Tired of the patronizing she does. It’s okay if she comments, but quite frankly, more than once, she’s hand slapped others for doing the same as she does. I take umbrage to her comments that AOC was a problem/trouble from the start. That kind of narrative reeks of domestic abuse and other abuses of women—“well if she didn’t dress that way, maybe she wouldn’t have been raped”, “well, if she wouldn’t have stood up and spoke up about it, then this wouldn’t have happened”, or “she’s a bitch” (when a man doing the same would be called assertive or knows what he wants). The Democrats don’t need to in fight. But what trump said and now other GOP and Fox idiots are echoing is a dangerous slope for any women to be on. Careful your “Gia” side is coming out. Good old Gia, whenever she smelled blood in the water she showed up to a thread just to attack. I’m sure she would be thrilled if she knew there was someone following in her footsteps. As to AOC, sorry to disappoint, but I would feel the same way if it was a man. People can criticize a person solely on their words and actions and it has nothing to do with their sex, the color of their skin, their sexual orientation or their religious beliefs.
You know what @fred—FUCK YOU. My comment on what you’ve done and are still doing here wasn’t “smelling blood” nor attacking you, yet again you show that you’ll do exactly what you get upset with what you say others are doing. I wasn’t being nasty to you, nor was I attacking you or calling you names—I pointed out your hand slappy-ness. You sound like and are doing exactly what trump sounds like and does—shifting his bad behavior onto the person who points it out—just like you did when you made the comment that “AOC was trouble from the start” instead of putting the blame where it solely lies—with trump, which is what I commented on from the get go.

NO money for soap, toothbrushes, blankets and clean clothes, or even showers!! Six top-level executives at a nonprofit group that houses thousands of migrant children for the U.S. government made at least $1 million in 2017, according to tax filings obtained by The Washington Post.Juan Sanchez, founder of the Texas-based Southwest Key Programs, earned $3.6 million in total compensation that year. Five other employees earned seven-figure salaries, with the group’s chief financial officer earning more than $2.4 million.Sanchez left Southwest Key earlier this year amid backlash to his high income, the Post reported. An employee told the newspaper that three of the other officials making at least $1 million have also left. Southwest Key reportedly shelters about 4,500 minors in Texas, California and Arizona, a little more than a third of the 12,500 children and teens held by the Department of Health and Human Services. The nonprofit has an annual contract of about $460 million, and it has received more than $1 billion since 2014, according to federal records analyzed by the Post. Joella Brooks, who as chief operating officer made more than $1.2 million in 2017 and is now interim chief executive, told the Post that the life insurance and retirement policy Sanchez credited for his high salary have been abandoned. Brooks said in a statement to the outlet that she “and other leaders who participated in the program separately agreed to return substantial portions of the life insurance benefits.” She added the nonprofit was “moving in a new direction” with a new chief financial officer and that she has asked top officials to reevaluate compensation. “These retirement and life insurance programs were designed and implemented by executives no longer with us,” Brooks told the Post. “Those who participated in this program and have left are required to return a significant amount of the retirement portion of the funds that are not vested. We’ve recovered hundreds of thousands of dollars so far.” * thehill.com/policy/finance/453366-six-officials-at-nonprofit-housing-migrant-children-made-at-least-1-million-in

They have ads running ALL the time for workers at their facility. Part of me is glad they seem to have a difficult time hiring and retaining workers in a children’s prison, and part of me worries that the kids there are not getting enough care and attention.

Let me be clear, IF they were to properly care for & caringly supervise that many minors the $775 might be close to valid. Formula, diapers, childcare of the appropriate child/adult ratio ( actual caring child care ) health issues, food, clothing, etc etc etc. maybe even on the lower side. But $775/person/night for a foil blanket on a concrete floor in a cage without proper adult supervision & care is NOT worth $775/night It’s sinful

CNN is doing some good work right now. I am glad they are calling Trump a racist, and not shying away from using the word. And I am glad they are publishing articles that call out The Donald’s lies.

