This is what we are dealing with from the right. More examples in the comments. I watched a bunch of these Truly terrifying. These folks are ready to shoot us all down. As in kill us. Again, no both sides whataboutism. The rest of us do not match this level of 'kill your fellow citizens' by a country mile. We do not match it at all. We don't even go there because we don't have that level of hate filled vitriol towards anyone who doesn't bend the knee for Trump. Summer of 2020 we had looting, cops attacked, cars destroyed, aggressive intimidation and harassment by people with a large mob backing them up- intimidation of people minding their own business eating outside at restaurants, people getting IN their face and screaming aggressively at them to "say his name", they had no idea the person they were screaming at was on their side nor do I think they cared, grabbing a seat at someone's table at another place -eating their food, drinking their drink and daring them to do anything (once again, with a giant mob behind them threatening them) same thing just walking by outside diners at another, attempted murder by arson, actual murder by arson, Billions of dollars of damage to cities, etc. A state senator and his wife were mobbed by a threatening crowd screaming at him to "say her name", the cops could barely protect them as they made their way out of a building but they would not have survived without police presence. These were all DISMISSED AS "MOSTLY PEACEFUL" here. And mocking and fighting anyone who objected to all of the violence, death and destruction that was happening all across the country. We've had republicans shot at at a baseball game, 5 shot including Steve Scalise who, 5 years later is still doing physical therapy. We've had a US representative calling for mobs to gather around citizens. After that we've had a long list of people, including children physically assaulted for nothing more than wearing a red hat. So it sure does look like both sides.

Oh I see. Double standards. It's OK for conservatives to use whataboutisms but you object when liberals do it. Any whataboutism is OK if you're conservative but what about Trump is unacceptable. Got it. Just stop. Really. I'm not the one that has a problem with whataboutism, only that I got hand slapped for doing it last year and now you all suddenly have no problem doing it and you want to turn it back on me now. This a link to ALL of my posts with "whataboutism" mentioned. Scroll all the way to the bottom and see who started all of this whataboutism BS. It wasn't me. It was you. link
Why can't you just have a normal conversation? Like a normal human being?

I'm not defending her, I'm advocating for just a little bit of critical thinking. I also wasn't the one to bring up the whataboutism, just responding to it. How do you explain the crowd cheering to that? Possibly they understood that she meant to say "right to life" and just let the stumble go? I have never heard of her until this, but I have a hard time believing that even if she is a white supremacist, why would she bother to say that out loud in a speech if she's just going to back track on it when someone calls it out? And she seems intelligent enough to have put some thought into it while supposedly writing those words in her speech, to know someone would, especially in this political climate. I understand I could be wrong about her, but the thought process attributed to her meaning to say that just doesn't make sense to me.

Yes, she said that. Apparently it was a slip over "right to life". "A historic victory for white life." Doesn't even make sense. It isnt. It doesnt even have anything to do with race, so she would not have said it. "A historic victory for right to life." does make sense. As far as Biden's stutter... A stutter doesn't make you forget that you're running for president and not for senate. Twice. A stutter doesn't make you ramble on and reminisce about letting kids playing with your leg hair decades ago. A stutter doesn't make you read the stage directions from the teleprompter. A stutter doesn't make you keep admitting that "they" won't let you take questions, to say that "they" are going to be mad at him. A stutter doesn't make you forget words, concepts, people's names and that this is the Biden presidency, not the Harris presidency. A stutter doesn't make you say "We're in the process of deciding what I think." in response to a reporter's question. There's a reason why even most democrats don't want him to run again. So, I know that logical fallacies (whataboutism, in this case) are your thing, but you're doing nothing here but defending a white supremacist MAGA maniac. This is not new news. Ol' girl hangs with MTG and this is not her first so-called gaffe when it comes to white supremacist rhetoric. So, I know you think you're doing something here, but you really are just demonstrating that you align with facists. Congrats, I guess? Now go chew on jeans. I'm not defending her, I'm advocating for just a little bit of critical thinking. I also wasn't the one to bring up the whataboutism, just responding to it.

