Do we have a recent December album example of someone who used exclusively 1 kit to make it entirely, only supplementing with basics like cardstock, striped pattern paper, basic alpha or numeral stamps, etc.? Although not entirely exclusive (I think she mixed in a little Crate Paper) Sheree Forcier recently shared the bulk of her 2018 album with last year's FJ kit. I really love her simple and clean approach and I'm going to aim for something similar this year.
If you're looking for someone using AE's products, I watched Amy Gretchen's flip through from 2018 recently and I don't think she used too many other products from what I can recall.

However, she mixed in other things like the Paislee Press mini from AE, some Crate Paper and likely add-ons. I was curious in seeing someone stretch one kit to the max. It looks like those doing DD have such a stash by now that everyone has a mix happening (and multiple collections/kits from the present year on top of that). It'd be interesting to see someone start a DD album in a tabula rasa manner and try to squeeze as much as possible out of the 1 simple kit purchase.

Can I just say I get super annoyed when some old person pulls out a checkbook at the grocery store AFTER everything is bagged and starts filling everything a la Tim Conway's old man? It's all I can do to not shout and say "Use your damn debit card!" And BTW, I am 61, not a youngster at all. We don’t even have a debit card. When I’m at Walmart I use the “exact amount” and the computer prints it. I mean I’m sorry if I’m holding up the line, I try to be respectful. I’m 42. What does "exact amount" mean or do? And to be clear, it's not people that have everything filled out and are just waiting for the total. It's people that wait until the total comes out and THEN decide to pull out the check book and fill everything out ever. so. slowly.

Thanks for posting Sheree’s link - her album is lovely!

I bought this little house garland and wanted to see how it would look hanging. I guess it's staying up until January now. Luckily it's lovely! I once had a housemate whose decided to put up the Christmas tree in April because she felt our house needed some low maintenance greenery.

I really love her simple and clean approach and I'm going to aim for something similar this year. Just watched this. I had seen the 2017 but this one is also amazing. I added her to instagram so I can keep an eye on what she does now. Her title page is VERY simple. It makes me feel a lot better about mine. I'm going to add a couple of gold stars and call it a day. I'm also might put my calendar on the back of my title page. I printed it to be the next page but was at a loss for what to put on the back of the title page. I'm going to play around today. First bit of Christmas décor went up. I bought this little house garland and wanted to see how it would look hanging. I guess it's staying up until January now. That's so cute. I love trees and have a very nice mantle above our fireplace. Our house is over 100 years old and we have a double mantle with a mirror. I have been kind of collecting trees and put them on the top. I just love it. I may have already bought two this year. I'm working from home today so I'm going to take it easy and play a little as well. I've been working some late nights and I'm making up for it!

My ‘Christmas tree’ has been sitting in the corner of my dining room between the China cabinet & the wall since I undecorated it. It is a potted pine. I don’t think it looks bad.

I know I'm preaching to the choir...and I'm in the choir but... Watching YouTube and getting anxious with the amount of product these scrappers have for DD. I mean really...you bought like every pack of stickers and every embellishment and every clearance item and every Target dollar spot tree...stuffing it into baskets, bins, folders and containers and pockets. I mean this stuff is enough to do 85 albums. It's wasteful and plastic and consumerism. I just really get dizzy from all the STUFF...I'm guilty of all of it to an extent and December is the easiest season to buy but I'm surprised how much this bothers me this year! Consumerism is really bothering me this year. I'm just so tired of the more, more, MORE! mentality. In 2019, not including photo printing, I've spent under $30 on scrapbook stash. And I'm currently on a freeze, because it makes me physically sick to equate how many hours i need to work to buy things. Anything at all. I'm trying hard not to be a grinch about Christmas, but I secretly feel like screaming, "Stop asking! You don't need more things!" at my kids. ( I would never say it though, so that will be between me & the peas). I have a paper pad of Christmas paper, and I'm going to use stamps, Stickles, sequins, etc for embellishments. I really just want to use what I have, and see how far it takes me.

If most Americans (myself very much included) looked at how much things cost in terms of hours worked vs how many dollars things cost I am certain consumerism just for the sake of consumerism would be a thing of the past. Congratulations on sticking to your freeze. I am sure your DD will look just lovely and more "you" since you will be creating your own embellishments.

http://instagram.com/p/B45Fmr4Al-3 Really enjoying this. If anyone wants the jpeg of the calendar, let me know. I won’t post publicly as it’s not mine. Love the pink fresh snow globes! I’m not 100% on the gifts. I think I’ll put something else in there.

I'm still on the hunt for a DD calendar. Haven't seen "then one", but I'm enjoying all the ideas you ladies are adding to the thread!
I just bought the Product Play 3 class. The Thankful code does work to save some $ if anyone is thinking about it.

