I have been LOVING Home for Christmas on Netflix!! So fun. I need a little more sex, drama, and bad language (in any language) than Hallmark offers, so I’ve been very happy to find this. Ingunn recommended it as being as Norwegian as a Norwegian show could be, so in that basis alone I felt like I had watch. I’m always curious about the Scandi countries. BTW sleepingbooty I’m also listening to the final book of the Winternight trilogy at last. I saved it for winter. If I had more time I’d listen to/read all 3 books over the winter, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. Too many books, too little reading time. Just watched a festive British bake-off special on Canadian TV. I need to do my baking tomorrow, as well as some wrapping. Family arrives in town on Saturday, at which point other people start dictating my schedule. Hoping for lots of festive family fun though. I’ve invited them to a lantern/flashlight solstice walk and local caroling. I’m sensing they’re more interested in the former than the latter, so I might miss out on my neighborhood singing this year. Also may have lost my Santa print scarf today, but fingers crossed I find it tomorrow. Or that someone else takes it home and enjoys it. It’s very cute.

msliz-I love those! sleepingbooty-Thank you for the daily prompts. I don't know how you get them done with all the medical emergencies going on in your family. Thank you again.

Finally took pictures of my album! I’m definitely more interested in the project by doing travelers notebook style. The whole “foundation pages and numbered days” thing isn’t me at all. http://instagram.com/p/B6Qt0nCALPx

Prompt n°18: House elvesTime to take a break from the madness before it all *really* kicks off and celebrate the little (and big!) house elves of our Yuletide season. You know the ones I mean: friends and family who have stepped up and offered to help during these busy times. Neighbours who shoveled your driveway, family who brought over dinner one night, a fellow school parent picking up all the kids, your little one helping with the housework, etc. Let's include these acts of kindess as they embody the holiday spirit. Photo ideas: Evidence of the acts of kindness in any shape or form (text message convo screenshot, clean tupperware to return to that kind someone who brought you food, etc.) but also a portrait of the house elf in your life if you can sneakily get one. Song of the day:

Finally took pictures of my album! I’m definitely more interested in the project by doing travelers notebook style. The whole “foundation pages and numbered days” thing isn’t me at all. Oh my, julie5 , those pages look awesome! I love your "clean messy" style. It's so cheerful for this December project, too! You're doing an amazing job with it. The TN format really suits you. sleepingbooty-Thank you for the daily prompts. I don't know how you get them done with all the medical emergencies going on in your family. Thank you again. Thank you for your kind words. I'm happy there's this fun thread to return to when the chaos dies down, to be honest. It's a nook of cosy and happy and paper joy. Feels good to be contributing to it with a daily prompt. I have been LOVING Home for Christmas on Netflix!! So fun. I need a little more sex, drama, and bad language (in any language) than Hallmark offers, so I’ve been very happy to find this. Right? Several Hallmark movies of the 2019 batch made me cringe and roll my eyes so far back up in my head that I just couldn't take it. Hallmark couple very, very softly flirting with each other (no chemistry, to be honest), having not even shared a single kiss yet, somewhere in the last 60 seconds of the movie: "We have so many more Christmases to spend together, a lifetime to share." NOOOOO. NO. NO! Bad Hallmark, to the naughty step. Home for Christmas is so much more realistic and fun. Five orgasms in one night, feeling confused, swearing, full-on ugly crying, wacking through the toxic to find something healthy, not settling, etc. BTW sleepingbooty I’m also listening to the final book of the Winternight trilogy at last. I saved it for winter. If I had more time I’d listen to/read all 3 books over the winter, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. It was a beautiful trilogy, wasn't it? I loved being transported and I actually think I might reread the first one in January when winter really hits us (oh my, don't remind me). I still need to order that Echo Park paper to document it. Need a giggle? I made Maccabees from a gnome die! I add a handful of pages to my December book for each year, and the 2019 section cover page is done. So, so funny. And cute! I genuinely giggled out loud when I saw your photo, msliz ! Absolutely love your Maccanisse. This is going to be such a lovely page to come across again in the future. "That year when everything was tomte and nisse!" Hugs to you and your family. Thank you, much appreciated. I'm hanging in there. Not a ton of Christmas Spirit but trying to do what's important and drop the rest. Didn't put up all of the decorations this year - put up some of them and left the rest in boxes. Tree will go up this weekend. My kids are all home - DS came home late Monday on leave - and I love having them all home. Good to hear you're managing the festive season, Linda . So glad your little family is complete again and that you are able to spend quality time together. You're doing a fantastic job baking all those breads, by the way. Can't be easy with your small oven but I love your resolution to keep this tradition going. The teachers will love your homemade gifts. Wishing you all a cosy time of healing, togetherness and little joys through these difficult days.

