First, the kids are black. Second, what's the visual identifier a person across the street of could see to know a couple of kids' socioeconomic status that would prompt the neighbor to violently yelling at them to go back to the ghetto? It's disgusting you're defending this. It's obvious to anyone with a brain what is going on. It was obvious to the mother who was there. JFC. Sigh. Trying to bring in perspective an event is not a "defense". But everyone keep galloping off and bleating racism. I don't see anyone of color in the video. I know the area well. I see a drunk ass woman acting like an idiot and slinging around callous comments. It's all ridiculous, and I'm not defending her.

You're ridiculous.

Well, she's the same person who defended the parents who told their gay child he was no longer their child and not to come home so.... I did not defend the parent. I was upset about the topic being brought to this forum. So, leave it. Also weird to focus on. Your question about how OP found this story was such an odd non sequitur - do you not know how the internet works? Why are you so "upset about the topic being brought to this forum"? ETA: I realize you were referencing the other thread, though you did also ask the OP of this thread why she brought this topic here. After reading through the post about the homophobic parent, I realize you are under the impression that there are certain topics we aren't allowed to discuss here. I guess you really don't understand how the internet works 😂

Elena's children are black. Postma was being racist. Where are you seeing that? I've watched the video twice now . . . One of the kids is in the video near the beginning... The link is: deadstate.org/woman-calls-in-false-report-of-gang-activity-as-black-family-visits-their-dads-house/ They are being identified as a black family.

I looked at mom’s FB and it wasn’t clear to me how she identifies but she would probably read as Hispanic to a lot of people.

Simple question.

Think about this too kibblesandbits , this woman was reporting "gang activity" and telling them to "go back to the ghetto." These types of references and comments are usually reserved for people of color. If this mother was dropping off her white children to her white ex, I don't think she would be using these words.

We are supposed to believe that in her area, the ghetto is about income and class only. Which of course, you can determine from across the street and start yelling about children about.

The thread was about a boy being kicked out of his home and rejected by his father because he was gay. She said she felt bad for the parents being picked on or something. kibblesandbits Ghetto has a specific definition, it refers to minorities in race, religion or culture. The family wasn't white. (Why are you assuming the lady was white? She looked more like bi-racial to me, but even if not... ) the article I read also states the "family was black". Maybe now that you know she may not be white, and the rest of the family definitely isn't, you can see why this was a problem then, correct?

I'm seeing this different than you all. I mostly found it interesting that this little bitty story made it to the OP's newsfeed. It hardly hit MY newsfeed and it's the next city over, and I'm friends with the undersheriff. I happen to know the area well, and thought that a local perspective would add to the discussion - not bring down the wrath of all the holiest here. So, I'll just say "I agree with you". She was an idiot, and was slinging racist comments. Or she was drunk and was slinking around the guy's condo because it was love affair gone wrong. Or she was drunk (sensing a theme?) and just generally acts a fool. She's in Cascade Township - there's probably 3 or 4 POC there. I can't imagine she runs across any of them.

Oh, I hear you and stated early on that if she was a POC this would be a different story. I see why it's a problem. On the other thread (well done, scorecard keepers) I was not defending the parents. I was advocating for two things - privacy for the family and some grace for the parents to get their heads together. Wonder how all that ended up, anyway?

And only complained about their privacy when people called you out on your defense of them. Which was pretty ridiculous considering there was no identifying info anywhere on that thread. (Sorry to everyone else for causing confusion by co-mingling the two threads, but her telling me to "leave it" guaranteed I wouldn't. :-D )

I'm sorry for saying "You're ridiculous." Let's go with "You're being ridiculous about this." That's better. Perhaps I am. Google "microaggressions" and perhaps that will put into context why something that you perceive a this little ole blip in your little ole neighborhood made the OP's feed. I wouldn't classify this abhorrent behavior as a microaggression, as it is more of a major act of racism. Understanding the larger concept of why it is racist behavior could be of benefit to you, if you are open to the possibility that you could learn something here.

This thread has followed the exact same trajectory as the thread about the parents who rejected their gay son. Someone posts a topic that interests them. You question why they posted, implying your disapproval of the topic and also some weird ownership of news that is local to you. Other peas disagree with you. You become a victim and a martyr, throwing around "holier than thous" and falling on your knees with histrionic and disingenuous "apologies". Further, I'd argue that the racially charged phrases you're defending (ghetto and gang activity) are a lot more damaging and rude than the word "ridiculous". You seriously are defending bigoted comments and then wanting to play victim over the word "ridiculous". That's the perfect word for what you are doing in this thread.

I can’t believe I’m actually writing this. Are people in Cascade Township shut-ins? Have they never seen more than 3 or 4 non-whites ever in their entire lives? So much so that they are clueless as to how to react toward people who are not like them? If being described as ridiculous is being called a “name,” oh, honey, step into my world some time and you’ll quickly realize what being called a name really means.

Here's how that thread went: someone posted an extremely personal topic that had very little to do with them, and started a complete beatdown on people that no one here knew. OP knew she would stir up the troops and make herself look wonderful in the process. I advocated for some grace for a set of parents, and wondered what they would think if they knew their personal business was being discussed so harshly here. I had no local knowledge of that event. I am neither a victim or martyr. I just see things differently often, and comment accordingly. I am not defending the offenders in either thread. So, there.

Since you are all about grace, how about you show some to the OP of the thread about the boy? Maybe she was trying to process something painful in her own life instead of "make herself look wonderful"? She gave zero identifying details about the parents, so I'm still not clear on why you are so worried about them. And, since we are policing the amount of grace that is given out, how about you show some grace to those of us against whom the words like "ghetto" have been used as racial weapons?

Just curious - how did this story out of a small township in the middle of Michigan come across your feed? I'm not seeing how this is racially motivated? People are stupid. Drunk people are even stupider. Do you have an iPhone? The Apple News app gives me stories from all over the US as well as many international stories. And opening a link to one “non-local” story often brings up several morefrom the same area. The same thing happens on my Facebook feed. I guess I don’t understand why you are so surprised about this?

Currently, I consult and train for educators and media influencers. So, the question is, how does a tiny story out of tiny Michigan get all the way across the country into someone's mailbox? Has the OP set her Google settings to pull certain stories? Is there a large group of users (FB?) sharing and trading stories? Did this hit Twitter and a SM search/retrieve that the OP set up? All interesting questions. So, yes, myshelly - I certainly do understand the internets. Even though I'm older than you. And that could be classified as a bigoted and ageist comment on your part. Hmmm?

I think the bigger issue here is the amount of privilege shown to the offender - she made a false police report, didn't even get arrested. I find that interesting.
Doing some reading on the local news page . . . #condoconnie hahaha! She's going to have a rough few days i bet.
