Food and treats for the critters
The 3rd critter was a splurge. LOL!
Shoes. Because of my feet issues, I wear Birkenstocks around the house. Going out shoes has proven difficult. Though, I discovered Abeo shoes at The Walking Store, when the boy & I were in Florida on a band trip. They are fabulous! I wear expensive running shoes or expensive flip flops. Born clogs work well too. It's difficult to find clothes that work with those, now.
Appliances--small & large--there truly is a difference.
Knives
Yarn--The prices make me cringe. But, the finished product is what keeps me going back for the expensive stuff.

The electricity bill. I like to be comfortable in my own house so if that means my bill is high in the summer and winter, then it is high. I simply don't care. I must have my heating and air conditioning at comfortable levels.
I don't typically splurge on hair care products, shoes or clothes. I don't wear make up. I do like to buy some higher priced nail polish though, I have been spending around $50/month on nail polish lately.
My horses would be the other big expense. I am very lucky in that I have not yet had to pay for vet care (a vet gave them to us and has not charged us for their care since then) but my god hay and grain are expensive. And the farrier. And their tack. Etc etc. They are big brown money pits but I wouldn't trade them for the world.

Shoes, hairdresser, good food choices, mattress.
In the end I think you get what you pay for. If it's something that's an important item to my health or one that needs to last, then it's worth spending a bit more.

Real butter. I topped buying the margarine, I figure that the nutrition is similar (and now they're saying butter is actually better) but the taste is so much better.
Clothing - I started subscribing to Gwynnie Bee at the end of last school year, took the summer off, and have started up the 2 items at a time plan. We are supposed to wear our college shirts on Wednesdays, school colors on Fridays - so once a week, I wear my own 'nice' stuff, twice a week it's jeans/tee shirt, and the other two it's GW. I've worn some really nice things that I would NEVER have bought (a dress that retails for $160-200? Never!) and it's fun being able to wear something new and different each week.
Skates - when I started playing hockey, I got some cheap skates because I didn't know if I'd stick with it. $199, and after 18 months they were falling apart. When I got my new ones, I wanted to upgrade - I tried on some that were $300-400 but ended up getting the $550 ones because they felt so much sturdier. The guy told me they'd last 5-6 years at my level of play. I've had them for a year now and they show NO signs of wear or tear - no bending at the ankles, no cuts, no lace eye things ripping out, etc. They are as comfortable as the day I got them and I love them. Meanwhile, DH got a pair when he started, replaced them a year later (with the $199 model I bought the first time) and his 'new' ones already look bad - they have cuts, tears, they are weak, etc. We play the same position (defense) and take pucks and blades to our feet in equal amounts, but his look so much worse than mine do. I told him next time - he's getting the nicer ones!
