I am a nervous driver when it comes to driving in mountainous areas (PA turnpike). I can't drive in fog, ice or snow.
In good conditions, I think I am a good driver. One of the only ones that follow the rules! Haha! I don't speed and I stop at stop signs and don't run red lights. That makes me one of the best drivers in our area by far!
I have no sense of direction so I always get lost.

My daughter is a freshman in college and is undecided. She is so stressed out about it as she says all of her friends know exactly what they want to do. My husband thinks she should try mechanical engineering, but she is stressed about how hard it is and whether she will get the grades to be admitted to engineering. She needs more self confidence. My daughter has just completed her first year of a double degree in Engineering and Science. Her major for Science is Chemistry and her major for Engineering is Chemical Engineering. She has really enjoyed both the mechanical and electrical engineering classes that she has done. That's very impressive! Did she take engineering classes in high school?
My daughter is in an intro to engineering class that is required. She would have to apply to the engineering school and to be accepted, she can only have a grade lower than a B. She already has a C in Calc 2. But in the intro class, they have to work together in a group to build a type of car (not real car, but I don't know how to explain it). She said all the kids in the class have some type of engineering background (don't know what that means as they are freshmen). She worries she can't compete or contribute so she dropped the class. I asked her to talk to the professor and explain her concerns. But she didn't want to do that. I guess she really doesn't want to do engineering but maybe wanted to look into it because my husband thinks she should be a mechanical engineer.

I finally got some organization done. My 3 kids were here for 6 weeks for Christmas break, and I did nothing during that time. They brought their 3 cats and our dog is now disabled, so we were very busy. They went back a week ago, so I have been putting things back in place.
I have 3 rubbermaids in the basement with extra kitchen stuff. We have hardly any storage in our kitchen and a small pantry, so I like to only keep out what we use every week. One bin is for once a year holiday cooking stuff, then the other 2 are containers and stuff we may need every so often. I went through and donated of some of that stuff. It's easier to buy if needed then holding on to something I may not need.

Growing up, I always wanted a large fancy house. In 2008 we built a large fancy home (7000 sq. ft. including unfinished basement). It had everything I thought I would want in a house, very large rooms, bathrooms in the bedrooms, study, large foyer, etc. But it was so open and there was no privacy at all. The family room was two stories, and the "hall" upstairs was open to the family room and foyer. If I was sitting on the sofa in the family room, I could almost see into each room including bedrooms upstairs. It was also very loud. We lived there for 2 yrs. and then moved back to our other 2000 sq. ft. house (1 mile away). I am so much happier here in our smaller house and much nicer neighbors.
In our current house, I just want white kitchen, new family room furniture and new carpeting. It's all 20 yrs. old or older, so it's needed.

Also doing weight watchers. My go to for lunches are the make ahead meals from Sweet Savory and Steph. sweetsavoryandsteph.com/category/lunch/I don’t mind the repetiveness of the same meal all week, it makes for one less thing to think about. She also posts reels each week on IG of what’s in her lunch bag. Thanks for sharing the website! I already found some that sound so good!

I watched too. I really like Hoda and feel so bad that it didn't work out. They both seem like great people. Is Savannah leaving the Today show? My mom texted me and said that she was because she has a cosmetic company. I think my mom saw a false article or something and she thought it was real. I looked and didn't see anything about it. So I was just wondering if anyone else heard something like that. I don’t think it’s true. On the original Colin Kaepernick post yesterday (that’s now deleted) someone mentioned this was also not true (Savannah). They also mentioned the Miss America rumor as being not true, BUT that one is true. The 2019 Miss America jumped off a NYC building this past weekend. Thanks! It was me that asked about Savanah on the thread yesterday too. I figured it would be all over the news if Savanah was leaving. My mom thought today was her last day. But no party for her or things they usually do when someone leaves the show. I guess when Savannah stays on she will be convinced.

