I like to but rarely actually do. Except when a hurricane is heading right for me. Then I think everyone in its path pulls at least a thousand out in cash.

If you follow any kind of preparedness plan you should keep some cash on hand. What if the ATM is down, banks go under, stores are not taking credit cards, etc................ I have a neighbor who has a plan for that. She is stocked up on whisky, cigarettes, and toilet paper. She plans to barter. I like your neighbor!

British peas, is this a 'thing' regarding windows?? I gotta know.. I have my outside windows cleaned every month. I pay £10 for 14 windows and my front door. To the OP I usually have about £100 cash in my house at any one time.

I live right on a busy road so my front door and windows get really dirty really quickly. Covered in all sorts of grime. There's a man who comes round with a brush on a long pole to clean them. I used to have it done once a month, but stopped a while ago because it seemed expensive...and clearly it was, compared to everyone else! I don't know if it's a British thing, maybe just a 'living in a town'thing? Okay that is so funny to me.. someone just comes around to clean windows?? I never heard such a thing. I mean I see window washers on big buildings.. lol.. but not randomly.. ummmmm maybe I would have nice clean windows if someone came knocking on my door. That sounds really lovely. There are a lot of domestic window cleaning businesses in the UK. In some places they are so busy that it's difficult to find one. It's quite a lucrative business if you have a good " round". Mine cleanes about 10. or 12 houses in my street. There are a couple of others that visit the street too. A bit like your lawn service really. We usually cut our own lawns here but have out windows cleaned by someone else

I do not, although all the dystopian novels I like to read would advise me to keep some. I mean look what happened in the beginning of "The Handmaid's Tale" with the banks and credit cards of women.... The most I have at the moment is a bundle of $1.00 bills leftover from my Israel trip (they suggest you bring ones to use for tips or buying small items in the markets). They're sitting in a decorative box on top of my dresser if anyone is planning to steal them. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/OrTI4SBmZ2ZYSFv6ag4f.jpg) There's probably $30.00 or so left by now since I take a few every once in awhile if there's a yard sale in the neighborhood, or if I want to walk up to 7-11 for a Coke.

no, i rarely even have cash. the only $$ laying around my house for emergencies is my kids' birthday money. which i have been known to dip into (and always pay back!!!) we used to have cash as my STBX is a contractor and often was paid in cash. i was only to use it for gas, groceries, clothes, etc (untrackable spending) and it always made me uncomfortable. then we split and i got totally screwed over because there was no proof of his income. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg)

Or else it's the best of both worlds. All the jobs get hired out and the couple lies around eating bon-bons!

One time DH had the windows washed when the gutters were cleaned out. I was so excited about that
With regards to cash- I usually have zero. But dh keeps an u known amount to me in the safe.

Nope. I don't think I even have a dollar in change in my wallet. I use my card for everything. It makes tracking spending easier.
I figure if a natural disaster hits, given where I live (around the corner from the hospital), I'll either be the one first ones rescued, or I'll be dead. Either way, I won't have to worry about cash.
Editted to add that I do have a decent amount of change in a really cool Darth Vader piggy bank I got for Christmas last year (or the year before; don't remember). I need to empty it out & get it converted to cash, which I will then deposit into my vacation account.

Guess we got it all wrong! Brit married to an American here - we have WAY too much lawn (2 acres of weeds and 2 of trees) that rarely manages to get mowed and windows that I'm ashamed to admit have only been hosed down a couple of times in the decade we've lived here. We got it all wrong also. But I do remember my British Dad washing windows .... mum (American) apparently didn't do a good enough job (I suspect she made little effort to do a better job as she freely admits she hates washing windows)

So if a Brit marries an American... There might be a problem My Brit won’t clean windows and hates grass. ☹️ He begrudgingly cuts it but he thinks Americans are obsessed with grass. 😁

Yes in my “go kit” as part of my emergency preparedness plan. Even 10 days after Irma hit we still had power out and a lot of places that couldn’t take credit right when they did reopen. And we were not hit hard.

Our across the street neighbors are Greek. She keeps tons of potted plants and does a huge vegetable garden every year, but the grass only gets mowed when the HOA sends them a letter.