Nah, I wouldn't say that about my mentions of it. Looking at my post history, I've never said the word until it was brought up by someone else. Then just like right now, all of my mentions have been in response to someone else bringing up the word as you did here. You have a point. It was a brief discussion, and you were responding to someone else. You did not appear to be a fan. Apologies for my lack of quoting skills. Jun 25, 2014 at 4:22pm huskergal said: For the peas who don't like the "Whataboutism", it is a forever fact of life. Obama got brought up constantly during the Trump presidency. It is what it is. You: It was NEVER acceptable when it came from conservatives. It was labeled as deflection, trolling, crazy, derailing the thread and all around demonized as nothing but a tactic. Interesting how it's now acceptable when it suits your deflection and tactics. And here: Jan 28, 2022 at 9:54am pixiechick said: I wasn't here then. If you all don't like it when conservatives did it and "you" tried to put a stop to it then, why is it suddenly acceptable now? Huskergal: I never said it was acceptable. I said it is what it is. It isn't going to change. As long as people are going to call out the sitting President for a behavior that the previous President did, and they didn't call out the previous President, whataboutism isn't going to change. Crap, Hillary got brought up by Trumpers and she wasn't even the President. You: You don't have to say it. When it was always called out with major piles-ons whenever a conservative did it and most aren't calling it out now, it IS acceptance. As has been stated just recently, silence is acceptance. So, hardly a tear. I misspoke. Certainly disapproval comes through. I will concede that whataboutisms have become part of the political discourse.Only since the Left wants to use it. When anyone on the Right did, the overwhelming majority (Left) would not allow it to be. So yeah, that's where the disapproval you're picking up comes from.

It might be if I was the one that brought the subject of the 2020 riots to this thread. That would be Merge. Page 2, post 13. What I said before about it is that it's been the Left here for years, dismissing any and all comparisons coming from the Right as "whataboutism". So with the current proliferation of "whataboutism coming from the Left, you can see now that, it seems to be okay if the Left does it. They just don't allow it from the Right. No hypocrisy there. I might be misremembering, but I thought that you went on a tear about whataboutism not long ago. But maybe that was someone else. 🤔 I don't think what I said was "going on a tear", but let me clarify... What does going on a tear mean to you?

The police didn't shoot David Dorn for defending his friend's pawn shop. The police didn't didn't burn another pawn shop down with Oscar Stewart a father of 5, inside. The police didn't burn a federal courthouse and run a police station out of a community that needed it. The police didn't attack the police and cause hundreds of injuries. The police didn't loot, trash, burn and destroy all the businesses, many of them black owned. The police didn't cause billions in damages across the country. You're one that EXCUSED, deflected and dismissed the violence, death and destruction of 2020 when you agreed with the protest, who is now demanding outrage from conservatives over a protest you disagree with. Stop defending the violence and your breath taking hypocrisy. Correct me if I’m wrong-and I know that you will- but I was under the impression that you disliked whataboutism. Is what you wrote not whataboutism? This thread, after all, is about Canadian trucker protests. It might be if I was the one that brought the subject of the 2020 riots to this thread. Another false premise, false comparison and false equivalency. Which is exactly why most of the time you get called out for your whataboutisms. Calling conservatives out for whataboutisms as "nothing but deflection, trolling, crazy, derailing the thread and all around demonized as nothing but a tactic and then the Left turning around and doing it themselves is spot on equal comparison. Silence on your part when trump did something inexcusable is acceptance. And again, there's no expiration date on criticizing him, he continues to say reprehensible things. And you continue to remain silent, you've been silent for 5 years. I have not been silent about him for 5 years. I don't agree with every assessment posted about him, but when I do agree with the assessment, I have said so, OR "for any number of reasons, I don't read every thread, or perhaps it wasn't something to get worked up over." And which is it, you were here years ago or not? Just recently you claimed to be here during the Clinton scandal. I was on the old board and I've been here since this one started up. I was not here when conservatives were complaining about whataboutisms from the Left. You seem confused about what I said and confused that I wasn't here when I said I was, which Clinton scandal are you talking about that I "said I was here for"?

