in any gaps. Oh, and I did that tag thing that Ali did last year with the short questionnaire. It's my favorite part of my 2017 DD. You could do something similar if you had any gaps you wanted to fill.
Thank you for chiming in! I will find the questionnaire! Thats a great idea. This is our last year before we are empty nesters. I think thats a big part of my problem this year. Just dreading it all not being the 'usual' at Christmas. But change is good and I know we will make new traditions, memories. It just stinks the first time you go through it.

I am going to spend some time with my old albums tonight, seeing what I *really* use each year. Its quite possible I don't need anything else as I tend to be photo heavy. I am wondering now if I am trying to over compensate with buying fillers when really I am worried that I wont have as much to document now that my oldest is in college and moved away. Hmmm. Maybe thats what my issue is these days. Something for me think about.... Methinks self-therapy can work as shown above. Your DD unrest is likely linked to your inner turmoil over dynamics changing at home. Hugs to you, my friend. Transition is a b*tch and then you'll settle into a new normal, find new things, see life a little differently. Until the kiddos become parents themselves and you're going down the grandmotherhood path. You're acknowledging and addressing the issue in the present so major kudos to you!
Now, let's hope that Canada Post doesn't go on strike! *crosses fingers for you* They should hold off until Christmas parcel season begins, right? That way, it's more fun.
Yes! The gold ones are cool. Lots of words and images. There are two 6X12 sheets in the pack. They are very good quality. Mine from ACOT came already. Thanks for letting me know! I'll probably end up buying these as AC Digitals as well. (I'm a total sucker)

To everyone else: who's joining Shimelle's JYC this year or considering doing so? ME! It will be my 5th? year I think. It's my favorite thing. But last year the official message board was a bit dead, everyone disappeared to Fbk I imagine, so maybe we should make our own tiny JYC community thread here if people are interested. We might even be able to win more people over to that pay-once-access-forever side of December documenting...

I'm going to be able to make 1,000 DDs with all the supplies I have! Yup! I have a lot of supplies for DD. I just pulled out my books from 2013 and 2014 when my daughter was in Kindergarten and 1st grade. Oh wow. Worth a million dollars. Here's what I've learned from doing it every year: too many supplies out is overwhelming. So I go through everything in mid-November, choose a color scheme, then sort out and make a big kit of supplies. I put everything else away. I make sure I have glue dots, double-sided tape, and glue stick. This year I'm going to order some ink for the printer as well. Last year I ordered a new printer on Amazon (ours had died and I had been going to Walgreen's every couple of days since it's on the way to work). I've also learned what I use and what I don't use. I love those big chipboard stickers. NEVER USE THEM. So I stopped buying them. I use stickers and small embellishments. I love putting a small puffy sticker or star on a semi-circle at the top of a photo. Stuff like that. Last year after xmas I got rid of a lot of stuff -- gave it to my mom's friend who makes cards. My weekness is numbers. I have so many number sets. I like using a different one for each day. They make me happy.

Is the Merry Days vellum in stock anywhere? It either didn’t come in or sold out super fast when everything else came into stock at Scrapbook.com.

Yeah I saw that I was going to do my purchase on ACOT but a couple of the Merry Days items I wanted were sold out already.

I signed up years ago and enjoy watching her daily videos and her album come together. While I do my Dec album daily I have a mix of "this is what I did today" and the JYC prompts. Honestly, I'm surprised there's not more noise around JYC, it is such good value (especially when you consider Ali's pay every year options). I never visit the message board for JYC but I'm happy to have a thread here to discuss all things Dec albums.

