So I really enjoy reddit's ThriftStoreHauls. For the uninitiated, it's all sorts of neat stuff people have picked up second hand - usually clothes, housewares, video games and the like. Once in a blue moon there's crafty goodness. I get most of my own craft supplies this way; affordable and 'new to you' goods means less landfill and it's just plain fun looking for the next buried treasure. Surely I'm not the only one who scours garage sales, thrift shops and private sales? Would you be so kind as to show/tell me what you've gotten, recently or in the past? This was my haul for today. Total cost: 4.75$ Canadian. Thank You - Cardmaker's Dream - Scrappy Cat Flowers n' Phrases - Scrappy Cat Falling Flakes - Neat and Tangled Another Cardmaker sentiment word set (no branding) Warm Wishes Penguins - Hampton Art w/die* Ready, Set, Snow! - Simon Says Stamp w/ matching dies Scallop Flower - Daisy Bucket Designs Merry Christmas - Shimelle Forever in Time Sentiments Rubber Stamp Block (wooden - which I need to move to clingmount) Three unmarked stamps on foam - 'Hi', 'Cheers', 'A little something' And some random embelishments which will probably get passed down to my step-niblings. Also butting into this picture is an earlier find of Henckels scissors, which were filthy but cleaned up nice (2$). They still cut wonderfully! * Strangely the Warm Wishes Penguin die doesn't fit the coordinating stamps. ; it's squished horizontally. Ah well. At least it didn't cost me much!

That's a fantastic haul!!
Oh, and about the Hampton Arts penguin die & stamps set.... Yeah, their first run didn't fit. I bought them on sale at Michael's a couple years ago and had the same prob.
I contacted Hampton Arts and they sent me a new set that does all fit properly.
It can't hurt to contact them now and see if they can send you a stamp & die that works right. Worst they will say is no.

Great haul!
I have given some scrap stuff to the thrift stores, but since it's never been anything I'd want back, I've never actually shopped for scrap stuff there!
We have an LSS that does a "garage sale" a couple of times a year. While I am too lazy to participate as a vendor (plus, I don't purge a lot. I only give away things I truly don't consider usable), I think most local scrappers would send their supplies to that rather than the thrift. I've never shopped it either because it starts at 10am on the friday and I'm always at work!

I found an amazing desk at value village for $20. It's like Rubbermaid made a desk. It sturdy its large. Kinda like a drafting table but no slant to the work surface.
It sure is causing a lot of reorganization and moving furniture around to accommodate it. But it will be totally worth it

The penguins aren't too terrible to cut by hand, and they are otherwise quite nice.

That's a crazy price for a Cricut Explore! Wow, I don't much like Cricut products because of the tied buying / cartridge thing but heck even I'd snap that up so fast at 15$. What a steal! And paper; I have such a hard time resisting the urge to buy every stack that I see. I think I've seen a few craft type hauls on Reddit - the one that comes to mind the easiest was a huuuge lot of PrismaColor and ProMarkers. You're right though, it's not a popular thrift post topic. There's always tons of LeCruset, and Vans, and designer purses, jeans, art, antique furniture and the like. Which is cool, I don't mind any of those things but they're not what I look for. What comes home is usually along the lines of organization items, knitting/sewing stuff, craft things, paper stock, cardboard, and recently Schlich animals and Playmobil for my step-niblings. They also get any craft products that aren't my cuppa tea - pipecleaners, stickers, googley eyes, beads, pompoms, etc. By the time Christmas and birthdays roll around there's usually a big box of goodies waiting for them. Guess we're pretty lucky where we live since it's rare I don't come home with *something*. Video games and collector stuff is heavily picked locally but it doesn't seem like too many folks go after the arts and crafts type things.

Wow you did really great. I never think about garage sales having craft things but why not? That’s all good stuff.
i got a pedrini brand spiralizer for $5. at an antique plus store once and it works. I guess I should get crackin and get out more.