You said: "I have become increasingly disappointed with peas on "my side." The hypocrisy and whataboutisms are out of hand, don't do anyone any good, and I see it here all the time. It would be lovely to have discussions without them." I'm not really sure how those of us who disagreed with you were supposed to take that. What I saw, not unreasonably I think, is that you'd gone from censuring Biden to censuring those who aren't willing to call him to task for this incident. And then you made the comment that you'd rather have discussions without us. Perhaps you can clarify. I don't want to speak for Michy but I read her "them" not as people, but the whataboutisms. I don't want to have discussions without people who disagree with me. But I'd like to have a discussion without comparing everything to Trump. Me, not speaking for Michy. I would like to believe that Trump was an outlier and is not the new standard for behavior. We can all stand to do better. With that said, I was bothered by Biden's comment, but I can understand where it came from and I give him kudos for owning it and apologizing. Everyone gets heated from time to time. And that's my opinion on the matter. He did NOT apologize. "it's nothing personal, pal" is not an apology. Would you accept that as a real apology from Trump? And if its honestly a different question would you accept that as a real apology from any republican? The hypocrisy and whataboutisms are out of hand, don't do anyone any good, and I see it here all the time. It would be lovely to have discussions without them." I don't speak for Michy either, but I'm pretty sure this is the point she was making. You quoted 3 sentences. You'd have to completely ignore the sentence in the middle to make the mistake? leap? that you made.

Talk about doddering - but it's drugs, not old age. The dude needs help. Hunter was a raging drug addict. With Hunter we know for certain it was drugs. Do we KNOW it's drugs with Jr? Or is it idiotically tweeting while drinking? I agree. But it’s a tiny blip for me. I do think that he needs to talk more about how inflation is a worldwide problem, and give updates on supply chain shortages. He could have taken it as an opportunity to reassure Americans about it. Instead, he decided to stoop to a level supposedly beneath him. I think if he said it directly to the reporter intentionally in a room full of reporters, I might feel differently. But, if the reporters were leaving and he kind of said it under his breath? I'm OK with that and willing to give him a pass, as long as he doesn't make a regular habit of it. He DID say it intentionally. HE chose those words and chose to say them. And I don't think it makes it better. Integrity is doing the right thing, even when you think no one is watching. Or listening in this case. He was given an opportunity to reassure Americans about inflation and the choice HE made was to insult a reporter instead. He actually does make a habit of snapping at reporters and people. He did several times during his campaign, he did it at this press conference, he did it last week to a reporter and I believe there was another one last week or the week before. So he doesn't deserve a pass based on the idea that he doesn't make a habit of it, because he clearly does make a habit of it. I don’t really care that it happened though because him calling to apologize just elevates him. No deflecting, no blaming others, no pretending it didn’t happen or that it was okay. That’s how we teach our children - when you’re in the wrong, and you absolutely will be at times because you are human, you humble yourself and apologize. He didn't apologize. His words "it's nothing personal, pal" is not an apology and sure does make it seem like he thinks it was okay. I don't recall Fox news ever calling out Trump. Do you watch Fox news? I've heard them call him out many, many, many times in the last 5-6 years. I have become increasingly disappointed with peas on "my side." The hypocrisy and whataboutisms are out of hand, don't do anyone any good, and I see it here all the time. It would be lovely to have discussions without them. This. SO MUCH THIS. And the fact that Biden actually called afterward to apologize more than redeems the slight infraction. Biden actually called afterward to apologize more than redeems the slight infraction. Especially since he apologized later. It’s just providing a little clearer picture who this guy is. He made a mistake, took responsibility and called to apologize. "It's nothing personal, pal." is not an apology by any stretch of the imagination.

I never suggested that DeSantis possibly having covid was anything other than an opinion, guess or speculation. DeSantis going to a ball game isn’t a problem, it’s just inconsistent with his excuse that he was taking care of his family. His sudden disappearance without any communication or advance notice is curious. But, go ahead and continue to defend him. If Cruz is the only Republican you’re willing to criticize after I posted a long list of Republicans guilty of hypocrisy, I’m not interested in a discussion about DeSantis or AOC. But, you might want to examine your own hypocrisy before you call out AOC. During time off for cancer care and the holidays, it's not unreasonable to take a break from the stress and go to a game to enjoy life for a moment. It doesn't mean it's inconsistent with taking care of his wife and kids. I also don't feel obligated to respond to your expanded list of whataboutisms in order to have an honest discussion. I agreed with the last whataboutism and you dismissed it as meaningless, so why bother. You can't seem to honestly discuss without constantly moving the goalposts and ever expanding lists of whataboutisms for me (or whoever) to jump through hoops for. You don't seem to want an honest discussion, you seem to want conformity.

