I haven’t been to a scrapbook convention in years due to the cost of admission, parking, and gas. Anyway, back then the Sizzix booth was very busy but then again not that many companies were selling dies. Now other companies have well designed dies and a variety of stamp/die sets. So instead of stepping up their game Sizzix decided to just try to bully their competitors out of business.

I don't blame those who don't want to pay the price of admission to shop at a convention. It took me several years before I was willing, and it was only AFTER I got a free pass to get in one that I decided it was worth it for me. That doesn't mean it's worth it for everyone. It's also more fun going with a friend who scrapbooks.
Obviously, I won't be spending any money at the Sizzix booth, although I am curious to see if they get more customers than I remember from past conventions.

Embri- I think you have the best thrift store. You have a gem. Never, ever share the name of it, lol. I am like you I need to find the best price and fret for three hours before I hit purchase button. I was at Hobby Lobby today and I saw my planner punch board I got at TM. HL had it retail for $40 freakin dollars. I hardly could believe it. I looked at the price three times. My DH & I were both in shock. I got mine for $8. I do love that so many crafters are oblivious to the lawsuits. It's like they do not have to be jaded or careful. Years ago I was at Michael's when they still carried the cartridges on the hooks. There were two ladies in the aisle with me. This one lady just starts going off about the lawsuits. She was trying to "educate" us ladies on what an evil company Cricut is. I can tell you I was getting furious with her. I am such a laid back girl. The reason I was getting furious with her is because a lot of you know I was tightly wrapped up in those lawsuits and got dragged into it by Cricut itself. I really didn't need to go in a store and listen to some biddy tell me things that I am going through. I looked over at the other lady. She was holding From My Kitchen. She just looked so sad. Biddy left the aisle in all her righteousness glory. This lady sadly put the cartridge back on the hook. I took it off the hook and handed it to her. I told her to never ever let anyone ruin her love of being creative. I told her that was one of my favorite cartridges. Started telling her all the things I love to make with it. I also told her that lady was spouting off Internet gossip and not facts. I knew the facts from all sides. Told her never to trust an Internet gossip they are as bad as trolls. She bought the cartridge. I do hope it gave her years of joy. I love that we do share Industry gossip here. A lot of us do have the facts. I think we try to be healthy about speculation. Even there are days I wish I didn't open that thread, lol. The only person I blame for that is me. I don't have to open the thread. My raccoon nature can't help itself, ROFL. I am glad to know these things so I can make good choices. I love you girls for always sharing breaking news. Trust me I am really mad at Sizzix for the way they are handling this lawsuit. I am really concerned about this new owner. Yes, I can say I would be at the Sizzix booth looking at my dies. I have an obsession with dies now so I would have been at all the booths, lol. I did buy a Sizzix die last night. I got the Sizzix Thinlit Whimsy & Delight because it finally fell at my price range. I keep a list of dies I "need" to have and wait till they fall in my frugalista price range. You can tell I never have been to a scrapbook convention because I didn't know there was an expensive fee to enter. I thought it would be like $5 or something, lol. How much is it?

You can tell I never have been to a scrapbook convention because I didn't know there was an expensive fee to enter. I thought it would be like $5 or something, lol. How much is it? It really depends on the show - some conventions it's as little as a couple of dollars, some it can be a major expense. Not quite ComicCon prices, but significant. Usually the bigger the show, the more expensive it is. Entry fee might include some participatory events like crops or workshops, but usually those are extra. I am like you I need to find the best price and fret for three hours before I hit purchase button. I'm not the only one?! Oh thank goodness. Sometimes i think I'm being overly silly - I don't have anywhere near that trouble in real life - much to the relief of those standing in line behind me, I'm sure - but when it comes to online purchases it takes me forever to actually hit that 'Buy' button, especially if it's more than 2-3$. I told her to never ever let anyone ruin her love of being creative. Good advice - I'm glad you helped out the other lady. As much as I don't care for Sizzix's behaviour, I'd never begrudge anyone a product they truly loved. It's not like you can get identical things from a different manufacturer most of the time. Company behaviour is something worth considering, but it doesn't have to be the ultimate deciding factor.

You can tell I never have been to a scrapbook convention because I didn't know there was an expensive fee to enter. I thought it would be like $5 or something, lol. How much is it? The one I just attended was $8 for a one day pass. This gave you access to the vendor area. Classes and crops were additional fees. The 3-day crop was $185 and classes were $20 to $50. So, depending on what you did, it could be expensive. My friend and I just went for a day of shopping. The $8 admission fee was a bargain compared to what we spent! ETA: Parking was $5.

Well $8 is not bad at all. I understand the crop prices too. I thought I would get a listing of E3 game convention prices. Like $250-$1000, lol. I would pay $8 for an entrance fee. I think that is fair. I understand parking would be the biggest expense and would factor in if the convention is worth going too. I can't drive due to medical so I always tend to forget about parking fees. Non scrap conventions I have gone to the bus dropped me off near the center. Embri I do the same thing! I fret over $3. My DH gets so mad at me. He's like "IT'S $3.00 BUY IT!" I am like "Oh, I don't know!" ROFL! I fretted over the Sizzix die set I bought the other night. It was around $6. I fretted about it for two hours before I hit send. I was like "Sizzix is doing all this now. Maybe I should, Maybe I shouldn't! It is $6. I could buy something else." It was horrible, lol. What is sad I actually did look up the die to see if it fell in my price range. It did but I still fretted, lol. When I told my husband he rolled his eyes at me and laughed. I do admit the Sizzix debacle is making me reconsider purchases. I am so mad at Sizzix. Thanks alot Sizzix. Art and creativity is supposed to be fun and not agonizing. The I told him I found the most beautiful Spellbinder's Perfume bottle set. Spellbinders retired that set. I found the knock off version for $4. My DH was like "Did you get it?" I told him no because I bought the Sizzix set. He was like "Go get that set!" "Do you need me to hold your hand and hit the buy button." LOL. My deal is that I had to grow up as a street teen when my Dad died. I have trouble spending money on non-essentials. It's so sad I am way past being a teen now.

While I am not willing to buy from Sizzix due to their lawsuits, that does not mean I expect everyone to think the same. I am not upset with those who choose to continue to buy from Sizzix.
Each of us has a right to spend our money how, where, and when we want, and that includes buying from Sizzix. I think we all like having the freedom to make our own choices.
The increased choices that are available to me are the reason why I love going to conventions, despite the entrance fee.
The convention I plan to attend has definitely gone up in price. Last year it cost me $8 with a coupon. This year it will be $10 with the coupon. It's still worth it as far as I am concerned.
Sizzix seems determined to limit our choices by destroying their competition with the lawsuits. If I buy their products, I feel that I am giving them financial support to limit my future choices. Others may see it differently. Whatever the case, don't let anyone guilt you into making you feel you can't buy from them.
In all honesty, since I have bought very little from Sizzix prior to the lawsuits, it's not exactly a huge hardship for me to boycott them now. If it were a company which I truly loved that was suing their competitors, I might have a much harder time refusing to buy their products.
Depending on what happens with the lawsuits, there may be fewer companies and products at future confentions. I hope not, but with that in the back of my mind, I intend to do some serious shopping at this one. I had been debating on going before hearing about the lawsuits. Now I'm not willing to miss it.
