s/o of laundry

I do one load a day. Lights/whites, darks, underwear/socks, sports/workout wear. Towels and sheets get washed weekly on Saturdays. Other stuff as needed. There’s enough on that rotation to have a full load each day, no one ever runs out of anything, and it feels way less burdensome to me than doing a bunch of loads in one day and having to put a bunch of stuff away at once.

ETA: I went to one load a day when I started working from home. It's easy to squeeze in during the day without taking away from work responsibilities, so I do. This gives me more of my life back on the weekends, rather than having a bunch of work to do around the house, like when I was in an office. 

Something is washed more or less daily. I have the ability to set the load size on my machine, and I prefer my dark clothes washed with a different detergent than my delicates and other colors. So there's usually at least one small load on a given night, holding 2-3 days' worth of whatever.

I don’t have a set day or time. I generally do a load or two a week. Dh will do the same. No more kids at home.

I have a friend with a family of five. They do laundry every other week...everything on one day. They have enough clothes for 14 days. Her husband does all the wash and that was his requirement for taking it over. She will ocassionly do a load of her own stuff if something she really wants to wear is dirty.

We do our own laundry in my home. Either of us will do towels or sheets depending on who wants them done now. DH typically does laundry on the weekend and I do mine in the morning before work (I'm up 2.5 hours before I have to leave for work). I do separate my laundry so it takes me at least 2-3 days to get all my laundry done. I'm bad about putting it away though. I will pull stuff out of the clean laundry basket for a week, easily.

I feel like I do laundry every single day. Most days I do it. I don't like to devote my entire day off to just laundry, so I try to do a load in the early morning, and one as soon as I get home every day.

We also have hampers and the laundry in the basement. Very inconvenient to carry, but no worries in case there is a leak. It also means I can wash laundry late at night and very early in the morning and it doesn't disturb anyone's sleep.

The teens are responsible for all their own laundry.


I wash younger kids' school uniforms once a week, and they are guaranteed to be clean by the first school morning of the week.

Regular clothes? They'll get done when they get done. There will always be clean clothes to wear, but not a specific outfit (unless requested).

We do one load a day, as needed. Sheets, towels, whites/lights and darks. I did wash the sheets AND a load of towels yesterday, because the towel pile was getting big. There are just two of us, so we can go a few days with no laundry being done.

Most days I do a load of whatever I have the most of, then I finish it all every Wednesday night.

My turnaround is 2-3 days but I hate doing it all at once. As soon as I have enough for a load, I wash it. It is just dh and me.

When the hamper gets full or if I want to wear something that is dirty, except sheets every Sunday.

It’s just me and DH, so I only do laundry on Monday. If I have more than just clothes, I may get it done that day, or wait till the next. We have enough towels that I don’t do a load every week.

When the baskets get full. So I do laundry more often in winter as they fill up faster with long pants and shirts than shorts. Though in winter, we can get a bit more wear out of things before they go into the dirty clothes.

I recently went out of town for a week doing all the laundry just before I left. When I got back, I immediately did the laundry and put away 11 pairs of DH's socks. He had done a lot of grass mowing while I was gone and went through all his socks. I asked what he had planned to do if I was delayed. "Walmart sells socks," he replied. We have found something that will overcome his frugality, the need to do laundry. He hasn't washed anything in 28 years.

It’s just DH and I so we don’t create much laundry. If we do a load about every other day it will stay caught up. Saving all the laundry for one day is a trigger issue for me, as my parents did theirs and my siblings (I did my own) all in one day, and then it would stay piled up (and fought about) on the couch and top of dryer until the next week. I prefer that clothes are hung and folded as they come out of the wash and immediately put away. They don’t even make it into laundry baskets to be carried.

My DH’s work clothes (scrubs/undershirt/underwear) all go in one load and are done over the weekend. So no worries about running out there. Everything else gets washed as the specific load types are full. We have a ventilated drawer unit in our master closet that we sort things into as we take them off so it’s super easy to see when that is. Most clothing items will only stay dirty for a week, max. The constant exception to this is white clothing we never bleach/wash in hot. We own very little of that so things could sit there for months and we barely have enough to wash a small load. It consists mostly of a couple summer shirts of mine and some of DH’s t-shirts.

Load a day now that everyone is home for the summer. Just dh's and my own clothes, our sheets and towels for everyone. If I don't do towels they will leave them all over...and I'll have to complain so I just do it.

I do 2-4 loads a day. I have 4 kids ages 1, 3, 6, and 8. It never ends.....