My unrequested 2 cents... I don’t know, I think tone is really important in our interactions with one another. If some people feel one of us is being a bit patronizing, especially as this isn’t the first time, I think it’s a good idea to clear the air. If this was a thread topic I think we’d all encourage the pea to openly communicate with the person they were having the issue with and resolve the issue, not to ignore it. If someone felt my response to them was bitchy*, for example, I’d want to know so I could fix it in the future rather than have it sour any future interaction with them. I love our political discussions and learn so much from participating and often just reading what y’all have to say. @fred is a huge part of that. As stated she provides a ton of information, sources, discussion and food for thought. I don’t think pointing out that her tone can occasionally come across as patronizing takes away from that. And it doesn’t have to derail the conversation or create an ‘us’ versus ‘them’ infighting mentality. When it was first obvious a few people took unintended offense, I think simply acknowledging that and explaining what she meant without being defensive and “read it again (you idiot)” would have gone a long way. Those that felt she was patronizing, rude, whatever would have liked her post and moved on and we’d be back to the topic at hand. And hopefully she’d recognize that she can unintentionally come across that way and consider that in her responses. I’ve written and rewritten these words so many times because I don’t want to offend anyone, so if I do I’m sorry. I just don’t think that sweeping this under the rug does anyone any good. * I use that one as it’s the most likely. Or bitter. That doesn’t help the discussion and sometimes it takes me a while to recognize all of my posts are bitter, sarcastic replies and adding nothing to the discussion ETA tl;dr What she said. This wasn’t here when I started my epic post, could have saved me some time! If something is unclear do you ask questions or do you assume? Look at the original two posts responding to mine that started this. The first one start with “Tha fuck” and the second one was”you are being patronizing “. Neither asked for clarification before becoming pissy because they assumed. And because they assumed wrong it’s all my fault when in fact they could of asked for clarification and chose not to. Maybe if there were more questions asked and less assumptions made there would be less discord in the world. Sorry I took so long to reply, I must have missed the notification and am just getting back to this thread! IMO, they were responding to your tone as well as your words and I will admit, I did a double take at several of your responses. Their tone of response was in line with your initial post, which to some of us started off sounding judgmental. Yes, they could have assumed you didn’t mean it like that and ask for clarification of what you meant and your tone. My assumption was they didn’t because this isn’t the first time but that could just be me. You’re exactly right, of course, about more questions and less assumptions making less discord in the world. I think the same can be true of paying attention to how we speak to people and not just what we say; and note that how we intend to come across is not always how we actually come across. I have been told my dryly delivered sarcasm can come across as bitter and condescending. Ouch. Yet, I wouldn’t have known if no one had pointed it out. So y’all please feel free to call me on my shit too Back to our regularly scheduled dumpster fire of this presidency. I haven’t checked out the news in about 15 minutes I’m sure some bad shit just went down.

Only 4 Republicans [Rep. Hurd (TX) • Rep. Upton (MI) • Rep. Fitzpatrick (PA) • Rep. Brooks (IN)] and Amash voted to condemn Trump’s racist attack against our Congresswomen. FOUR out of 197. We know what torch they chose.

OMG, that man is freakin’ brilliant. I didn’t know the connection between the “sir” stories and the lying, but it doesn’t surprise me. It does bug the living sh*t out of me when he says things like that, though. He refers to everyone ... everyone ... cabinet members, generals, senators, heads of state ... by their first names, yet expects everyone to call him Mr. Trump or Mr. President. The “sir” stories always seemed to be more of the same social self-aggrandizing. But now I’ll take a little pleasure in knowing it just means he’s lying. Again.

He’s been doing this for over two years now. It’s a public service IMO.

Ugh, I can’t find the tweet now and it won’t load for me either - but it was a retweet of a Reuters poll that showed that Republican approval ratings for Trump actually rose by 5 points after his weekend tweetstorm. Chris Jackson’s comment was that we need to stop trying to win those folks over - they are a lost cause. Related: has Tapatalk stopped previewing tweets for anyone else? I’m very annoyed by this .

WENT UP? I have no words for that. No nice ones anyway. I agree. And anyone who is saying right now that the Democrats need to work hard or lose their vote wasn’t going to vote for them anyway. We already KNOW that Trump is a terrible leader who is tearing our country apart and ruining our standing with our allies. So quit complaining about what you’re afraid a certain candidate might do. Or even what they have done because no one comes close to his shit show of an administration.

Reminder that good presidents are possible - if we demand them. Not if we mollycoddle narcissists for the sake of tax cuts, judges who favor the wealthy, and pwning the libs.

Despite initial queasiness from some aides at the overtly racist implications of Trump's attacks on the minority lawmakers, most now say the President's tactic of tying the liberal "squad" to the larger Democratic Party is a winning tactic. Many have come to his defense, declaring him correct in his view that critics of the United States should move somewhere else. And who campaigned on our country being a mess, over and over again.......... and use MAGA..... make America great again, because he thought it wasn't so great and told us that for months! As he was leaving the WH this afternoon a reported asked him if everyone should leave............. he again said if they don't like it they should leave... But we aren't allowed to say anything?! That is our system! link
