Glad to hear you are taking the opportunity. Sounds like it will be ideal for your dd to join you from Ireland, and if need be the flight back to WV is not prohibitive. How many hours does that flight take? Adventure awaits!

Fantastic news. It's such a lovely country and close to so many other countries. I had a friend that took a 2 year assignment (private sector). He extended it over and over. Eventually he retired and stayed there.

Congratulations, how exciting! My DD has a 5 week placement in Denmark later this year and she's trying to work out where to travel to before/during/after. Belgium is top of her list.

I’m excited for you and glad you took the assignment. I know if we had a chance to live in Europe again we’d go in a heartbeat, and I know our kids would support it. Good luck and have fun!

Great update. Hope you have a wonderful time.
The travel connections in Europe are great. You will be able to travel far and wide by train if you don't fancy driving. You can even travel along the 70km Belgium coast line on the coast tram. Looking forward to hearing all about your adventures and impressions of your time on this side of the pond.

You forgot Belgium's other claim to fame, their beer. Isn't there even a beer museum in Brussels? Oh, you have to visit a Christmas market, the smells, the lights, the atmosphere.

I never saw your original post until today.. SO glad you are going.. 50s is NOT retirement age.. LOL.. go have fun.. Glad the kids are on-board. Mine are the same age and would be pushing us to go.
My son is in the AF in Germany.. I am so glad he did it.. I wanted him to be able to explore Europe.. but has he?? That is a big fat NO. I just roll my eyes. He's been to Paris because I flew over there and we went.. otherwise he is such a homebody... uggggg... anyways.. congrats!!
And if DH needs an assistant I can give you my son's name.. LOL... He is actually thinking about re-certificating or is it reclassification? I don't know.. If he does it he will stay in but if there isn't a job that is available that he could put in for then he may go ahead and leave.. He's been in for over six years now. I hope he stays in!! He won't know until August. Right now the only 2 positions open is a paralegal or EMT.. He's not sure about either one of those. Sounds like there will be a flight attendant position (which I can't see him doing at all..lol) but then I said, but HEY maybe that would get you into flying on Air Force One... He told me the paperwork alone would kill him.. LOL..How he is qualified for these jobs I have no idea.. He is a Crew Chief.
ANYWAYS.. Have fun!!

We do quite a bit when we move to a new place, but a lot of our time is just spent living our life. You need to do all the same errands, cleaning, lawn mowing, snow shoveling no matter where you live! Also, if he’s young, there wasn’t a lot of extra money in those days. If he’s single, MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) usually has groups that will go to different places. He could meet some people that way, too!