Prompt n°19: Impro photo sessionPosing for the perfect Christmas card photo, fancy photo booths at work parties, everybody wearing matching jumpers or PJs: December is filled with planned photo sessions. They're fun. And exhausting for those trying to get everyone ready in time (often the mothers and wives, let's be honest). You know what's even more fun? An improvised photo session using no special props or expensive materials. Pop your phone out, get some festive filters from your favourite app and start making silly faces with a loved one! There's nothing like letting one's hair loose and embracing the Christmas wildling inside each of us that is begging to come out, stick out their tongue and pose for a selfie that radiates genuine joy and will be the treasured memory of a fun, easy time together. No rules, no stress, no long waits. Just you and your kid/significant other/friend/your awesome self, the camera phone and a hint of crazy. Life is what happens in the cracks and imperfections. Photo ideas: Like you need any! Selfie time, my dah'lings. Don't forget to check your apps for silly seasonal filters. Song of the day (one for Skellinton ):

Thanks to those who suggested fruit mincemeat bars instead of buying new tart pans. I made them today with half of the mincemeat I made and they’re delicious! Tagging nicolep who asked fo the recipe I used this oaty recipe www.food.com/recipe/christmas-mincemeat-squares-43512I made my own Christmas mince using a random recipe I found online, with my own candied peel from a recipe found online too. Used up all my random dried fruit. The bars don’t hold together extremely well, so it’s almost more like a spiced fruit crisp or crumble, and tastes very good eaten warm from the pan with a spoon, with or without a dollop of whipped cream. Very sweet though - I won’t be eating it all myself. http://instagr.am/p/B6RBxExAD4r

We leave out some little cans of soda and coffee for the poor overworked delivery people this time of year with a little thank you note. Not much, but maybe it brightens someone’s day. Yesterday hubby noticed our regular FedEx driver (the one who loves to inhale our coffee mail orders as he delivers them) taking a photo of my little basket of treats. The driver told him that they have a friendly competition between drivers about who gets the nicest or maybe weirdest tips/treats this time of year. He told my husband that one guy had ordered a big box of something and when he went to deliver it the guy said “actually that’s for you!” It was a case of toothpaste!! And I think in the past he had ordered a case of toilet paper for his driver. What?! I found that so odd!

Merci for the Harry Styles vid sleepingbooty ! Helps me get over my annoyance that he was on Ellen Degeneres the other day but it was preempted for impeachment coverage. Today is my last day of work for 2 weeks, last night was our school holiday party which takes an enormous amount of work, so I am excited to finally get to relax and have some energy to do some fun Christmasy stuff at home! I did wrap presents the other day, but need to finish that up. Tomorrow I have ornament making with littles, and a gingerbread barn to decorate. In the afternoon I am going to see Nightmare at a local theater, and then the traditional White Christmas and It’s a Wonderful Life double feature on Sunday at another local theater, this time my nephew is coming with his mom and my mom, so I am excited to see them with him too. Lots of photos to get! And what better way to spend an evening then with Der Bingle and Jimmy Stewart. I will have to come home and rewatch the Harry Styles video to complete the trifecta. Hubba hubba. I think I mentioned my Nightmare sock advent calendar before, but I decided I am going to keep the little doors and use them in a countdown book of some of my favorite Nightmare items in my house. I will save the cover of the whole thing and use it on my page for tomorrow at the movie theater. Love seeing everyone’s pages, giving me lots of inspiration for the post holiday assembly!

