Family tradition says we are descendants of Pocahontas, but I really don't want to go there! Actually, there was a pirate named Calico Jack that actually was a relative. (I researched it, and yes, it's true.) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calico_Jack. My maternal grandmother was a Rackham.

Well my father was in navigation classes with Jackie cooper. My fathersai cooper cheated on a lot of the tests. My father managed to get out of any group that cooper was in, because the guy didn’t know how to get from one end of a room to the other. My father said who the hell would cheat at navigation, didn’t you to know how to get home?

my dad also was good friends with Norma Zimmer.. the champagne lady from Lawrence Welk. Dad knew her and her husband Randy Zimmer from skiing in Washington state in the 1940's. they also hung out in winter in Sun Valley, so they all saw each other in the winter.. as my dad spent most winters in Sun Valley. he saw lots of famous people there. but everyone leaves them alone there.

I have a couple of odd ones My grandfather ran liquor for Al Capone and he was the first Santa at Knotts Berry Farm. I partied with basketball player Scotty Pippen when he was still warming the bench for Chicago. We didn't "sleep" together, but did sleep in the same bed. I had to buy breakfast in the morning because he was broke. The Miami Dolphins were doing summer training at a Jr college I went to. I was late for class one morning and was flying down this tremendous set of stairs. Right as I got to the bottom corner, Joe Montana walked around the corner with the rest of the team behind him. I smashed into him so hard that he was knocked to the ground. You should have heard his team mates laugh. Your grandfather and my grandfather may have been friends!! My grandfather and a friend ran liquor out of Canada (via the Detroit river) in a boat! There were brush-ups with old Al I've been told.

My grandmother knew Dave (the founder of Wendy's), Jack Hanna (director emeritus of the Columbus Zoo), and a Formula One driver (forget which one). She introduced me to Jack Hanna one time when we saw him. And her sister (my great aunt) knew Mark Harmon. Both my grandmother and great aunt have passed, and I know there were many more they knew but can't think of who they were. LOL!

I went to school with Doug Flutie (football player) and my aunt dated Jim Longborg (a pitcher on the 1967 "Impossible Dream" Boston Red Sox team).

Our only claims to fame.... uh, maybe: Years ago we were hiking in Zion National Park and a group of kids with an adult male was coming down the trail towards us. We all stepped to the side to let them pass, said hello, and continued on. Later my DH insisted that it was Garth Brooks! We all said "Why didn't you say anything?". He said he didn't want to interrupt Garth and his family while they were on vacation. We STILL aren't sure if it really was Garth, but DH STILL insists it was! Our other claim (?) to fame: We live in Kurt Cobain's hometown... in fact, we live not far from the "banks of the muddy Wishkah" (you'll get this reference if you are a Nirvana fan...).

While visiting Rosemary Clooney's home in Agusta Kentucky I got to meet and get my picture with Lee Meriwether (Miss America 1955, Catwoman, Barnaby Jones show) and George Chakiris ( Bernardo from West Side Story which he won an Oscar for, dancer in White Christmas) they were both very kind and shared wonderful stories about themselves and co-stars. Heather French Henry (Miss America 2000) owns Rosemary's home so I also see her from time to time. Nick and Nina Clooney (George's mom and dad) are in Agusta often and we are on first name basis. Nina owns an Antique store that I visit. In high school the Drill Team attended camp were the Bengals trained and Cris Collinsworth Bengal player now Sports Commentator was a huge flirt he liked hanging with the girls. Brian Grant (Basketball Player) is from a town close to me and ran into him all the time in the grocery store, he still comes to town often. David Gray my middle school History teacher starred as the Dr. in Coal Miner's Daughter. My mother in law is a cousin of Loretta Lynn.

My great aunt ran a restaurant in Cleveland called the tasty shop. She said it was a front for a mobster named legs diamond ( if diamond legs. I can’t remember).
Well , bob hope was a mooch there. He was always trying to bum a meal / coffee from her or borrowing money from the patrons. He never once left a tip. Maybe that’s how bob hope got so rich?

She was/is thrilled with the twins. When I seen her this past December she said they were doing wonderful and she had a new rescue dog that George got her that she loved. I had her picture taken with me and my family for my December Daily album and she is holding her new dog.

I went to college with the coach of the Golden State Warriors, Steve Kerr. We had a couple of classes together(and we did talk occasionally) and I used to eat breakfast at the same time/place he did in the student union(totally not stalking him, LOL).
My son went to middle school with Selena Gomez in Grand Prairie, TX.

I absolutely LOVED the Brady Bunch and wished our family was as perfect and happy as them (ROFL!!!) so it was totallllly far out to me just that she walked the same hallways and breathed the same air as "MARSHAAA !!!!!!!!"

