I live in an Albany... but a very different one (the capital of New York, USA), but I had to laugh at seeing the word Albany jump out from your small world post. haha A very different Albany for sure. The one I remember had bantam chickens pecking around the little main road... (not any more though - it's a full on suburban mall town last I saw). It's funny how many place names are the same everywhere. My mother grew up right near Silverdale, and now I live near one too, but clear across the Pacific Ocean. It must've been strange for her to hear all the time and then eventually visit. You're doing great at keeping pretty caught up with your album and sharing it! I'm very slow going this year - I think I chose the wrong format for current mindset, but we'll see how it shakes out in the end. Maybe I'll love it once I come through the other side. I'm wishing (a little bit) that I was almost ready to be done, but not really. I'm just sick of it taking up space. I'll get there. I'm just really out of practice and trying to do something that isn't simple. And I get frustrated with clutter this time of year. I'm trying to work on my album before visiting family too, but not trying very hard.

We got back tonight from a few days away and although I've loved every minute away I'm also kind of glad to be back. We're in the middle of a hot spell so tonight is about unpacking, tomorrow is for crafting.

Happy Boxing Day to all the Peas celebrating! 🎁
I hope everyone has had a safe and merry Christmas. How's the documenting going? Did everyone get the pictures they were planning on snapping? Did you get some nice gifts?
I've just arrived home and am still digesting. 😅 The older I become, the more I realise how much I look forward to Christmas for all the food. Yes, bring me those oysters, the different types of fish, the lush smoked salmon, the champagne (@millefeuilles j'y suis allée doucement mais sûrement, hihihi 🤪), the aging wines from the wine cave that need to be drunk before they start going bad ("I volunteer!") and chocolates.
My frozen black forest cheesecake was a total success (thank you, Jamie Oliver, for the free recipe). All went well. How was it for my fellow December documenters?
I'm about to start cutting pieces of pattern paper to prepare a patchwork page (my favourite way of displaying all the patterns when I only have scraps left). I will go sew them at my mother's later this week. I've somehow managed to mostly keep up with editing the photos I took on my phone as the days went by which is a chunk of work I won't need to do in Photoshop now (A Color Story truly has saved my photo editing sanity in the past few years).
And again:

Your cheesecake looks fabulous sleepingbooty must give that a try at some stage. I’m at the gym trying valiantly to cycle away some of the food I’ve consumed over the last few days. I have some tidying to do in the garden today and then my neighbour is coming over for a drink this evening.

I left the big camera at home during our Christmas celebrations but I got a couple of good pictures each day, which is really all I need - I mean, I took lots of extra/silly pictures pictures too, but I got some to show how my nephew has grown and some good ones of him with presents and looking happy, so yay! I even captured my camera shy BIL opening a rare gift that was exactly what he wanted and a surprise, so bonus points! Not to mention getting my MIL looking at the camera and smiling with her eyes open at least once !! Today we're going to an event called Enchant which is a stadium full of twinkle lights arranged into a maze with a Christmas market and an ice skating rink. Judging by the pictures I'm seeing on Instagram it's a perfect spot for directing your Instagram Husband to capture the perfect holiday image for your grid. I figure it will be a fun place to take photos of the family so I'm going to take the big camera and enjoy the bokeh. (As if I need more photos of lights! But I'll be bitching the whole time if I miss out on the opportunity to play at photography) I'm going to work on my album a bit before we head out, but I'm seriously considering whether I want to do a digital project next year... and then I just remembered that DUH! I have plenty of digital supplies (versions of the same supplies I'm already using) so if I want to use them, I can make pages and print them for my album... I just need to dedicate some time and do something and get over my inertia. And order more photo paper.

And I would be the same way with wanting to play with my camera and the lights!! My husband has learned to wait for me to take photos I did some hybrid pages in my album, just made them digitally and printed to add into my album. Some were purely digital + printed to stick in the album. One page was mostly digital and then I added a number chipboard sticker after it was printed and I think it's my favorite spread in the entire album.

I'll be hopping back in here a little later tonight (we just started watching You on Netflix, the new series with Penn Badgley from Gossip Girl fame, so delightfully creepy and I can't quite look away to gossip in here just yet!) to read and reply to everyone's latest comments. Until then, here is today's prompt (I'll be posting daily until the 31st in case anyone still needs a bit of inspiration).
Prompt n°26: How *you* define it
Most December projects begin with a some sort of grand statement: the reason why, the goal for documenting the holidays this year, etc. While I like the idea of setting an intention, I also think we only become aware of how the current December month impacts us a posteriori, put to the test by the actual experience rather than the desire we had before it all unfolded. With Christmas just behind us, today's prompt is the opportunity to take a peek at what the holiday season has brought to you this year, thanks to and/or despite your best efforts. Pick a word that feels like it sums up your Hannukah/Christmas experience this December and definite it through that lens. What feels right to qualify this year's December celebrations? Togetherness? Family? Magic? Presence? Laughter? Light? Find your word, write it down and then give it your definition based on how it manifested itself in your life this month. You can keep it simple and go for a sentence or two, like a dictionary or go all out with several pages. There are no rules. Go through your phone or SD card and find the right photo to illustrate it. And voilà, this year's Christmas season defined according to you.