Prompt n°20: Wrapper of the year
With all the major celebrations just around the corner, it's time to get the gifts wrapped up and ready to be slipped under the tree. Get that other paper activity of the month in your album this year. Are you doing it on your own? Watching a festive movie while battling the rolls of pretty paper? Are you sharing the task with someone else? Did you plan out your giftwrap session in advance so the kids would be out of the house? Did you treat yourself to a special holiday drink for the occasion? Where did you buy your paper this year? Did you make your own tags? Get it all documented! Photo ideas: The rolls of paper you selected, an action shot of yourself or someone wrapping a gift, the pile of presents before and after the job was completed. Song of the day:

Underrated Hallmark Christmas movie that I just remembered today because of the daily prompt: 12 Gifts of Christmas. In case anyone wants to dive in the Hallmark movie archive for some better quality stuff because oy vey, 2019 is not living up to usual standards.
By the way, did anyone read Hilarie Burton's story about being let go from a 2019 Hallmark Christmas movie because she asked to include diversity? Yikes. It was the one that features Chad Michael Murray so my One Tree Hill heart is broken because that's a reunion I would have loved to see (although they did sign another OTH actress for it instead). Mind you, the movie was crap.

See now I have to watch it as a Norwegian 😃 A friend of mine recommended it too. Curious to see something very Norwegian! I will also recommend a tv-show called Lillyhammer if you are an American curious about Norway. An American mob boss is sent to Lillehammer in Norway because he is in the witness protection program. The mob boss used to watch the Olympics in Lillehammer and requested to be sent there. The show gets a bit dark, but it's agreat mix of American and Norwegian language, and how Norway can be perceived by foreigners (we have many quirks, they do a great job showcasing them)

Ok, the movie I watched on Amazon was called Christmas Time. Since I watched it, it wouldn't come up so I searched for "christmas movie brother time travel" and found this kickstarter:
I thought it was good.

Thanks for the movie recommendations. I laughed out loud when I read “it was like real movie”
Discovered in the process that Amazon Prime has a bunch of Lifetime movies that have the same actors in them as the Hallmark movies. One that sounded good even had a specific pair of actors who worked together on a message in a bottle/office romance Hallmark movie. Not that I have time to watch anything really.
Does anyone else feel like they’re running out of time to do all their festive fun things? Not the to do list things, but the seasonal fun things you enjoy. I try to live fairly seasonally/in the moment, so I drink eggnog in December, drink pepppermint mochas in December, once January 6th rolls around I stop doing Christmas things or wearing Christmas things. This year I feel like the month has gone by very quickly and I’m worried that I’ve run out of time to savor all the holiday feels.
I didn’t gather any evergreen boughs for solstice decorations, I’m not sure if we’ll have a solstice night fire, I haven’t made much time for movies, I haven’t gone wandering around shopping places watching other people’s frantic shopping, or wandered around Target just to see what the trends are for holiday stuff this year - that has saved me some money! In some ways I’m feeling ok that I didn’t jump into too much holiday crafting or shopping or do things that don’t mesh with my values (I’m so over malls and Target, etc) but I also have that sneaking suspicion that I’m going to feel like I missed out on Christmas (even though it hasn’t even started yet!)
I guess this is my chance to reflect and decide which things I don’t want to miss out on! Maybe I need to take myself to get a holiday drink and watch The Holiday in front of a Shortest Day/Longest Night fire.
(BTW I heard that Seattle had the lowest recorded solar energy/sunlight reading ever yesterday. Yay. Dark days, sigh.)

joblackford December has flown! I shoved all the fun activities into the first week because i knew my ds would be recovering from a medical procedure for a couple weeks. And work has been hectic, leaving me wiped out. Sometimes it feels like I'm just surviving the holiday season instead of relishing it. But i also have realized that maybe, especially in the December Daily mindset, there is just so much pressure for perfection. My December pages will not reflect a perfectly curated set of activities, foods, events, beverages, and outfits. And that's okay.

Prompt n°21: Mother NatureThis is the time of the year for pine and evergreen, wreaths of branches, gifts of poinsettias, walks in the snowy woods (or on warm beaches for all of you down under) and the reminder of nature's cycle as we're faced with the extreme season of all things going dormant (or slowly but surely burning under the unforgivable sun). With the official 2019 solstice just a day away, let us take a moment to celebrate the beauty of nature this December. How is nature present in your life this month? Are you seeking it out or trying to stay away from its capricious weather? Can you find something in the natural world that bewitches you as Christmas draws closer? Photo ideas: Your favourite bit of daily nature (garden, park, woods, etc.), the children playing outside, your home under a coat of fresh snow, a plant or flowers you received recently, the plant pots you brought inside for the cold months, animals spotted outside. Song of the day:
