There was also a bag that had three new in the package punches. I didn't need any of those either. It was killing me because the prices were pretty good. Lucky - if punches show up at our stores, they're almost always one to a bag and 5$+ each. I've been feeling similarly about most punches - I don't use them enough to justify the space they take up in most cases. I do use my Fiskars Thick circle punch a good bit, and a standard 3/4" one, plus the decorative corner punches but the rest mostly languish. It's just easier to get dies and they generally cut cleaner, especially for intricate designs.

On the organization thread older style albums with the sticky pages was mentioned for SB organization. I bought a decent sized one for $1.00 and used up every page! I need to buy more.

Embri I do understand. I know every one assumes I am Overwatch tourney girl. No, that is never ever happening, ROFL! I think people say you are a Gamer you are die hard COD or Overwatch. I can't shoot. My DH is good at FPS. He doesn't play COD or Overwatch either. He is single player like Metro Exodus, Fallout, etc.... I am excellent at Assassin's Creed, lol. I will brag. GTA is one of my favorites but DH & I both play it together. Our friends tease us that because we do play GTA together we complete the games 100%. We really do. I can drive around San Andreas and find everything. My DH does all the shooting, lol. I still love punches. I would have been tempted by those bags, lol.

I went to a tag sale a few streets from my house twice on Friday. I went before work and then after work. The woman had tons of new in the package craft stuff. I bought:
- 2 6x6 paper pads for $1 each
- 6 one-inch wide, natural bristle, paint brushes for .25 cents each. The bristles where wrapped so I know they are nice and clean.
- vinyl decal, .50 cents
- acrylic stamps with matching dies, .50 cents each
- picture frames
- 2 tools at $2 each
I also got some household stuff.
The second time I cashed out I asked if they were divers. She looked at me like she didn't have a clue what I was talking about and started falling all over herself saying she got the stuff from doing product reviews. Well, I don't think you get 8 identical turkey craft kits to review. I told her that I was fine with people dumpster diving and that noticing some spray paint on some packaging made me wonder. She then said her uncle dumpster dives.

I don't know how I almost forgot. I went to an estate sale yesterday and the person was a crafter, paper crafts, wood, yarn, ceramic. It was being run by a company for the family. Prices were okay to way too high. I bought a scrapping tote. It's the kind that looks like a purse that stands on a table and has pockets and lots of places to put pens and scissors and stuff. It was very clean and only $3. I also got a hard cover paper crafts book for my oldest child for $1.
There were paper punches new in packages for $3 each. Some nice rubber stamps at $5. They were new but I wouldn't pay more than $3 each for them, they weren't that special. I would have liked to have been there at the end of the day to see what kind of deals they were making. It was a cash only, one day sale.

Beginning and end are the most lucrative for private sales - early to grab the best things, and late for the sweetest of deals. A scrap tote sounds useful if you travel to craft often, and you can't argue with that price!

Some nice rubber stamps at $5. This is what I am talking about when I complain that prices are too high. Unless these were pretty high end stamps, I think 5 bucks is too much to pay at the thrift store or an estate sale. I went to a garage sale this weekend and a lady had old stamps for 3-5 dollars each wood block. I told her (gently) that the reason they had not sold was they were priced too high. She said she was selling them for her sister and asked what I thought they were worth. I said .50 to a dollar each is what I would pay, or put a big bag of them out for 5 bucks. She said at that prices she'd rather donate them. Ummmmm ok.

It's gotten to the point where people are asking for eBay level prices at their garage and estate sales. That's not how it works.
Sure, yes, you might be able to get a higher price online. But you'll have to put in a lot more work to reach that bigger market - price checking, photography, writing and uploading a listing, fees for listing and final value, packaging supplies, actually boxing stuff up, travel to the post office, and hoping you don't end up having to deal with a return. In short, retail level service. Vs. "How much?", "X dollars", "Here you go". And it's gone.

Yes, the Ebay Garage sale mentality. That's what I call it. So many people have gotten into their thoughts that pricing for garage sales should be the same as Ebay. The new garage sale culture. Not tearing it down. Just the evolution of selling. Even if you read garage sale articles they tell you to look at what things are going for at ebay and price accordingly. I even have one thrift store the manager stands there with her phone and prices things for what they are going for on Ebay.

Thrift stores I can *somewhat* understand falling into the eBay sale mentality - they've got significant overhead and do offer retail level service. Still, no physical location is going to reach the same size of customer base as the whole internet (unless they're a hybrid shop, and good gravy that's an inventory management/logistics nightmare if I've ever seen one.) But your local household that's just laid out their castoffs on the driveway for a six hour sale? No excuse.

I made it to the thrift store (creative reuse store)! It was more of mixed media type of store and it was on the small side. It also had smells of all kinds of laquers and paints. I got a bit of a headache towards the end of my shopping. It was kind of fun rummaging through the wood stamps and recognizing the year they were popular or when I had first seen them. I bought navy 8.5x11 cardstock, 5 for $1.00. A Reminisce stamp for 0.75, Studio G Stamp for 0.25, 2 sets of Thickers for $1.00 each, 3 tiny heart stamps 3 for 0.25, small wood sentiment stamp for 0.25, a Versamark watermark pad for 0.75, and an Autumn Leaves stamp set with 30 images for $1.00! It's called stamped and coded by Katie Pertiet. Each stamp has a word and a "bar code" around the word. I don't love the look, but it's easy enough to cut around the bar code for the words. I didn't pay attention to the watermark pad. I've never used one! I figured it was black ink. I wouldn't mind going back again if we are in the area. I wouldn't go out of my way again either.
ETA: I thought it was cute they put my stuff in a donated gift sack that has penguins. I could easily re-gift it this year for Christmas!