My cousin dated David Cassidy but they are both deceased now. My cousin would be so jealous! Same cousin has worked for radio stations since the late 70's, early 80's as DJ and event co-ordinator. I'm pretty sure she's met more stars than there are in the sky. (My opinion may differ from reality just a wee bit here.) Her Christmas cards each year would be the family plus a celebrity. Me? I see someone "famous" and I hide from them. It made it really awkward for me when the local weatherman was one of my son's Boy Scout leaders. (I am such a dork!) It seems David had a dog that he took everywhere and would sit in a corner fussing with that dog. My friend used to have photographs... Young David & a dog. <fans face furiously and pretends to be blase> That's swell. <David and a dog! > Just sitting off in a corner, you say. <Pictures self walking over to corner...> I could NOT understand your reply after looking at it a few times last night. Today I realized he's your avatar pik and FINALLY understood !!! He's my Angel on the Internet. I know I've talked about it here before, but I may as well mention it now. Martin Luther King, Jr attended the same seminary where my great-aunt worked as a secretary. My father would stop in at the end of the day to pick her up and would spend the time waiting talking to MLK. The seminary was founded by the family who helped build the church (the physical building) I grew up in. The church and the seminary had compatible philosophies that appealed to King. On the other hand was my mother, who later was secretary to one of the men who had been tasked to follow MLK to "get the dirt" on him. MLK was not a perfect man, nor should anyone dishonor his accomplishments by trying to deify him. He was a man of peace who wanted us to see beyond the color of one another's skin and the people who continue to want us to focus on skin color first and foremost and hold him up as their example are abusing his life's work. Why not stick Ghandi's face on posters demanding war while you're at it, because it's the same bastardization. Stop telling me I'm the one who doesn't understand as (general) you go about dishonoring the dream, founded on Christian beliefs, of seeing one another as equals while you point out skin color first and foremost in everything you do. Stop dividing us by our skin. <gets off soapbox>

Sure, one each:
My husband's godparents are Sara Bareilles' parents. His parents and her parents were great friends back in the 60 and 70s but don't see each other as much.
My uncle and cousins are cousins to Christopher Stevens, the ambassador to Libya. My parents have a photo of a large family gathering in the early 60s when he was a toddler.

It wasn’t my direct connection, but I used to work with Billy Ray Cyrus’s aunt. She wasn’t a fan 🙊 and told us a story once about him showing up to the family reunion and popping the trunk of his old junk car and setting up a display of his t-shirts to try and sell. I think that one is too good not to share 😂

Oh wait... I do have one of my own 😂. I went to school with Brad Stevens, the coach of the Boston Celtics. It was so weird to see him go up the college ranks and to the NBA because he looked and sounded just like the same teenager I remember from back in the day.

My old boyfriend’s family are all USC alumni and big fans of Trojan football. Through them I’ve met John Robinson, former coach of the Trojans and the Rams and John Jackson, who is an announcer and commentator for ESPN Radio and FSN. I’ve also met Harry Anderson of Night Court fame.

LOL, I try to stay pretty normal when I see or meet someone well known. This reminds me that my husband babysat for the local weatherman's stepkids. We've met him a few times. I suppose I should mention Senator Leahy nearly tripping over my toddler. He seemed to be in a rush and had to stop himself as he came bounding up a set of stairs because she was slowly making her way up. LOL My parents have been on a plane with Senator Sanders a few times. My dad spoke to him once about something related to the flight. People around here tend to leave well-known people to their business.

I’m related to Laura Ingalls Wilder - and I didn’t know when I was a kid and never watched little house on the prairie because I thought it was boring and annoying! I didn’t even read the books. Lol. I have now, though. I live anything Laura Ingalls Wilder real or TV. I’ve been to her her in Mansfield as well. How are you related?? I am always on the hunt for the Tab Little House lunchbox!! Lol On my mom’s side- my gramdma’s maiden name was Ingalls. Her uncle remembers playing with Laura and Mary who were his cousins I met him when he was 106 when I was young (around 10). I remember being quite impressed with how old he was. I didn’t even know about Laura at that time. Apparently no one in my family thought it was a big deal! Lol

I thought of another connection, but it isn't my own. My 4th generation grandfather knew Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln used to visit with him and my 4th gen grandfather owned the building where Lincoln and the Long Nine held their meetings.

Everything I have read seems to point that Charles and his family didn’t have much to do with any relatives after they moved from the big woods. I think I read that in her older years she lived near cousins and the daughter of those cousins didn’t know who she was. So how true is that?

Saw Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani at Atwoods in our little town (pop. 3,931) He has a house near us. Saw Blake at sonic.
We knew Susie Luchsinger (Reba McEmtire's sister) because Susie's DD rodeoed with my DD. My father bought a horse off their father and knew him from the rodeo circuit. Reba use to sing at the club my husband went to back in the day before she was famous. Her family is from our area.
My DD went to school with Chuck Norris's great-nephew. The nephew was killed in a four-wheeler accident her senior year.