Do warehouse sales count? I went to two SEI sales last year because I could see they were done selling scrap stuff. I figured it was the last of their sales. They had already shut down their store front. I think all of that was around $40.00. It was a big stack of paper.
ETA: Just a second. I'm slow at adding photos.

I think store closing and warehouse sales are fair game, pretty much the retail version of a garage sale. Ooh that wreath is really pretty! I'd probably make things like that if only they weren't such dust magnets, alas. Had to search what the ZipEMate was but it looks like a pretty nice die cutting machine, score. I got both of mine (Spellbinders Wizard and original big red Sizzix) from thrift too. They're old but they still work just fine.

Wow, what a great haul. I never manage to find anything much at my local ones, I think the craft stuff gets picked over first before it gets to the floor. In all my years I have only got two stamps, a small lot (think 10 sheets)of older chatterbox and making memories papers and a few weeks ago I got an EK success punch. A friend of mine seems to get some good stuff and recently got a huge box of copics for $10. I find more stuff at garage sales and on marketplace these days, one of my LSS does a destash day and I always get good things from there.

The secret to finding stuff at thrift is to go often and go to lots of different neighbourhoods. Oh yes, I dream of finding Copics at thrift. Even though I have probably more Copics than any one person needs... that sweet, sweet premium marker goodness. I'd never say no to more. The closest thing I've gotten would be these darlings, last year: Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph set, circa 1980's or early 90's probably. The pamphlet is dated 1984. These are technical pens, the kind architects would use. 5.99$, +~6 hours of labour. Guessing the folks pricing stuff that day opened them, saw they were all gross and dried up, and figured nobody would buy them for much. These bad boys were put away wet and left to suffer, all but the orange one which was never used. They sat for a long, long time, as there's noticeable sun yellowing on one side of all of the pens. And so much dried ink, in every. single. part. The remaining six needed a full disassemble and repeated trips through the ultrasonic cleaner + lots of TLC with cotton buds and alcohol soaks before they could work again, but I managed to restore the whole set. The remaining ink is even still perfect, which I wasn't expecting. The little black rings are the keys for unbolting the nibs, in case anyone was wondering what on earth those are. I use the yellow (0.3mm) and brown (0.5mm) ones the most, the others are currently empty and clean. Smoothest pens I've ever used, just touch them to the paper and go. They make lines of extremely consistent thickness. One of these pens is ~40$ brand new, and Koh-I-Noor still produces these exact models! (if it ain't broke...?)

I usually find scrapping supplies at antique stores. Ooh, that's a good idea. I usually bypass most consignment and antique stores because they don't tend to have the kinds of things I like and be rather pricey, but maybe I should give 'em another shot.

Embri your haul is the best. Tons of oooh's from me. The Cricut Explore is no longer tied to cartridges. No proprietary except their cloud based software. Apparently they are working on offline software so if you ever see a Cricut Explore at a thrift store run out the door with it, lol. Girl, your paper piecing creations are already magnificent I can just imagine what they would be like with an e-cutter. I saw that Prismacolor pencil haul on Reddit. My mouth was dropped open. I could have cried and reached through my monitor when that one guy found a mint copy of Purple Rain the week Prince went to see the angels. I love that Reddit. papersilly a Cricut for 15! Oh girl that is the ultimate score. Pretty much all my supplies come from thrift stores now. I am Dollar Tree and Thrifting girl for my beautiful art supplies. No latest picture. I got the CTMH 12 acrylic block set with case for $2.00. This is not my listing but the quickest picture I found- www.ebay.com/itm/Close-to-My-Heart-Stamp-Block-and-Case-Total-of-12-blocks-/113663757715?oid=281551509639 Look at that price $105!!!! I paid $2 for mine! It was brand new too. Never used! I still keep looking at all those blocks with awe, lol. Not craft related but I got a seashell art Nouveau table for $12. When I looked it up late I found it at an auction house for over $700!!!! I love my table. I am always so grateful for everything donated. I donate a lot of stuff too. I rather donate than sell.