At Goodwill yesterday, I found a Basic Grey "Wassail" collection pack and a Scenic Route "Roxbury" collection pack. Both were priced unusually high for GW in my opinion, but it's not like these are readily available, so I bought them anyway.

i went to my first estate sale this morning, they are a rare bird in my area. Let’s just say my purchases will stay in the trunk of my car until Monday when DH is at work. I couldn’t resist all the antique school books, journals filled with beautiful handwriting and cabinet cards for only $2 each. I also stopped at a garage sale and scored boxes of old fabric, lace, doilies, books and figurines for $1/box!

Your SO should appreciate that you're being thrifty with your finances instead of buying a lot of new stuff, as long as you have space for it of course. Haven't found much in the crafting vein this last month. So it goes; sometimes feast, sometimes famine. The local shops had a good number of crafty things on offer, but they were mostly really expensive (plastic ephemera 'plates', with little phrases on them, stamps) or just not something I'd use (floral arrangements, kids craft supplies). Brought home some more horses, toys, a few Pokémon figures, Schleich, and a copy of Zombie Dice. Passed on some poor quality planners, construction paper, and scrap albums.

How much did that cost? What are you going to do with it?) blah blah blah....sometimes it is just nice to move it quietly into the house and let it sit there, and get no crap for it. Fortunately I did not marry someone like my stepdad and DH just rolls with it.

That's not a significant other, that's a judge and jailer. Makes me glad I'm never getting married, because I can't imagine being stuck with someone like that. If I feel like spending my discretionary funds on toys, games and art supplies, then you can be damn sure that's exactly what I'm going to do.

Well, I may have had something of an unfair advantage as I'm not interested in relationships; love/lust does some pretty wonky things to human brains, dopamine especially. But it's indeed never too late! Nobody's going to be your 24/7 advocate but you. And you are ultimately the only person that has to exist with you, forever, for your whole life.

My husband doesn’t care or judge what I buy, and I don’t judge or care what he buys. We both have our own personal accounts and I know when he buys stuff and vice versa, but neither of us judge. Marriage isn’t for everyone, but it doesn’t have to be a situation like you are describing. Regarding thrift store finds, I haven’t been shopping lately, but last time I went I found a really nice craft box like this for 1.99, I really like it. www.overstock.com/Crafts-Sewing/IRIS-Greeting-Card-Storage-and-Craft-Keeper/17119364/product.html?I am still debating what to use it for, either my Ali kits or 6x8 papers or scraps.

Glad you found someone who treats you like a human being and vice versa. I'd maybe try kits in that box. Might be a bit small for scraps; personally I prefer a simple duo-tang (those paper binders with the metal tabs, that take three hole punched inserts) for my leftover cardstock. I have them sorted by colour family in standard page protectors with a piece of 8.5x11" sheet as a backer, and it works pretty well.

Nothing exciting but I got some more binders for my recent organization of flat embellishments. I was happy to get a heavy duty business binder for $1.00. It had heavy weight page protectors and about 10 sheets of heavy weight cardstock. A few of the protectors had tabs. I think I'll reuse them for a recipe binder.
I also got a Franklin Quest binder for $1.00, but it doesn't have the usual 6 or 7 (?) holes, just three. The Silhouette store has binder divider cut files that I think will work. I will have to pay a bit more because I have the SCAL program on my Cricut that takes SVG files. I thought it would be fun to make my own planner. Thanks to joblackford I got an amazing deal on icon images not long ago. I've had sticker paper forever I can use. Too many of the premade icons never fit my lifestyle!
I'm just not sure about buying filler paper for planning. Any suggestions?
Not a thrift store, but Hobby Lobby had 2 sets of planner stamps on clearance for $2.49. I am covered on every possible icon I could put in a planner!

I'm just not sure about buying filler paper for planning. Any suggestions? If your planner is the standard 5.5x8.5" size, you can cut down pretty much any letter size paper you happen to have in half to make your own sheets. Personally I prefer blank ones or to print my own for checklists and the like. What paper you pick will depend on what you intend to put on it - something like a junk journal or mixed media journal will need sturdier paper than a simple organizer or diary style entries. Those are some great deals on planners no matter what you end up putting in them. n_n

I think it is the standard size. It would be more for recording events after they happened. A journal with simple embellishing. That's why I was wanting some monthly and weekly inserts.
ETA: I don't want to be that creative with making every page. Some undated monthly and weekly pages would be okay too.

I store ink pads, stickles, acrylic blocks, and punched out shapes. You could get some plastic organizers from Dollar Tree like this
I have the long skinny ones in the photo. They are the perfect size for storing spices. Just to give you an idea of their width.