I have been thinking that I'd sign up for Shimelle's JYC this year. I'm a little sad to hear the message board isn't so active though. I think watching the videos and the prompts would be great for me though. Yesterday I started a cart at Scrapbook.com. It's mostly the Carta Bella Christmas Collection plus the Echo Park gold numbers. I'll probably pick up some Tim Holtz Christmas items from Michael's once they clear out the Halloween stuff. I'm going to have to hand over a stack of Christmas themed PP to my kids to make room for anything I order this year though. I hadn't seen anything I was excited about from Ali, KP, or even Elle's Studio. I'm going to keep browsing though some of the links I've saved from here so I'll post if I find anything else I'm excited about.

scrappyem it's the first class listed on her class page here linkIn the description there's a link to an old post with more details which you can find here. This shows the class is US$35 (or £22 if you prefer to pay in £). I think it's well worth the cost as for the last few years she has included a video almost every day (she usually skips Christmas and Boxing Day) and the class runs through to Jan 6th.

JYC has been flirting with me for a few years. Every time the subject comes up I’ve considered it. I vote for a JYC thread to get it kickstarted here and maybe get some traction for those who don’t fb.

I have never done JYC so I am clueless. edited: never mind.Should have read a few post up about everyone moving to FB.

It’s seems duplicative to have a JYC and a DD thread, plus keeping them in one place would keep it more active. This thread was originally started to track supplies as they were released, but I think as we get closer to December it makes sense to use it to share album progress as well... whether you’re using DD style, JYC, or a combination of both (or something else entirely).

Last year we had a DD product thread and a DD progress thread which quickly fell off the bandwagon. Depending on the amount of pages we have and how the Peas feel about it, we'll either continue this thread or start a new one. I do not feel like separating JYC from DD is a good idea on here. Many of us will be doing hybrid approaches so let's just embrace as many people as possible.
beascraps2 The prompts are renewed yearly although you will find some of them are similar. If you join Shimelle's class before December 1st, you can already go through all the prompts from the years before and pick some favourites to work on this December (or earlier if you're feeling Christmassy).

Somebody brought up the lack of diversity in scrapbook lines in this thread a few weeks ago but I can't find the post again (was it you, scrappyesq?). I agree and have been looking for items that include other ethnicities in the Christmas releases.
1. Crate Paper's Merry Days has a paper called Frosty Days that includes a few black/African-American characters (one of the girls building a snowman and woman in dusty turquoise coat and red pants carrying pink gift). It looks like a couple of characters are supposed to be of Asian descent (other girl/child building snowman). 2. Crate Paper's 2017 Christmas line Falala has a paper called Wonderland that represents only black/African-American characters (I just double-checked the sheet I have in my stash to make sure). 3. Tim Holtz's Paper Dolls include a few black/African-American people (albeit very little), both for the Christmas and Halloween releases.
I might purchase Tim Holtz's Christmas Paper Dolls later this month. If so, I am happy to mail free of charge the black/African-American dolls so that you don't need to buy so many white faces just to get a couple of your own ethnicity!
Just catching up on the thread. It was me who talked about this issue and thanks for finding some ethnic diversity in the papers. I’ll have to grab these. I’d love any of the Black/African diaspora paper dolls if they have not been claimed.

I’m another one who has been considering JYC for a couple years – and probably will jump in this year. For those who have participated are the prompts the same each year? The prompts themselves are almost identical year by year but the content that goes with them is always refreshed - there's a daily essay/email and pictures of past year's examples, and almost always a video of Shimelle doing her page (although it's often a daily story rather than specifically talking about the prompt, or some years she's just made a 3x4 card each day). Here and there Shimelle will switch a day around or make a change, but the great thing is that you can access the prompts any time and if you prefer to plan it all out in advance you can see the prompts now and prep, or if you know you'll be away for a few days you can see from past years what you'll miss. And you can do them in any order you want, so if you know there's a Xmas treat prompt and you're going to bake cookies on the 15th, you can plan to do that prompt that day. On the message board each prompt usually gets a discussion thread and place to share finished pages, but last year there wasn't much discussion or sharing. I don't know for sure that people were on Fbk - just that the discussion was far quieter than it had been in past years. I'm not sure if Shimelle Fbk group becomes a JYC hub - I've never joined her group. I don't mind whether we let this thread morph - probably makes the most sense. And I agree with Ms.Booty that we don't need to separate DD and JYC since most of us do some version of both, and they're basically the same thing anyway.
