2 of his 3 wives were immigrants. 4 of his 5 known children are first generation born native Americans. His in-laws are here from the result of chain migration! Yeah but he’s “wealthy”, so it doesn’t matter that all those people were immigrants. And money trumps everything, dontchaknow.

I'm conservative and I think he should not have said that. That’s great. So what are you doing about it, besides posting anonymously on a scrapbook message board? Are you speaking out against it BOLDLY....LOUDLY? Because it doesn’t make a lick of difference if you don’t.

Thank you, Elaine (can't tag on my tablet) for starting this thread. And thank you to all the well-spoken, articulate respondents who have written posts that leave no doubt as to the utter corruption of this racist, hate-driven administration. I attempted to respond, but you all have done it so much better than I. The driveway press conference and Kelleyanne Conway's response has made it clear to me that as Lucy says, "We are doomed." I think for me, hearing her question Andrew Feinberg's "ethnicity" has made today the lowest point of Trump's reign. I am horrified/traumatised to think of what might be coming, but I will do my best to continue to call out the errors of this administration, even though I am surrounded by rural types here in Arkansas who think he is ok. It is a daily battle for me, a native New Yorker, but I promise you, I will NOT falter!!! Good for you purplebee. I can't imagine still living in Arkansas; I think my head would have exploded by now. Hang tough! I will say that I do like living here - I am in a relatively rural part of NW AR, and love being in the country but still close enough to Fayetteville and Bentonville for culture, restaurants, arts, etc. I have blocked the staunch Trump supporters on my FB feed, and try to reason with those in my social circle who still seem to like him. It is an uphill climb, however. I encounter many who are apathetic - other than the occasional "oh that Trump is something" comment, they really are not at all informed about the current political situation. These people scare me the most.

I'm conservative and I think he should not have said that. I notice it's your first post. Are you a new member or did you feel that you couldn't post under you usual identity and you needed a new username? Either way, do you disagree with what he actually said or just that he shouldn't have said it out loud?

Well I made the mistake of going over to my representative’s Facebook page. She was one of the four republicans who voted with the democrats today. I have never been so disgusted and disheartened by the words of my fellow Hoosiers, who are writing some of the most hateful and divisive things I have read in a long time for her bucking the party line. I expect aggravated venting like we see here on anonymous boards, but to see people in my community spew such personal hatred under their name and next to phtotos of themselves and their loved ones makes me ill. I may not agree with the majority of my neighbors on political issues, but I honestly thought we were all better people than that 😔. If this is really where our country is headed, it makes me want to leave.

I disagree with what he said. Telling people to leave the country is not how you come together and exchange ideas. If he disagrees with them, that was not the way to express it.

As I'm not not pro-life, I missed this thread earlier today. There's a whole lot of train wreck here. Some thoughts: I am extremely politically active - I give money and time to various groups and candidates and try to be an engaged citizen. I don't however choose to use social media whether that's my personal fb/twitter/instagram pages or even here to call out a politician. I don't believe it's effective. So I would caution people who feel like people who don't post here about various politicians as being silent - they may be making their voices heard in ways they feel are more effective than a post on a message board. I used to enjoy debating on the political threads, but I don't really open them 90% of the time as there's really nothing to debate. I will say that there's no doubt Trump has crossed a line in his tweets regarding the congresspeople that made it abundantly clear that he views children of brown immigrants very differently than the children of other white immigrants - himself and his children included. And I'll be totally honest and say I probably wouldn't have posted on this thread at all as it's pretty much a train wreck, and don't really have anything substantive to add, but I had to wave at inkedup If you're maternal family was in CO pre-statehood there's like a 90% chance we're cousins- ah hell there's no wave emoji on this site - just picture it. I'm continually amazed at those who don't realize that people in the southwest had lived there 100+ years before citizenship arrived for them. My maternal line was in New Mexico before the Revolutionary War. Their descendants were still considered "foreign" 200 years later - but a first generation "white" man is wholly American. Yeah whatever.

