Update #3 (9/15/18): I finally got a job offer as a teacher! Finally!! I am so relieved and thankful and excited! I'm going to be teaching 5th grade Science and Social Studies. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement, good thoughts, and prayers.
Update #2 11:30 PM ET: Thank you for all of your love and concern. I really appreciate your words of encouragement. I slept most of the day. I talked to my BFF on the phone tonight. I think I'm just about out of tears and I've worn myself out. Tomorrow I'm going to call HR and ask if there is something lacking in my paperwork so that I can get it corrected if that is the problem. I'm also going to apply to be a sub. I'm not giving up...
Cindy
UPDATE: I didn't get the job that the secretary said I had been chosen for. I also got a thank you e-mail from one of the three I interviewed for yesterday. Apparently, I'm too stupid to live. I don't know what I'm going to do. I can't stop crying. I've taken a xanax and I'm drinking wine and its only 2:00 pm. Please pray for me - or do a whatever you to do send good job hunting vibes. I really need the extra help. I'm going back to bed. I wish I was dead. ETA: I'm a waste of oxygen.
Cindy
OP: I am an elementary school teacher. I moved to Texas from Florida this summer. Before I actually moved I completed all of the necessary job application paperwork on-line. The whole month of June I waited to be called for interviews. Heard nothing.
Starting July 9 (after the holiday) I took my resume to over 20 schools and introduced myself - which resulted in 4 interviews that I felt went great. I never heard back from any of them - I think it would be nice if they sent an e-mail saying thank you but we chose someone else.
Last Thursday I had an interview with the 5th grade team without the principal or AP present. It went GREAT. On Friday I received an e-mail asking for my references - even tho they were included with all my info - I sent them again. Went most of the day Monday and heard nothing. Finally, I called the Principal's secretary and she said that the Principal was processing the paperwork for HR to hire me and that I would be receiving an e-mail from HR. I waited a few hours and I called HR. They had received nothing about me being selected for the position. They explained it takes 3 to 5 business days to process and they would be e-mailing me IF I was chosen for the job.
So, off I go on 3 more interviews today - 2 of them went GREAT. So here I sit waiting for their HR to let me know in 3 - 5 business days if I got the job.
This whole process is BS in my opinion. If I've been selected then tell me and I can start preparing for the upcoming school year for the grade level I'll be working in. If I'm not selected then I've got to keep up the job search which is not fun and stressful. I just need to know where I stand.

I hear this so often - people expect applicants to be totally on the ball, everything just right as you only have one chance to make that first impression but after interview they don't return the professionalism.
Makes me wonder what they would be like to work with/for!
Good luck with your job search hope you secure something soon.

Very frustrating to not know. I'd keep doing what you're doing. The fact that you are getting called in for interviews is great. Hopefully you'll have a job offer soon.

I agree the process is stressful and awful.
If you haven't already check your regions job network - for example google region 4 texas jobs - and there may be some jobs listed that you didn't know about.
good luck, if he really sent paperwork to HR, they will probably call soon!!

Oh how frustrating! Hope you hear back from them soon. In the meanwhile, maybe one of the jobs you are currently interviewing for may be be a even better fit. Stay positive and good luck in the upcoming school year!

That is so frustrating and it doesn't just happen in teaching. It seems like everyone wants you to hurry an interview but they will take their sweet time getting back to you.
Here in our area we cant get enough teachers hired. More positions than applicants.

It often takes a couple of days. I know the wait is agonizing. I always thought they knew as soon as interviews were over who they wanted, but big districts may have a way they do it.
A couple of times we were waiting in references to call. One time the top two were so equal, the deciding factor was whose references we could reach first.
I can't believe the secretary gave you that information.
Good luck and I hope you hear soon

The secretary really should NOT have given you that information. Unprofessional and inappropriate on so many levels. How, for example, does she know you are who you said you are? You could be a stalker ex, a current employer, etc. To say nothing of the fact that until a formal offer has been made, keep your mouth shut. So many things could happen to derail an employment contract.
I do sympathize with you heartily. The entire process is horrible and soul destroying.
One of my dds went through a job search recently. She is in demand and was juggling job offers. Nonetheless, it is remarkable how badly she has been treated even by companies who have scouted her/found her through headhunters. The job she tentatively decided to take turned bad before she signed the contract. The head of the company offered her a permanent job at $X salary. Said she would send the contract via HR. When dd got the contract it was for a VERY short temp position at 33% less than the salary offered verbally. When she called HR to ask about the discrepancy (thinking she had been sent the wrong contract entirely), the head of HR ripped into her and told her she was lucky to get any job offer with their company and she should take what she could get. When dd politely said, "I don't think this is going to work out--" the woman interrupted her and told her she would make sure she never got any job in her field in this city. (Dd then chose one of her other offers, which was permanent and for more money than $X.)

Job hunting is soul-sucking! It’s an excruciating process, and I don’t think employers recognize that. Hoping you receive a wonderful job offer soon and can begin preparing for a wonderful school year.

It is a frustrating process and you were lucky to get a little insight from the secretary (which she should not have shared with you). The principal processing it does not mean it is at the top of the pile on his To Do list. He might not get the paperwork over to HR for a day (or two). Then it is unlikely to be put at the top of the HR pile, so could take another day (or 2) before you are contacted. You are waiting anxiously to hear from them, they all have a full workload on their desk. I would continue to interview and actively job search.

Im sorry. That is really sucky. But I agree with the others - keep interviewing and also keep your fingers crossed. Its entirely possible you will still get the job but it just takes a bit longer to get the paperwork in order. My brother in law in a superintendent and I know it always takes atleast a week for his schools to get the paperwork in order, the oK to hire, etc so I would not expect anything before a week.

I was also told I was hired, by the principal, and then wasn’t. 5 references called, etc. it’s frustrating.

Oh my, I know my district didn't work like that. We had interviews, the principal told the interviewee that it would take a few days to finish interviewing and call references. Then they were each notified starting with the one who got the job so you knew if they were going to take it. The principal called each person and told them yes or no as soon as possible. We all knew people had multiple interviews.
Good luck. It must be very stressful.

That really sucks. I wouldn't hold up on my job search though! Not until I had a job offer in hand. What if the secretary had you confused with someone else?

I'm really sorry to read your update.
I wish I had some wise words to make you feel better, because I know how disappointed you must be. But PLEASE treat yourself kindly and take care of yourself. Not getting a job right away does NOT make you "too stupid to live." If you had a child that was going through a rough time such as this, what would you as a loving mother say to him or her? Show that same love to yourself, because you are worth it.
Sending prayers that things will turn around soon for you.

Cindy Please do not say those things to yourself. They aren't true. And the things you tell yourself radiate from you for others to pick up on. You are (understandably) disappointed. But you are more than a job. You will find a perfect fit for you. Hugs, friend.