Nope, I’m just tired of arguing with you. It’s a waste of time. And I’m fairly certain that everyone here knows your tactics, the Republican playbook - gaslight, lie, spin, deflect, false comparison, false premise, false equivalency, whataboutisms etc. As far as vaccine mandates, here’s the 3rd part that matters. If Republicans spent as much time encouraging their base to get vaccinated as they do fighting mask mandates and vaccine mandates, we would not be in the current situation. Republican politicians need to get out of the way, stop promoting misinformation, step up and do the right thing to save the lives of the unvaccinated - primarily their voters. Speaking of tactics... Whenever people say truths you don't want to hear but you don't have a valid debate, you resort to personal attacks and try to bring "others" in to back up your bullshit. And I disagree that the mandates are working. They're causing even more distrust along with the other alienating and shady policies. We're losing valuable people in extremely important areas because of the mandates.

I wouldn't count on Merge to explain something with anything that resembles the reality of what took place. She seems to be trying to break a record or something between her and another pea in how much they can restate what was actually said into some version that no longer resembles anything close to what was said in reality in order to argue with the non reality version. I think you're the one out of touch with reality. You're in complete denial of systematic racism and you keep repeating the erroneous belief that everyone has the same opportunities and can pull themselves up by the bootstraps. And you can be counted on to ask questions without good faith, to ignore evidence that doesn't fit your narrative, change the goal posts, provide anecdotes as evidence, gaslighting, missing the forest for the trees, false comparisons, false equivalencies, whataboutisms and arguing semantics. Also guilty of frequently calling out Democrats but never calling out Republicans. And guilty of having different standards -providing evidence from sources with a clear bias like Fox and even more right leaning ones but disputing articles posted by others from more neutral sources like AP and NPR. Also double standards when it comes to evidence - you don't have to provide any, we should just take your word for it but you dismiss others that don't provide evidence. Then, when someone provides it, you find a way to dismiss it. Before you ask - nope, I'm not providing evidence. There's plenty - just look at your search history or mine. I have called you out for all of the above. Specifically regarding the NH divisive concepts bill, you keep ignoring all of the evidence that we have shown of the intended consequences of the law, including a bounty offered by a conservative group to turn in teachers for teaching divisive concepts. Your interpretation of the law is irrelevant. and can pull themselves up by the bootstraps. I NEVER said that. When you can't respond to me without dealing with the words I've actually said and have to argue something I didn't say, anything YOU have to say is inconsequential to ANY discussion.