Yeah whatever. This is so important to repeat. Some people are hell bent in white washing history, forgetting that people were already here. Hispanics were already in CA, NM, FL, TX, etc. Spain had a huge territory way back when.

Stand up and speak out publicly against racism anyway. Do the right thing, even if it is hard, even if people tell you it isn’t enough. Ignore those comments. At least you will know you have done the right thing. It is important. Even more so since people in your party are most likely to listen to what you have to say than listen to one of us.

Yeah whatever. I will always remember visiting a church in New Mexico that dated back to the early 1600’s. It was abundantly clear that there was a rich thriving culture present long before the “manifest destiny” of white settlers moving west.

Unrelated to the tweets..... but about the border.... Remember "Never again" !!! A remarkable group is living it. Email I received tonight!
I am both exhausted and energized. Today we stopped business as usual at ICE Headquarters for five hours in 95 degree heat: singing, chanting, and demanding that Speaker Nancy Pelosi take immediate action to end ICE’s reign of terror as the first step in a comprehensive solution to the immigration crisis.
Every door was blocked. No one was getting in or out. ICE was shut down.
Over 1,000 Jews, immigrants, and allies gathered in the street and entrances in front of ICE Headquarters. 80 people risked arrest, occupying the building’s lobby, blockading all entrances, and shutting down all major intersections leading to the facility. We prevented workers from entering or exiting the building for the better part of the afternoon.
Federal police forces responded violently, physically shoving protestors and threatening to drive through the blockade. ICE employees even assaulted an intern from a local TV station while they were filming. And 11 people were arrested inside the headquarter’s lobby and remain in custody.
Of course, this violence pales in comparison to the violence these federal agencies commit against immigrants, at our borders and around the country. The American public has been recently exposed to the realities of detention and family separation that the immigrant community has been experiencing for decades. In the face of shifting public opinion on immigration, Americans are ready for a new vision on immigration that recognizes the dignity of immigrant workers and families.
That is why we must continue to take action everywhere. Our response must match the scale of the crisis we are facing. Sign up for our mass call tomorrow night at 9pm ET to learn how to take action within your own community.
Today, Jews, immigrants, and allies shut down a federal agency for over four hours. This is the type of action this moment demands. Join us. With hope and drive, Serena, Never Again Action

I'm conservative and I think he should not have said that. Actually I think this is what most of us want; acknowledgment. I was so very disappointed yesterday when he made those comments about, “the squad”. I was hoping that some of our conservative members would be as outraged as I was. Nope, today we get the same old, same old. “He didn’t mean it. That wasn’t his intention “. My mother was a racist in the 50’s and her favorite saying was, “If they don’t like it they can just go back to Africa.” snowsilver when your Christian, white children are actually targeted like the Jewish children of elaine or hop2 then and only then can you understand. Jewish Synagogues are being attacked in America with children killed. Please show me one episode where one of your conservative, Christian churches has been attacked by left wing, Liberal folks.

I can understand not wanting/bothering to speak out in the huge platforms of some social media, as one unknown person isn’t likely to make a difference on Twitter. But Two Peas is a long standing community, some of us have been acquainted with each other since the early aughts. While a lurker pea or politically quiet pea may not care what an anonymous random person has to say about this on their Instagram account, if someone they are familiar with and respect says something here I feel they are more likely to actually hear that message. And the more people they know and respect that share that message, the bigger the likelihood they have of believing it has merit.

I don’t really care if people post on Facebook. I’m EXTREMELY disheartened by my real-life republican friends and acquaintances who just “don’t want to get involved.” They will not do or say anything “controversial”. Which, here in uber conservative Texas, means they will not denounce the president for his racial or misogynist views, they refuse to even acknowledge toddlers are being kept in cages—STILL—or say ANYTHING bad about the Republican Party. When they do not hold their own party accountable, they are complicit. And they will still vote for any name with an R next to it. (Bold in quote mine.)

Every time a conservative posts here, it is shut down and or attacked.