Only 3-4 times a year. I hate to clean the oven, it's so hard to reach around the heating element on the top and bottom. I don't even clean the top anymore, the heating element goes all over and it's almost impossible. I use Easy Off as it's the only thing that works for me. I cook with so much olive oil, it splatters everywhere.
Once I used this baking soda mix and it cleaned really well, but I still have baking soda in the grooves and can't get it out.

My DM facebook group says dogs with DM can't control their body temp very well and often pant because they are too warm. That they like a fan on them. But that doesn't always work, so it can't hurt to try the heating pad and see if that helps. Thanks for the idea!
She doesn't like baths but needs them because she smells so bad (bladder leaks). We have stairs and I can't get her up the stairs without lots of help. My 22 yr. old is coming over today to help us give her a bath.
I tried a massage a few months ago as our dog PT recommended it but she wasn't a fan. I should try again. Thanks! She has lost most of the muscle in her back legs as she hasn't been able to use her left leg since Oct. and her right leg since Dec.
Thanks for your suggestions! I appreciate them and often forget other options as I keep busy with her day to day care.
Our dog didn’t do much like massages either, but now that he’s used to them, we can go deep into his muscles and joints and roll his fur/skin. He loves it now and it settles him down every time. He’s been squeaking and pacing doing circles, couldn’t sit/lay comfortably lately because of joint pain/arthritis —he was doing it this morning and I got down on the floor and made him come over and I started in on his hind quarters and worked towards his toes and back up through his butt, back, spine, and he’s still sleeping right where I left him 2 hours ago! He tore right through his meniscus in 2020, a $5000 surgery and lots of rehab. He’s 16 years old and still thinks he’s a pup, but cannot always successfully maneuver steps. Try massage, it’s free and it’s both therapeutic for the dog and yourself! ❤️ Thank you so much! I hope it works as well as it does for you! That's an expensive surgery, and rehab is expensive too. I'm glad your dog is doing better.

It's been a rough few months. My German Shepherd has degenerative mylopathy and can no longer use her back legs. She has a lot of accidents and we have a special harness to lift her. It's all so hard, but she has started whining around late afternoon until 11:00pm or later. It's just very sad and stressful. I take care of her all day, so get nothing done around the house. The whining is very hard as there is nothing we do that makes it better. She is only 9 yrs. old and is such a good dog. Have you tried massage for your dog? Or a heating pad under a blanket he lays on? Or warm baths? My DM facebook group says dogs with DM can't control their body temp very well and often pant because they are too warm. That they like a fan on them. But that doesn't always work, so it can't hurt to try the heating pad and see if that helps. Thanks for the idea!

Oh well. I had a patient the other night, with COVID pneumonia, telling me he was anti-vax and only wants natural remedies. Then why the fuck you here getting antibiotics and steroids... But whatever. How frustrating! Why did he bother going to the hospital if he only wanted natural remedies? I don't know how health care workers do it. Thank you for all that you do!

I have to say that before the pandemic, I honestly had no idea how many stupid people there are. It’s really frightening. Same here. Before Trump and the covid pandemic, I thought most people were smart, good and would do what they could to help others. I don't believe that anymore.

The whining is very hard as there is nothing we do that makes it better. She is only 9 yrs. old and is such a good dog. I really really feel for you. Our lab had luxating patillas - basically the grooves in her knees wasn't deep enough for the ligament to hold in place, so it kept popping out. This started when she was 6 months old and after 5 surgeries before she was 1, we finally decided enough. We just couldn't keep affording surgeries (we had just been married ourselves) and we didn't feel it was fair to her either. We brought her home and helped her enjoy the life she had left. Which was about 11 more years! BUT we always took her out using a sling to help lift and control her back legs. It was exhausting and we felt so guilty that she never went on walks or played ball, but oh she loved being with us, and was a happy pup who just lived a different way. Hugs to you all. That's amazing that she lived so long with her knee problems. She was lucky to have a family that was able to care for her so much! Sadie's therapies, vet bills, medication and all the carpet pet protectors, etc. have really added up. So I completely understand the expense and exhaustion.

