OMFG. That room full of dead things! (Dead things, Mikey, dead things!) Ish. I hate that house. Too dark, too formal, not cozy. It would make me cry. I'd take the pool tho. Edited to add, in my neighborhood? Any house and a about 20 others. What I would do if I had that $ for a house is put a cozy cute house on a billion acres and get a giant barn and turn it into a scraproom, Magic the Gathering game room.

You can buy a really nice house with acreage in my area for that. This one’s across the river from me, nothing in that specific price range is on the market in my immediate area right now but there are homes like this near me. link

Probably not as much as you'd think. I live in southern california And there are things I love about this house, but who needs 10,000 square feet?!?! It seems like it would feel like living in a mausoleum even though some of the rooms were very warm and inviting. But that pool....and that property.....I guess I could live with a giant house if I had to. And if I had someone to help me clean it.

10 bathrooms seems excessive even for that size house. Now is just me or is the kitchen ridiculously small compared to the rest of the rooms.

It seems really small for a house of that size. The entire house seemed very dungeon like. Far too dark and dreary. And why does a 5 bedroom house need 10 bathrooms. That just doesn't make sense. And the dead animal room - who could live with something like that.

You'd have to head west a bit to find prices that high and because it's on the lake in Lake Geneva were shoreline is expensive. Here's one in the price range. Lakeside in Lake Genevaor course there is old mansions from way back and the prices can go higher there, quick search of most expensive on lake finds... a mere $13,900,000 for 13 bedroom 16 bath cozy cottage
^^^that one is a newer mansion

This 5 bedroom house with tennis court and pool. For $1M more a beachfront apartment here. Outside of Auckland, your money goes a lot further. Just north of the city, you can get a 6ha lifestyle property for that price. And here's what's described as a ' private ocean estate' including 9275m2 of land for a cool $3.9M, just outside Whangarei.

a nice house in a nice neighborhood. there are $3 million dollar homes a couple blocks away. there is a small cottage being advertised for $900,000 that does not have street access...you have to walk up a set of stairs. not a lot of land with $3 million.. the bottom of the market is about $1 million. I'll take this one.. www.redfin.com/CA/San-Francisco/2872-Pine-St-94115/home/589466

Not a mansion like that, but you can get a nice 3,000-4,000 square foot home in La Jolla (San Diego area) close to the ocean. That would be my dream location.

It is crazy to me (in Texas where land is comparably cheap for the US) how small those are for the price. But the views for the first, third and forth properties are unbelievable!

This is what you'd get around here in the UK The house in the OP is grand but too opulent and austere to be my comfortable home.

Yes, land is expensive in Auckland and construction costs here are also very high - small market a long way away from anywhere! The median house price here last month was NZ$830,000 (USD$551,500).

You get some kind of mansion right on Lake Michigan with your own private beach.