Yes, I do have some wonderful antique finds but don't have the photos right now. Over the past two days I have been thrift store shopping as I am out of town. Hubby is home with one of our girls, and I am with one of our other daughters helping her with some things. I have found some amazing thrift stores. I have bought things at 3 different stores and spent a shopping $10!!!!!! Everything is out in the car but I will try and get a picture later. Here is what $10 bought me: *(4) vintage patterns 3 of which are very unique that I have never seen anywhere before *hymnal with no music but all lyrics; really, really neat *(5) zippers *(3) small cups *divided plate for painting I LOVE a good thrift or antique store!

I get estate sale notifications, and always look for local estate sales for any crafting supplies. Not very many of them have this kind of stuff, but every once in a while I get lucky.
One sale I attended was the estate of a Creative Memories consultant... I actually got in line before the sale was open, for that one, lol! I spent probably 4 hours there, looking through EVERY bit of that stuff. I think the sale company kind of *knew* what it was and what it might be worth, but there was SO much stuff that they priced things quite cheap to get rid of it. I got 2 or three of the double punches (retired) for $5 each, unused sets of journaling markers (4 to a set), photo mats, and a couple small storage containers for $3-5 each, and I'm sure some other stuff that I can't remember. But my big score was a shoulder bag carryall tote-- it has a padded shoulder strap, can hold (2) 12x12 albums and papers, and has three compartments for tools. It's not sold any more, but the closest thing CM sells now sells for well over $50. I grabbed that one as soon as I saw it!
I sometimes check in the local Goodwill stores for crafting / scrapbooking stuff; I've found a couple good things, but usually they don't have much of anything, and the prices aren't that great.
There was a local 'scrapbook garage sale' I stumbled on last year, in an event hall... basically, these ladies rented the event hall, and sellers rented table space from them to sell their excess supplies. I bought SO many page kits for $1-2 each, loads of papers, a couple CTMH and SU! sets for $5 each, some tools... I can't even remember what all I bought. Basically I'm a sucker for a deal, and for tools.
(FYI, for any Peas in the Phoenix area, this year's sale is being held March 23rd, somewhere in downtown Mesa- I can post the info if anyone wants to go.)
ETA: I also remember randomly finding a garage sale a few years ago-- the person had been on the Bo Bunny design team, and she was selling all her extra papers and embellishments-- I don't scrap in the Bo Bunny 'style' so I didn't buy much paper, but if someone did, they could have SCORED.

The Cricut Explore is no longer tied to cartridges. No proprietary except their cloud based software. Apparently they are working on offline software so if you ever see a Cricut Explore at a thrift store run out the door with it, lol. Good to know; last I checked - admittedly, it was quite a few years ago - The carts could only be registered once or something and you couldn't use standard SVG files, which is a total deal breaker for me. I ever did get a plotter-cutter, I'd want to make my own shapes with impunity. Pretty much all my supplies come from thrift stores now. I am Dollar Tree and Thrifting girl for my beautiful art supplies. Same here. There are very few things I buy new these days, usually stuff I can't find second hand. Between thrifting, the dollar stores and AliExpress, 99% of my crafting needs are covered. No latest picture. I got the CTMH 12 acrylic block set with case for $2.00. *whistles* That is a sweet find, nice score! Once saw a set of Tim Holtz acrylic blocks at Value Village, but they wanted like 15.99$ for them which was 'yeah no, lol' from me. Probably less than they originally cost but not justifiable for me given I have a handful of acrylic blocks already and haven't felt the need for more. Tim's stuff is generally pretty awesome and all but it sucks when stuff gets marked up to near retail because of brand. Basically I'm a sucker for a deal, and for tools. That's not being a sucker, that's being smart! All the stuff you got sounds awesome. I've get to come across a mega-haul, but you find little bits and pieces here and there if you're patient and persistent enough. Looking forward to all the snow melting and hopefully being able to scour garage sales again, maybe I'll even find a craft sale like yours someday! Yes, I do have some wonderful antique finds but don't have the photos right now. No worries - pictures are optional (but loved.) I dunno what it is, but I really enjoy seeing what 'treasures' other people find, even if it's not something I'd want myself. Makes me happy that old things have found new appreciative owners I guess. Embri thanks for the link to the Reddit site, I've subscribed. You're most welcome! Always happy to meet another thrift enthusiast. That's so awesome that you have a dedicated craft thrift store nearby; I've never even heard of one. Seen a few consignment shops that specialized in baby clothes and toys, but never crafty stuff really. I would have been all over that fabric as a kid/teenager, as I was heavily into making my own stuffed animals, puppets, clothes for toys and other things like that.