Thanks for asking. The only thing that is good is that this is not supposed to be painful. But the disease makes them more prone to UTIs, and other issues, so we are always on the lookout for both. She does underwater treadmill and laser therapy once a week (although we just stopped underwater treadmill as it was just too much). She was diagnosed in Sept. and we were told they live 55 days without treatment. The laser is supposed to give them 18-36 months more. She also knuckles her feet so gets really bad sores. We now put socks and boots and bags on her back feet each time we take her out to protect her feet and it is very time consuming, but really helps!

So happy for them! What a cute cat. I was never much of a cat person until my middle daughter recused an 8 yr. old cat in Aug. when she got her first job/apt. Then my grad student daughter rescued two cats in the fall. They all stayed with us for a month over Christmas and I just adore them!

I’ve never really had a problem with standing out or being different 🤷🏻♀️ When it comes to masks, all I’m looking at is, is it required. If there wasn’t notification that it was required, I wouldn’t think twice or feel awkward about not putting one on regardless of what other people are doing. Would you think twice if you found out you were an asymptomatic carrier who put someone in the hospital or helped kill them? Not knowing is a selfish luxury. And I’m out. Yesterday I got so worked up about vaccinated people in some areas of the country not getting needed surgeries or medical care because of anti-vaxxers clogging hospitals, that my head exploded. Only one explosion allowed per week. 💥 I agree with you! If they don't want to get vaccinated, then stay out of the hospital. Why would they think vaccine is dangerous, but all the covid treatments, ventilators, etc. is perfectly safe? I hate that people can't have much needed surgeries because of the unvaccinated. It's not fair because it would have been easy to avoid if they just got the vaccine. It really doesn't hurt, and I am a baby about shots.

I retired 1/5/22. That is the bridge I used twice a day on my commute. Typically I was crossing that bridge at 655am, meeting the PAT bus along the way. That is terrifying. On the commute home, often sitting on the bridge because of traffic. I could feel the bridge “give a little” as other cars drove by. So thankful that there were only minor injuries. So thankful I am retired. Glad you weren't on the bridge today. How scary to feel the bridge give a little as you sat in traffic. I don't think I have been on that bridge.

I never hears of that, where can you but it? What do you mean by half and half? Do you make regular lemonade, then do half water and half lemonade? We get the Torani at Smart and Final but you can find it at grocery stores by the coffee and tea. If you add heavy cream, it's an italian soda. Just a note- avoid the mint flavors. They're not good in the water. LOL I use the bottles of lemonade from Costco. You can also make fizzy orange and fizzy grape and fizzy apple. Any juice. Make it half fizzy water and half juice. I REALLY like the lemonade, fizzy water, blue raspberry torani. Also any flavor with vanilla is yummy too! Thanks for the information! So I can just put lemonade or apple juice into the bottle instead of water and it still works? Can't wait to try!

I am about 75% done with The Night Swim by Megan Goldin which is holding my attention! What is your name on goodreads (if you want to share)?

Nurses too, there are nurses graduating from school who were literally locked out of hospitals and taught via zoom. They’ll have a steep learning curve after they get hired especially considering the burnt out, post traumatic stressed existing staff will have little give when they need mentors. Probably similar with teachers I know you have not had an easy time either. My daughter graduated in April and her spring semester of junior year and her senior year were lacking so much in person experience. Her classmates are so disappointed in how their jobs are going. My daughter quit her hospital job after 6 months because it was too stressful. Her orientation was shortened by over 2 weeks. Instead of having 3-4 patients, she was having 6-7 patients. So many nurses left. She was told that she came in at a bad time, and no wonder the new nurses aren't happy. The other nurses told her it used to be much better. She is now in a pediatric office, something she told me she never wanted to do. She wanted a hospital setting. Her roommate also quit a hospital job for a pediatric office.
I feel so bad for all the teachers and health care workers and anyone else that is going through this staff shortage and disrespect (from the unvaccinated).