sleepingbooty that show sounds right up my alley, I'm going to try it this evening! It seems like the instagram issue is resolved so I'm going to share a few more of my pages... https://www.instagram.com/p/Br0VsmADrNi https://www.instagram.com/p/Br1NF2jDilr https://www.instagram.com/p/Br2pm1QDpjO Now I just need to complete days 24 & 25 and once I post those last 3 on instagram I will share here. joblackford Day 22 is the one I was talking about in my previous comment re: a hybrid layout. I think you would love switching it up with some digital/hybrid spreads in your album, hopefully that will get you going again! Added bonus... I think albums look great with the digital/hybrid spreads mixed in with the non-digital spreads!

anniefb You're a better trooper than I am: I haven't worked out since Monday morning. And I don't plan on getting back on schedule before January 2nd. *rubs food baby belly* joblackford Oh my, how had I never heard of Disco Santa before? It's a total mystery. Apparently, the band is called Holiday Express and did this number at the 2005 Rockefeller tree lighting ceremony? Whatever the case, I've been playing this on repeat and added it to my Christmas playlist! "Santa, Santa Claaaaus. I wanna be like SANTA!" How was the Enchant event? Did you get all the photos you wanted? Did you manage not to fall on your bum-bum on the skating rink? lasteve1 Christmas is truly the season when all knitters try to finish their wooly projects! My mother just about managed to finish her GAAA (Great American Aran Afghan) plaid on the 24th. She was still finishing sewing on the cabled border when I arrived at her place. Wishing you loads of happy knitting years! The hybrid layout (day 22) is so. good. hutchfan Here's to catching up on sleep when the grandson returns home... You're totally allowed not to stay up until midnight on New Year's Eve!

I finished up my December Daily last night! Just sharing the last two pages on instagram today and then I will come back and share here later. Tonight I hope to put away all my December Daily supplies and work on Project Life. sleepingbooty That "You" show... creepy! But also good! I watched the first one and am excited to watch the next few while working on my project life (maybe even my 2019 cover page!) tonight I just learned to knit this year, so this is really my first finished project (other than a scarf that was my "learning how" project that is extremely lumpy and full of mistakes... never to be worn by anyone!). I think next I'll make a mini blanket that matches this one for my cat because he keeps trying to steal mine! And thanks for the compliments on my hybrid layout... I've been using my apple pencil much more recently and really getting inspired to create more hybrid/digital spreads which I never really used to do, but I'm really a fan. How did your patchwork page come out? Please share pictures! hutchfan, I'm with sleepingbooty, you don't need to stay up until midnight. Idk where you live, but I miss the days I lived in California when you could watch the NYE ball drop in NYC at 9 PM, pretend it was midnight, and then go to bed Now that I actually live in New York I have to actually stay up until midnight to "experience" ringing in the New Year. Hopefully you live somewhere where you can benefit from the magic of time zones!

I've always wondered if it was possible to actually ring in the new year twice... basically celebrate in New Zealand, then get on an airplane and fly "back in time" to the prior year in Hawaii and celebrate again! Not that I think that would be fun given the rushing around and staying up for such a long time, but it would be pretty neat to say you did it.

I might try that sometime if I can ever afford to go home at Christmastime! I'm pretty sure the Hawaiian Airlines flight leaves Auckland just before midnight, so you could celebrate NYE in the air just after takeoff (or on the tarmac... a bit less glam) and then hang out in Honolulu for the night. Summer and then tropical New Year's Eve for the win. One day when I'm rich and famous (snort!) I'm going to start flying in chartered Lear jets and I'm totally going to make this happen.

Just days away from finishing the prompts and then, hopefully our albums, everyone!
Prompt n°27: The aftermath
Christmas is truly over. But what are the remnants in your home/family life? Have you taken a few photos of the kids playing with their new toys? Or snapped a cheeky self-portrait with your own new toys (bonus point if you manage to sneak in a December album meta reference by showing yourself working on your December album)? How does the quietening down after the madness look like for you this year? Are you still seeing family and friends? Is there a big pile of torn giftwrap waiting to be taken out with the recycled? Are you already starting to take some decoration down? Are you catching up on Project Life before the new year? Or are you simply enjoying all the lights and the tree on your own finally? Do you have a fully stocked fridge with loads of left-overs? Are you looking online for recipes to cook these left-overs in creative ways perhaps? Today's prompt looks at life just after Christmas, when most of us get to experience a few chill days.

Poor hutchfan getting swamped with ideas to ring in the New Year nice and early so she can head to bed and catch up on some much-needed sleep. Taking joblackford 's Auckland idea and linking the SKYCITY Facebook page where, apparently, they've been streaming the NYE fireworks in recent years.
Anyhoo, joblackford , let us know when you get super rich! I know I'll be ready with my carry-on in a matter of minutes, ready to board your specially chartered jet to double-celebrate NYE from NZ to Hawaii. I'll bring a bottle of nice bubbly! We'll need to pick up anniefb after partying in NZ. Get your lei out, anniefb !
lasteve1 Patchwork pieces still waiting to get stitched, tee hee. I'll probably see my mother this weekend and get it done then. I have a little stack of pages with ephemera waiting to get stitched. Stitch ALL the things! As for knitting, it's like making pancakes: you always have the first one not going quite right, no worries. Your blanket looks nice and regular from what I can see so it seems like you found your tension feel and are rocking it. My mum's kitties all have their own knit blankets and love them. That doesn't stop them from trying to steal the humans' plaids and sweaters though! "Mmm, 100% baby alpaca, mine!" Do you have any knitted ornament plans for next Christmas (can't believe I'm already talking about Christmas 2019)? Arne & Carlos have cute birds and baubles.

I’ve been going back through all of your wonderful prompts sleepingbooty. DS goes home on Saturday, and I’ll be ready to get down to business with my DD. In the meantime I’ve been mapping it out, along with JYC inspiration. @lasteve, we always celebrate at 9 (here in California), in bed by 10. Getting lots of rest is on my agenda for the coming weekend. This has been one busy month!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes an early night on New Year's Eve. It's never really been my thing and my DH likes to remind me I've only seen one new year in since I've been with him and that was only because the fireworks woke me up. Thanks for posting the prompts sleepingbooty. I've really enjoyed thinking about them as I fill in the gaps in my album. I have 11 pages still to complete up to Boxing Day, although it's not quite as scary as it sounds as I have almost all the photos printed and in the album, and some pages just need a little journaling or embellishing to finish. I try to get mine done before I go back to work in the new year and still think that's manageable.

I haven't stayed up and seen the new year in for many a year. I'll be tucked up in bed by 10pm at the latest!

My nephew gets his second wind around 10pm (he's on Hawaii time in Washington, and has always stayed up late anyway) so by midnight on NYE he's bouncing off the walls! I just have to remember not to go over and eat at 5pm like we did last year. It's a veeeeery long night if we do that. We got really antsy by the time we saw the East Coast celebrations and realized we had to wait another 3 HOURS... We stay up to watch the fireworks at the Space Needle which we can see way off across Puget Sound from my in-law's place. It's usually freezing though (especially for the Hawaii family) so we often watch from inside, at which point it's a battle between watching the broadcast on TV with the music, or watch it without the 7 second delay out the window. It's really tiny in the distance though! FIL used to shoot a round from his shotgun into the air over the bay at midnight but hopefully he has quit that now. We don't usually get home till 1:30. lasteve1 yes, I carry my album well past Dec 25th. I usually go until my family goes home to Hawaii, or our last special event with them, usually Jan 2. Sometimes I include the take-down on Jan 6th. We're doing a "Prance and Plunge" on New Year's Day - running/walking 5k around a lake and then jumping in it. The air temperature last year was freezing - 32, but the water was warmer - 38F >.< I've said I will try to jump in this year. I start the season with a fun run, so it makes sense to end with one too.

Three more sleeps and we're stepping into 2019, December friends! Until then, there are still pages to finish (for some of us, anyway) and a few more prompts to go.
Prompt n°28: Looking back
As 2018 comes to an end, it's time to reflect on everything that has happened, what shaped us as a society and as individuals. Today, let's dive into a little retrospection and come up with a review for the year. Add what you feel comfortable with, leave out what you don't want to remember. And if you still want to add some less joyful memories, you can always add a "Forget me" list as hidden journaling. You can focus on several areas and subjects of life: news headlines, family changes, personal changes, challenges met, highlights, new discoveries, countries travelled, projects finished, a list of favourites (trip, book read, series/movie watched, family gathering, date night, song, etc.) and much more. You can divide your page up in a more elegant manner (like Liz Tamanaha's done with her Year in Review digitals) or write up a nice bit of personal journaling. This is another great prompt to use a photo collage template or 2x2 pocket page so you include loads of images. And if, like me, you're a keen music fan, don't forget to write up your annual playlist: you may be grateful you recorded this in a few years from now. So, go ahead, and make 2018 permanent.
Song of the day:

I've had my Mom in town for the past 10 days and, while I kept up with photo taking and notes, I didn't print / put together in the album. It's bittersweet to start working on it again, but I'm really excited. Best Christmas ever.

I'm up to day 6 right now and I'm happy with this. Being displaced is hard and I'm trying to make it work. I was printing photos and promptly ran out of ink. So I have pics for another 10 days or so, which will have to do. My photo place is having a sale on prints right now so I'll put one in tonight and hopefully get caught up.
