We are. What else should we do? My Dem lawmakers are writing/supporting bills that would alleviate the problem if not totally solve it (because of the 2A) and we’re not getting anywhere because of opposition. I continue to contribute to The Brady Campaign, and I’m sure many others do, too, with other gun control lobbyists. I vote for people who are not in NRA’s pocket, and I’m sure many others do, too. What else can we do? 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 I hope that these tragic murders and the lack of substantive response by the GOP will motivate Democrats to turn out to vote. Beyond that, yeah, we are pretty helpless right now. I guess by "we," I really mean all the people who resist the needed change. Yes, a lot of us are trying to accomplish change, I just don't know what it takes to get through some people's heads that change may not be perfect, but we need to try something different.

Just my opinion, but new leadership. I don’t think that change is possible unless and until the Senate flips. McConnell will never allow it, IMO.

I say this on every one of these threads.
THIS WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN UNTIL WE ARE OUT IN THE STREETS ON A SUSTAINED BASIS TO FORCE LEGISLATORS TO TAKE ACTION other than 'Thoughts and Prayers'.

Lauren by any other name still sounds like Lauren. That's the best you've got? Dayum. Chemo has truly fried your brain. Try again. And there it is. You aren’t some random newbie. Vile, piece of pathetic shit. Jesus Christ you’re an asshole.

You know I'm starting to get tired of blaming mental illness. I have long been an advocate of psychiatrists having the ability to put mentally ill people on block lists for gun purchase. I'm fine with my name being on that list too even though the chances of me hurting someone are zero. But some of this is just pure evil. There are things medicines and therapies can't fix. There are people who are just evil. Exactly. The El Paso murderer didn’t kill people because he was mentally ill, he killed them out of hatred for the color of their skin/ethnicity.

This was in a article this morning There is so much wrong with the that it is sickening. I can't believe he would even make that statement about hate, when he has fueled so much of it. And then to try to defend his administration when people were just murdered. It just shows how out of touch with America he really is. Full article MSN Article

If he's so worried about mental illness and shootings, why this?

My husband's uncle blames Obama for this violence.
Obama.
I have had to stay off of social media because I just cannot handle the ignorance and open bigotry.
Texas has lax gun laws and many people there open carry. And yet, the police and not some "good guy with a gun" stopped the shooter. Not to mention the fact that the shooter still managed to kill scores of people before he was stopped. It's almost like the "good guy with a gun" theory is ridiculous.

What will it take to get change? A mass shooting at the Republican Convention? A mass shooting at the NRA Convention? They make you check your guns before coming in (at least at the Republican Convention, but maybe an NRA event). I know places that sell guns make you check your guns before you go in.I've never been to a republican convention or event, nor an NRA event. I've been plenty of places that sell guns (in multiple states) that don't require, or even encourage "checking your guns" before going in. I've never even seen it suggested lol There is no way on earth I'd shop somewhere that requests that.

Someone should highlight this in an ad next time they start the comments about needing more guns to be safe, blah blah blah. Or perhaps highlight it when citing misinformation. Never ever have I even been requested or suggested to check a gun in a gun store or at a range that sells guns. Edited to add.. there is no way in the world I would hand over a firearm registered to me to some rando even if they would remain in my sight the entire time, much less take it from my sight. Not in a million years.

As we have said before, how are the cops to know which guy with a gun is a good guy? Too soon some good guy with a gun is going to be shot by police and/or another good guy with a gun!
On reflection I think that the quick police response and the policy to go in, any good guy with a gun hesitated, far too many people present.

Not in a million years. I paid more attention to the statement about nra events and the republican convention and skimmed over the part about gun stores. Not sure if that poster was referring to gun stores or gun shows. But you are right, the information needs to be accurate. I don’t doubt that those events do not allow guns.
