cindytred , which part of Texas are you looking in? ETA: oh, I see now you're here in Houston. Are you looking in HISD? Or just the suburbs? Briargrove Elementary has as 5th grade position that was just posted 9 days ago - that would be a good place to work. I actually see several elementary jobs just posted in the last week. Let me know if I can help. Are you ESL certified? Special ed certified?

what part of houston are you in? are you permanent there, or can you relocate if you want to? I live in an apartment in Sienna Plantation. I'm semi permanent because I have a lease until July 1st next year. I like living here because I feel safe and my dad and brother are 10 minutes down the road. Most of the schools I've interviewed at are in sketchy neighborhoods. I'm desperate and will do just about anything for a job - but I want to feel safe too. Cindy Sketchy is relative in Houston. Those of us who are local might be able to give you some insight into which neighborhoods just look run down and which you actively want to avoid. I taught summer school in Sunnyside this year - supposedly one of the 'worst' neighborhoods in the city. Never felt unsafe for a moment. If you're avoiding HISD, please don't - I certainly had my issues with them, but the kids need good, caring teachers, and run down does not equal dangerous. It could be a good foot in the door. I don't think there's actually much of a teacher shortage here except for SpEd and middle/high school math/science. If you're looking for an elementary job this late in the summer, to be blunt, urban and a little sketchy are what you're going to find. Don't let that put you off. Those kids need great teachers, too. I'd be super surprised if you found anything in FBISD or Katy at this point. Maybe Alief - and Alief pays better than HISD.

I’m glad you asked! I was just thinking about Cindy when a lot of kids went back to school this week. I’ve been following this story with prayers for a good job for her. I hope all is well!

Cindy, you are a lovely and important person. Job hunting can destroy your very soul... it’s a trying process and such a stressful roller coaster. There’s a good job out there for you, and soon you’ll look back and reloaded you are strong and persevered.

Holy Moses slow down! No way are you a waste of oxygen! And don't feel bad, I haven't even gotten an interview yet since moving. It's frustrating, especially when I hear all about the nursing shortage and I know I'm well qualified. But I don't feel stupid and neither should you! Yeah - supposedly there's a teacher shortage too. I hope you find something soon. Cindy Cindy I hope you're doing well. I start a new job on Monday and I'm glad the other places didn't call me back because this one will be paying a LOT more. Maybe that's a sign that it's a shitty place to work with high turnover, but I'm going in optimistic, love the manager's attitude so far, and am thinking I can be pretty miserable for that pay. So hang in there because the best may be just around the corner! Five years in PA i couldn't get an interview in the places I wanted to work without that BSN--one month in GA and they're thrilled to have me on board even though the BSN is not complete. I'm finally going to be paid what I feel my experience is worth. I'm sending you all the best vibes!

Cindy, I’ve been thinking of you and hoping a job opened up? Maybe I missed an update. Hope all is well! I haven't had a positive update to give yet. There are job openings and I've been on many interviews - but never get hired. I feel like the interview I had today went really great. I felt like I made a connection with the administration. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this one. I think the universe is against me - LOL. I applied to sub and got an e-mail today saying that I didn't meet the criteria to pass the sub screening. WHAT?? I emailed them back for more info on why not. Thank you for thinking of me and I would appreciate all good job hunting vibes I can get from my Pea friends. Cindy

I always thought I had a lot to offer people - empathy for others, a good sense of humor, and kindness - but my self-esteem is in the toilet lately. LOL. I hope it will all turn out to be worth it in the end. Again, thank you for your uplifting words of encouragement. I needed to hear them today. Cindy

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry to hear of your struggles. This is so frustrating for you, and I can hear how tired and angry you are. Please hang in there and keep trying. The right job WILL come to you.
I am happy to read your update #2. Things are always better after some rest and talking to good friends. 🙂. I would just like to say, please be careful mixing the xanex with the wine. This is not a hand slap in the least, it’s actual concern. I have an aunt who overdid that combination one stressful night and almost died. Her children (all grown) were terrified, and my mom (her sister) was just beside herself with worry.
I hope HR can give you some positive answers and advic so that you can make all the needed changes and get the next position you apply for! Good luck!! 😁

Cindy
