If you know the address, you can use The Chronicle's Outage Map. Thank you! So my hotel is not in the affected area but the golf course is "potential"

I got the email that power would be off at 8pm so when I came home from dinner, I was pleasantly surprised to still have power. I guess I'll find out if they turn it off in the morning or in the middle of the night, which would wake me since my cpap would stop working...

I have friends in their 3rd day of power outage out in Grass Valley and Sonora. Really feel for those who have their water from wells. I didn't realize you need electricity for that as well.

I’m supposed to lose power today at 3. Might be back on Monday at 5. Could be out until WEDNESDAY late afternoon. This is such bullshit.

That was interesting to read, thanks for sharing.
I'm gearing up here for my 6th PSPS. I've got it pretty well down to a science by now and it's not actually all that disruptive, just annoying and frustrating. I also have a generator this go round so my fridge and freezer will be safe. I threw away a ton of food after the last PSPS. People that have SNAP benefits can get more benefits to get their food replaced. Little old me just gets to wait until next payday and wonder if it's a good idea to even bother stocking the fridge again.
One positive thing about going through this in my little community is seeing everyone share their ingenuity and hospitality with their neighbors. We're all pissed off at PG&E instead of each other. Yesterday someone shared a little $40 gadget you can hook up to a car or boat battery and use it to power electronics for days.
It is interesting how these long events are different from a little storm power outage we might have in the winter. For example, I have an old fashioned land line so that I will still have a phone available in the event of a power outage. Works great! Until AT&T's generator back up system at their substations started to die after a couple of days. Many people's landlines stopped working. It's ok though because we can still go online right? Sort of, after a couple of days the back up batteries on the cell towers died and the individual providers had to go out and hook up generators to the towers.
So today, before 3PM I will get all of my laundry for the upcoming work week and Halloween done. Clean my house and run the dishwasher one last time. Prepare meals so I am not cooking in the dark. Get a bunch of movies ready to go on the laptop. And overall, still be really grateful that I don't have a house that relies on a well for water.
Stay safe everybody.

chaosisapony I have to wait until the mail gets here today with the piece for me to fix my washer door so I can do laundry. Mail comes around 2. Shut off is supposed to happen around 2. I win! LOL No laundry has been done since Sunday. I (and my entire household) might have to be naked next week for work and school. LOL. Oh, and I need to use my sewing machine and heat press and cameo for my sons night ninja halloween costume (that the thermals got lost by the post office and are somewhere en route so they may or may not come, solving my need for the heat press, sewing machine, cameo). I'm hoping that worst case scenario his stuff comes today/tomorow and I can take it to work with me and use the maker and heat press there on my prep period/after school to get it finished. BUT I need to sew him a hat. That requires the sewing machine. AND I need to wash the fabric first so it doesn't shrink after it's made. No washer, can't wash, can't sew. Fun times! Thankfully I have a gas stove top that I know how to light and bbq so we're good with cooking. We have a REALLY small generator that will run ONLY the fridge or ONLY the TV/dish. Have to shut off whatever is plugged in to it so I can have a hot shower since we have an on demand water heater that requires an electric spark eventho it's gas. I'm VERY thankful that we are not on a well/septic like some of the people around me! I'd be SUPER pissed if that were the case! My neighbors will be so very pleased to hear the generator kick on at 5:45 monday morning! No internet. Flip phones so no data. That means ZERO connection to anything other than phone/texting. We have solar but no backup battery since it was almost as much as the system we put in. AND solar doesn't work unless there's a "signal" from PG&E's lines. So... alas, useless in an outage. It's ridiculous living in a place that is so "well off" but feeling like a 3rd world country at the moment. I get that people around the world have it MUCH worse than I do. However, I'm used to the conveniences of my life and really hate when I have to completely flip it upside down because a stupid company can't properly manage their assets and equipment in favor of bonuses and high pay.

There is now a mandatory evacuation order for the towns of Healdsburg and Windsor in Sonoma County. Authorities want everyone out of these areas by 4 pm today when PG&E starts turning off the power.
That is roughly 50,000 people heading south on Hwy 101 which, for the most part, is 2 lanes in each direction.

ABC News...
”NEW: Pacific Gas and Electric Co. announced the company will shut off power for approximately 940,000 customers, an increase of 90,000 from the previous estimate of 850,000.”

I just got 12 hour notification that my area may be turned off at some point in the next 12 hours. It's DEAD CALM here right now. Like not even a breeze.

We have a REALLY small generator that will run ONLY the fridge or ONLY the TV/dish. I can't seem to make my generator do my box for Directv! It's so frustrating. It has plenty of power to do my fridge, a light, and my tv/directv box. But for some reason, even with everything else unplugged, the Directv box gets stuck in a never ending cycle when it tries to power back on. So frustrating. There is no reason it shouldn't work.

Things are aligning for me at the moment! We still have power at the moment. Post office delivered DS's thermals for his costume. I can hand cut the parts I need for it from vinyl and then use the heat press on Monday. Post office also delivered the part I needed for my washer door. I threw in a load of laundry including the damn thermals and fabric I need to use to make the hat. I'll throw those in the dryer before I leave and hope the power stays on long enough to dry the clothes. I can sew the hat tuesday or wednesday after work assuming power comes back on Monday. Otherwise I will learn how to use the sewing machines I have sitting in my science lab and do it at work.

I live by cites in higher elevation that have it (Eldorado County), but here, we have both PG&E and SMUD. The demand for dry ice is high at my store and I don't think it's for Halloween parties. I helped a customer out to her car today with 3 large bags of ice. I asked her what the occasion was and she said "power outage". I asked her if they get credited for the time it's off and she said no. That triggered me and made me want to go all Erin Brockavich on them. Something doesn't feel right about this.

This is starting to sound a little bit like a dream I had 2 nights ago, only the evacuation was from world-ending tornadoes and trains came to pick everyone up. 101 is a parking lot already, I couldn't even imagine.

How do y’all handle the constant uncertainty of when you’ll have power? I imagine the “lucky” can afford a good generator, don’t have well water, and have some form of gas cooking available to them. What can you do to prepare? I think I’d completely keep up with laundry and dishes, only shop for so much fresh food at a time, keep a good stock of food that is easy to prepare in an outage along with plenty of bottled water, keep all electronics and portable chargers charged, etc. And of course, have an evacuation plan updated and ready to go. It it must be very stressful having to constantly be this vigilant and I’m very sorry you’re having to go through this. I’m crazy mad for you as well. Wait, how do those of you who have CPAPs manage? It’s dangerous to run a generator inside isn’t it?

I'm saving up my pennies for a wall so I can give PG&E the middle finger.

Why would there be a credit? You only get billed for what you use. So the meter isn't running when the power is shut off. Therefore, no charge during the psps.

Without using the humidifier the battery will last two nights. I can charge it using a 12v (car charger). We also have a generator that I can use to charge it. And yes, it is dangerous to run a generator or any gas powered item inside a house. I guess you could run an extension cord through a window and have the generator outdoors.

Mine went out at about 6:30. We had been told to prepare for a 2 PM shut off. In the past, regardless of conditions, it has gone off at the exact time they state. So I'm hopeful that maybe they're paying closer attention to local conditions instead of just flipping the switch willy nillyl

I've never heard of a battery wall. I don't like being a customer of a company I use by obligation. Song playing in my head right now is: "walk away from all that you know"

I bought the generic one from cpap.com. It works really well for me and my Resmed S9. Sorry my power is out or I would link it.