I hear you LavenderLayoutLady my 16 yo requested an iPhone 11 for Xmas. Instead of guffawing at him I simply asked “do you know how much those cost?” He didn’t of course and I politely told him even I’m not allowed to buy a phone so expensive. It’s unnecessary. So I finally finished wiping my old iPhone 6 clean for him and gave it to him (it was promised a year ago) and he now just wants a new case for it. My husband likes to spoil us but I think my kids don’t realize how hard you have to work for stuff! Well, my 20 year old does. Now she wishes she could go backwards and enjoy the good life. Being a single mom is the pits. But I wish I could go back to my single mom self and tell her to find joy in the little things. I was so worried about money at a time when my kids didn’t really care what they got. I spent a lot of time crying because I couldn’t give them the same kind of home their dad did (a whole family with 2 parents). Here we are all these years later and his wife is gone thanks to a raging drug addiction. They lived in fear of her and I was too busy being bitter to realize it. Anyways I went off on a tangent. Just keep your head up. You’re doing awesome.

Being a single mom is the pits. But I wish I could go back to my single mom self and tell her to find joy in the little things. Ain't that the truth? I was a single mom for 8 years and I was so worried about doing the right thing and not screwing up my boys that I don't remember enjoying spending time with them. But I guess it is never too late to enjoy time with them, even if they are adults. And I love, love, love that Cocoa Daisy kit.

I made some digital templates today for December daily. I was more just wondering if I could. Lol. I’m so bad at photoshop but it worked. I may try to do some weekly spreads like retro hip mama posted to her YouTube today.

I have a strict plan for 2020 to shop my stash and only buy from a few collections within a strict budget. Once the budget is gone, it's gone no matter how much I want something. I actually calculated everything that I have spent in 2016, 2018 and 2019 and was astonished. Albeit my first year into memory keeping was the most expensive and 2018 when I returned was a little less. This year, I only purchased a few collections and I am so happy about that. I'm sure I cannot do $30 for the year, but we all have our limitations. Congrats on sticking through your freeze.

Just finished my 2018 album, whoop whoop! So pleased it's done and I can start to concentrate on this year's album now. So tomorrow's tasks, if I can get the kids entertained with something else, is to pull out anything from last year's stash and pass on to my 8 years old's DD pile. Then I'm going to organise more of my crafty things - I moved my desk to a different room a few months back and I have stuff *everywhere*. Need to find all my alpha stamps and my 2" circular punch. Then start on foundations or at least make a start on the title page and my letter to the kids (I don't do a reason why I write to the kids instead and do a quick recap of the last year). But first sleep, because it's way past my bedtime.

Just finished my 2018 album, whoop whoop! Nice!! I'm ready for more challenges. I am actually using the challenges! I'm not doing a great job at getting rid of stuff but I'm doing it slowly. Everytime I go through the stickers or pile of something, I'll put stuff I know I won't use in a plastic bag near the floor. It's out of the way but I don't have to drag it downstairs to the basement with the rest of the stuff.

T W O weekends left until December, documenters! Every weekend until December starts, this thread will post a couple of prep challenges for you to get ready in time for "the big month." For those wanting to document through the month, this prep can be a matter of DD/JYC survival. If you've done this month-long project before, you know what I mean. For anyone else, it's a great way to not get overwhelmed after the fact if you're documenting your December 2019 memories next year. Challenge 5: Get inspired! We've curated a stash, played along with Ali's Prep Party, gotten rid of unnecessary extras, now it's time to browse your heart out. Set a timer if you're prone to going down rabbit holes online so you don't spend your entire day looking at December album videos on YouTube and posts on Instagram. Pick one fave (be it a fresh discovery or an oldie) and share it here along with 3 to 5 reasons why you love it so dearly/how it can inspire you this year. Challenge 6: Get even more inspired! This one requires thinking outside the box. In challenge 5, you must've come across albums that weren't quite to your taste. Maybe it's the colour scheme, the distressed/grungy look, the format, etc. However, you're going to need to share one thing about such an album that inspires you for your album this year. It can be anything: an interactive page, the way somebody journals (writing style or layout), the title page, the photography style, etc. Take something from a December Daily or Journal Your Christmas that isn't necessarily to your personal liking but that can feed your creativity and documenting anyway!

Ooooooo I’ve been wanting to make a DD!! Join us, join us, join us! Welcome, please take a seat and make yourself at home. This thread is full of DD old-timers so if you need any help, give us a shout. I'm ready for more challenges. I am actually using the challenges! Huzzah! So happy they are helping some of us. ALL the feels, here. Piano piano. You're doing great focusing on "will I really use this?" but I totally understand the pain of having to drag stuff downstairs. It's the extra hassle you just don't want to deal with it... (been there, done that) There sure are, mon amie. Are you in for a browsing treat... (I know you love it, XOXO, Gossip Booty ) Just finished my 2018 album, whoop whoop! CONGRATULATIOOOONS! That must ful *so* great. Weight off the shoulders, mental load gone, cue Elsa singing Let It Go. Seriously though, well done. I hope you managed to catch up on some of the sleep you lost in the process... I have a strict plan for 2020 to shop my stash and only buy from a few collections within a strict budget. Once the budget is gone, it's gone no matter how much I want something. I actually calculated everything that I have spent in 2016, 2018 and 2019 and was astonished. It adds up quickly, doesn't it? I've been forcing myself to track expenses more diligently in the past year and yeah, it ain't pretty. If you have a bit of a stash, it's absolutely worth setting yourself the challenge to shop from it. You've paid for this in-house store supplies anyway, might as well just use it... I made some digital templates today for December daily. Well done! Photoshop can be intimidating but once you start having some fun with it, it's far less scary. I hear you LavenderLayoutLady my 16 yo requested an iPhone 11 for Xmas. Instead of guffawing at him I simply asked “do you know how much those cost?” He didn’t of course and I politely told him even I’m not allowed to buy a phone so expensive. Great Home Economics/Mathematics exercise as well for your kiddo: make a wish list of stuff and experiences you want to enjoy in the next few years and then calculate how many hours of work it will cost your parents, yourself with a job at XYZ, yourself with a better job after having acquired some sort of higher education (be it strictly academic or different). I grew up raised by a struggling single parent and was aware of how little there was in her accounts (she'd check her balance at the dinner table where I did my homework and was very open about it), how much she made per hour and was told to calculate how many hours she'd need to work to buy something (anything: something to fix the home, food, a pair of shoes, clothes at the consignment store, etc.) and I barely ever asked for anything expensive growing up with that amount of knowledge. It actually harms children not being aware of the reality of how much things costs for the sake of "protecting their childhood." You need to learn these tools early on. Being a single mom is the pits. Shoutout to all the December documenters in here who have been/are single parents! You're doing a tough job but know that I appreciate everything you do/did. I'm super grateful for my single parent. If most Americans (myself very much included) looked at how much things cost in terms of hours worked vs how many dollars things cost I am certain consumerism just for the sake of consumerism would be a thing of the past. Yes. This is what I've been doing more and more over the past few years. Then, this summer, my boyriend pointed out that it wasn't just "money of the present" that you pay with when you make bonus purchases, but also "money of the future." And that hit me hard: if I invest this extra money, even just 1 or 2h worth of wages, now that I'm still in my early thirties, it will be quite a bit more down the line when I retire and could mean leaving work earlier than expected (especially as a millennial since we'll be working far later into life to support the growing aging population). When I went to Sephora earlier this month (putting it off as long as possible), no bonus goodies fell into my basket, trust me. I had a plan and stuck to it. It's great to shift your thinking in such ways. I'd rather work less than own more. Well done! I still haven't spent anything but I do think I'll eventually cave and get this year's Simple Stories holiday binder. It is kind of daunting when you realise how much of your life you're spending doing stuff to buy stuff, isn't it? I'm not trying to discourage anyone from making fun, crafty purchases but 99% of the community is enabling spending so I do feel like it's only fair to encourage the low and non-spenders. And stash-shopping has its benefits: finding stuff you once loved but have stopped thinking about, being more creative working with limited supplies, having a more original and unique December album, etc. Anyhoo, kudos to you. Our house is over 100 years old and we have a double mantle with a mirror. I have been kind of collecting trees and put them on the top. I just love it. A winter wonderland forest of your own! Ahh ok,I probably wasn't paying close enough attention when I watched it. You're probably right, everyone (who is sharing anyway) has a stash built up that they're drawing from. It would be a good challenge though! No problem! I totally get it: it's becoming harder and harder to spot ALL the product that goes into an album these days... I look forward to seeing someone complete the 1 kit challenge someday. I once had a housemate whose decided to put up the Christmas tree in April because she felt our house needed some low maintenance greenery. Let's just say she was trying to save money and make-do with what was in storage?... where the houses already decorated or is that your awesome skills? I do love watercolours and painting but this garland came all printed with even some gold foil finish. It was a total lucky (and super cheap at only 2.50€) find! Isn't it the cutest? I wasn't going to buy anything but having lived in an old town full of old gable rooftop houses for a few years as a child, I just couldn't walk away from the store without it. ALL the nostalgic feels!
