person?
My family is tired of hearing this, so I thought I would bring it to the peas. LOL
I went to college with the coach of the New Orleans Saints, Sean Payton. He was the quarterback at Eastern Illinois University when I went there. Not a real large college at the time, and he was THE man on campus. I had a class with him, and everyone definitely worshiped him. I never exchanged so much as a smile with him, but I have to tell everyone I know that I went to college with him LMAO.
I also had another semi brush with "fame" in college...I briefly dated a guy who several years later was a hot guy on a soap opera (Decker on All my Children).
Do you have any brushes with fame stories to share? I'd love to hear them!

Dawson Coyle from the Voice. His mom friend requested me on FB. We have some mutual friends. She seems really nice. I have thought I wouldn’t be surprised if we bumped into each other in the store sometime.
Walking through the grocery store the other day, I passed a young kid with the hood of his hoodie pulled up. I turned around and called him. I have this habit of saying hello to everyone I know, even if I don’t particularly care for them.
Now it’s weird. I don’t want him to think I’m fangirling. “Dawson? Hey how are you? I’m fb friends with your mom. The Joneses are good friends of mine. Tell your mom I said hi!”
Dork 😂
I did post on her wall and say if your son mentions some weird lady saying hi, it was me. 🤣

I grew up in Los Angeles and had quite a few brushes with celebrities. I went to college with some, went to high school with one. But my favorite interaction was when Wonder Woman tv show was filming next door to my elementary school. During a braek, the production let my class come over and meet her while she was in costume. It was amazing! We were in complete awe.
My first job out of college was in a law firm where several celebrities were clients. I saw Chris Farley maybe a couple months before he died. He seemed lost even then.

Hillary Swank was a middle schooler in the school where I student taught. She wasn't in my class, but she hung out there in the mornings. I have the yearbook with her pic and everything.
ETA Chrissy Teigen grew up in my hometown. I haven't met her, but dh did when he was an administrator at the high school and she and John showed up to visit last year.

A high school classmate of mine owns the Saints ~ Gayle Benson. She was really sweet and on the quiet side in high school.
Bette Midler was one of my sister's best friends in high school, used to spend the night at our house all the time.

I went to the same university as Sean Patrick Flanery and he was a casual acquaintance in '89/'90.
He graduated before I started, but spent a lot of time on campus hanging around the drama department visiting friends and professors. His girlfriend at the time may have still been a student. I can't remember though.
I had friends who were drama majors, so there were times when I'd be hanging out with them and a group of other students and Sean would be there too.
This was before his career took off. When he landed the Young Indiana Jones role, I was surprised because he was extremely quiet and faded into the background in a group. I didn't under understand at the time that an introvert could be a successful actor.

Edgar Winter (his most famous song is Freeride) was once married to my mom's cousin... I think they were divorced before I was born.
Other than that no.

I just keep thinking of more things. LOL
I am a descendant of Mary Todd Lincoln. My middle name is even Todd as are many others on my mom's side of the family, male and female. LOL I don't know the connection, but it is from my maternal grandfather's family.
Also, I am a descendant of a man named Wilmer McLean. His house was the one used by Grant and Lee to sign the treaty ending the Civil War. I am not totally sure of that connection either, but it is from my maternal great grandmother's family. I always heard a story of how during the first battle of the war, a cannonball came down his chimney, so he moved his family to the city of Appomattox, VA (or maybe Appomattox Courthouse, VA), and he said how the Civil War started and ended in his house.

Sort of. My Nana owned several clothing stores over the years. Her last store was a boutique called Sylvi's on Sunset Strip (her name was Sylvia) in Hollywood during the late 60's-early 70's. She not only sold the latest styles, she also handmade beautiful evening wear. Some of her more famous clients were Betty White, Cher, Ruth Buzzi. She had a wall in her store that was plastered with autographed photos of her famous clients. I once asked her where all of the photos were and she said she sold them with the store when she retired. She felt that is where they belonged. Nana and Grandpa were neighbors in a condo in the Hollywood Hills with a relative of Drew Barrymore. Grandpa saw her often and he once said if he'd known who she would have become he would have been nicer to her! We tried to get Nana to write a book and I even suggested the title would be "Behind the dressing room door" but she thought no one would read it.

I live in the smallest little town in the middle of nowhere. But Miss USA 2006 Tara Conner is from my hometown and has been in my salon.
My uncle worked for Conway Twitty. He managed Twitty City until it closed. So I have met Conway several times when I was a kid, even been to his house.

I’m related to Laura Ingalls Wilder - and I didn’t know when I was a kid and never watched little house on the prairie because I thought it was boring and annoying! I didn’t even read the books. Lol. I have now, though.

I grew up down the street from Jennifer Love Hewitt. Her dad and my dad were really good friends and we would have sleepovers - then she moved to her moms in the 4th grade.

Blanche Barrows was dh aunt. His uncle married her when she got out of prison. She was a very nice old lady who taught Sunday school at the baptist church while they were married. I met her once, at a funeral. Many years after her death, the friend who inherited all her stuff and had been storing it in her garage found her autobiography. She got someone to edit it and got it published. My kids think it is really cool being kin to her and one asked me the other day if I still had the book. Her dd wanted to read it. I didn't still have it but sent her one from amazon. www.amazon.com/dp/B009NXK8OI/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1

She used to be! I haven't seen her since high school (she had already moved to LA) but she was really nice then. She comes from a good family - her parents were divorced, but we knew her dad, step-bother and Grandparents really well. Good people.

If you are into ballet, meaghan grace hinkis is a friend of my daughter. And Patricia barker.
I know someone related to R Lee Ermey.
My friend hung out with David boreanaz. I have posted before about it. If my parents hadn’t told people that I left town, David and I probably be married and divorced by now. He was just my type. Tall skinny dark haired and severely depressed!

I met Sam Walton once when I worked at Wal-Mart in Mattoon, IL, right down the road from Charleston and EIU. He flew into the tiny Mattoon airport in his Lear jet and visited both the Mattoon and Charleston stores. He came through my line when I was checking someone out. He shook my hand and said hello. I think that would have been about 1985.
My husband used to teach an officers candicate course when he was in the national guard. At the end of the course, the class had a big dinner with a guest speaker. One year it was ex NFL player, Jim McMahon. I remember thinking what is he going to talk about but he actually gave a really good speech. He seemed very personable.

I used to dance with Keri Russell (from Felicity and The Americans). She is a really kind person in my experiences with her. When I worked in the US Senate in Washington DC, I met lots of influential people.

Interesting thread, I look forward to reading more! cadoodlebug ....what a CUTE photo of your sis, everyone else, and Bette! Did anyone else have to google Blanch Barrow like I did? Wow! 1. Several years ago, my sister researched part of our Dad's family all the way back to the 1700's. There is a copy of a letter one of our great, great, great grandfathers wrote to Thomas Jefferson, asking his permission to name his son after him. The copy of the very kind reply from Thomas Jefferson is obviously VERY COOL to read and it's all documented in my Heritage Scrapbook. 2. In the 80's, (near Washington, DC), my Mom worked with the son of an actress on the soap opera "All My Children". Her name was Ruth Warrick; her character's name was "Phoebe Tyler". Mom, my sister, and allll my friends and I had loved that show since the 1970's! For Christmas one year, Mom got me Ruth's autobiography, and asked Ruth's son if he could possibly get it autographed for me, and he did. It was a GREAT gift! I could NOT believe that THEE "Phoebe Tyler" wrote MY NAME, and said such nice things. I think she also wrote something funny about "Pine Valley" (the town the soap opera took place in). I still have the book and always meant to do a layout about it...maybe someday I will. Thinking back now, I wonder if her nice son took it to New York, had her autograph it, then brought it back to my Mom, OR maybe it was done through the mail. Either way.....it was very nice of him to do that!

Not MY stories, but kinda fun 1. My Dad met "The Doors" BEFORE they were famous. We wisssh he had photos of this !!! Dad had a side-job in the 60's and 70's where he and his friend were concert promoters. The poster (that I have scrapbooked) says "The Doors: America's newest FOLK band." It's always bugged me that the concert posters do NOT have the YEAR written on them! I had NO idea The Doors were ever "Folk" musicians. Anyhoo, when we asked Dad what Jim Morrison was like, he just says "he was a bit strange" Since Dad was their the promoter, he had to gather the things the artists requested. He said the type of beer Jim Morrison requested was hard to find, and that's all he remembers from the whole night. We have LOTS of photos of the musicians he/ we met, but none of the Doors. I still remember watching Pete Seager perform when I was about 7. Dad and his pal also put on concerts for Judy Collins, Joan Baez, Clancy Brothers, and others I can't remember. 2. Back in the 90's (maybe?) Dad was at the opera at The Kennedy Center (in D.C.). He went outside to have a ciggie, and ended up chatting / puffing with Supreme Court Justice Anthony Scalia. 3. My Dad also used to know Alan Greenspan---the (former ?) head of the U.S. Federal Reserve. 4. Dad was an "extra" (or as they call them---"supers") for a few operas in D.C., and LOVED meeting/ working with Placido Domingo. Dad's dream was always to be an opera singer, so to volunteer in them was veryyy fun for him! 5. In the early 70's, Dad and his second wife lived 2 doors down from Henry Kissinger (in Georgetown, Washington, D.C.). They never met him. 6. Annnnnd, Dad LOVESSS to tell us how he used to know Dave Grohl's Dad (drummer / singer of "Foo Fighters"). My sister used to roll her eyes and tease him, saying he was succch a name dropper.