I recently got an entire box of embossing powders (probably 30-35) at Goodwill for $1.99.
I LOVE Goodwill outlet for crafty things. I got most of the paper from a Webster's Pages Andrienne Looman (sp?) For .20 total - not per page. I've also gotten tons of other random paper and embellishments for .05-.10 but it is hit or miss at times.

We have a store called Who Gives a Scrap in town. They have tons of craft items there. People mostly donate their supplies or trade. I found ten of the nice thick paper holders (over 300 pieces of paper) Storage Studios now sells them for almost $9 each. The lady sold me ten of them for a buck a piece. I danced while putting them in my car.

Thrift stores are extremely hit or miss in my neighborhood. Craft supplies are more a unicorn.
Before the large thrift about ten miles away closed, they had a whole aisle of crafting stuff. I found many wood mounted stamps there for super cheap. I miss that place.

Thrift stores are extremely hit or miss in my neighborhood. Craft supplies are more a unicorn. Sorry to hear that; must be frustrating to live in a thrift desert, at least locally. Garage/boot/church sales any better? Miss the days of '90's / 2000's era garage sales when eBay and other online selling options were not so nearly widespread. There used to be a lot more variety out there, nowadays it's more convenient to just toss things on FB for a lot of folks. P'sure I've mentioned getting some of the old Creative Memories cutter/templates elsewhere, so here they are in picture form. Doesn't look too odd until I mention the blades most certainly did not come with the stencils! I got the ovals and circles together for 1.99 in August, and the red/blue/green blades + the embossing folder and corner rounder in November, for another 1.99. Was actually looking at buying some blades a few times in between, but luckily did not. Both of them were found in the stationary section, rather than the crafts section at VV. Always happier to find stuff there as they don't seem to mark it up as much as the craft stuff.

I love thrift store hauls and I love second-hand scrap shopping. I can't remember a time where I left with a huge haul, but I do pretty well for myself on individual finds.
The best find was a 3 ring binder full of silicon stamps for $6, it had a 9 pockets per page, all stuffed and like 15-20 pages. I also found a pair of Fiskars paper trimmers (the ones with the guide wires) for $4, they definitely are an improvement from the cheaper 12-inch paper trimmer.
I found a $3 bag of 8.5x11 paper just the other week, mostly colored cardstock and I'm more into patterned paper, but still, for a 3-inch stack of colored card stock, it was a steal. At the per/pound thrift store (Goodwill rejects) my boyfriend spotted a 24 scissor set of patterned scissors, they would have probably been a cumulative $3 but I wound up getting the wood holder to go with it which was probably $5.
For a yard sale hauls, I once found a big ziplock bag full of punches and a 1 inch 12x12 paper pocket stuffed with 12x12s and stickers. I think it was $6 and $3 for the punches and paper/embellies respectively.
I'm still waiting for my white whale of Creative Memories cutting cartridges. I found a box at a nearby creative reuse store, but when I opened it I found it was literally just the box. My heart broke. On the note of creative reuse stores, Peas check and see if your area has one, they are the best! I go to the one an hour away every year on my birthday and leave with an absurd amount of paper for less than $20.