And we the taxpayers paid to fly Obama back and forth to Hawaii. More costly than to Florida. And of course the times he and Michelle chose not to fly together. And it was defended here. So the objections now, ring hollow. Your objections to Biden’s mental acuity ring hollow after your silence and even defense of Trumps stupid, ignorant statements. And you absolutely defended former’s dangerous stupid suggestion to study the injection of bleach. Beyond trying to clarify exactly what he said, you never called out the danger and recklessness of his statement. Even when it was pointed out that the statistics showed more people were poisoned by bleach after his statement, you continued to defend it. Conservatives love whataboutisms except when they’re used on them. Your objections to Biden’s mental acuity ring hollow after your silence and even defense of Trumps stupid, ignorant statements. I never defended a single stupid or ignorant statement. If you seriously think I did, then link it. Don't give some vague summation of what you think I said, link the exact place I did. I did, however correct misinformation being spread here and backed it up with information from Left leaning sites. But aside from that, bringing up Trump doesn't actually hide the issue of Biden's mental decline like you think it does. No one gives a damn how you parse the words.* The fact is that Biden is attempting to go around the first amendment by using big tech to silence free speech. That is horrifying and if they succeed in weaponizing Facebook/Twitter/etc. to blow up the first amendment what are you going to do when a Republican gets in office and uses it to shut you up and push their own horrifying narrative or agenda? *Although I would say that Biden is in fact "uniting" with Facebook. That is what Jen Psaki described. I may have, if I agreed with the assessment. You'd have to show a specific issue you're talking about, because in general I either have when I agreed that he was wrong, or didn't agree with the conclusion the Peas came to, or thought enough people covered it so I didn't say anything. or wasn't around at the time. OK, just to clarify. The White House is drawing attention to posts that are false or misleading. They are not marking the posts or removing them. Your first amendment rights are not protected online on a platform owned by a private company. In addition, speech that is dangerous and false is not protected. There is no proof that the virus came from the lab in Wuhan, they are still investigating. If information regarding the vaccine changes, Facebook can change its policy on vaccine misinformation posts then. Facebook changed its policy regarding the origin of the virus as the information changed. There's no reason for Facebook to stop flagging or removing posts with vaccine misinformation or falsehoods because information might change. The White House working with facebook is still not merging. There is no combining, uniting, coalescing or blending. www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/mergingDefinition of merge transitive verb 1 : to cause to combine, unite, or coalesce (see COALESCE sense 2) merged the two companies 2 : to blend gradually by stages that blur distinctions individuality and uniqueness are merged and blurred — Norman Kelman 3 archaic : to plunge or engulf in something : IMMERSE If you think the Biden Administration is acting authoritarian, why didn't you call out former when he did exactly that? I don’t think anyone criticized Trump for Operation Warp Speed, except for perhaps , a poor choice of a name. How much credit does he really deserve for developing the vaccine vs the scientists that worked around the clock? And Pfizer had other funding to develop the vaccine. www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/11/24/938591815/pfizers-coronavirus-vaccine-supply-contract-excludes-many-taxpayer-protectionseta- If Republicans are whining that former didn’t get enough credit for the vaccine, perhaps it’s because Trump himself for once didn’t brag about the accomplishment. Instead, he focused on election fraud and rallies for the last months of his term. Overall, Trump badly mishandled the pandemic from the beginning. He mostly downplayed and ignored it, costing thousands of lives. Anything that he did accomplish like Operation Warp Speed was mostly a credit to others and a bare minimum that you would expect from an administration. So, no I don’t think he deserves a lot of credit for that. And this is a stupid argument - however, if he did community outreach to get the vaccine out to Americans, Democrats would have been shocked. Because that effort shows compassion and empathy, something he was sorely lacking. It's funny how you say you don't think anyone criticized him for Operation Warp Speed and then repeatedly criticize him for it. And yes, it IS a stupid argument. Left leaning Peas constantly make observations like the one that was made twice by a couple of other conservatives on this thread. Yet, Merge came along and tried to shut it down by being insulting and rude AND saying it was already discussed. As if she was in charge of the direction of the thread and what could be discussed on it. As if she couldn't possibly let people make observations she doesn't agree with. Ha, ha facts. Very funny. Your twisted version, perhaps and whataboutisms and false comparisons. Everything I stated in that list is completely true and not twisted in the slightest. Your point about loyalty is really unclear. Do you really need links or examples of how former demanded complete loyalty? No. I never asked for general examples. I spoke of Trumps Loyalty Day and someone expanded to the topic of loyalty to him, in an attempt to dismiss the fact they didn't like. Are you poking fun at Presidents Biden’s loyalty day proclamation? Personally, I much prefer President Biden’s perspective on loyalty. What in the world did I say that made you think I was?

Based on hundreds... thousands? of the things that it's okay if you're a democrat -but if it's Trump... “a shitstorm of angry democrats”. All claiming he's Hitler and they're terrified and for the cherry on top, you're a racist if you disagree with their assessment. *Kamala outright said, she wouldn't take the vaccine if Trump suggested it. But now that Biden is in office that exact same vaccine is just fine. *The left leaning media all called it the Wuhan Virus because it came from Wuhan, until Trump said it because it came from Wuhan and then magically it was racist. *Trump calling out Loyalty Day is a terrifying thing to do despite it being a proclamation made by every single president since the 50s *Kids in the holding facilities that Obama had built are SUDDENLY "kids in cages" when Trump takes office, and SUDDENLY like magic, those same exact cages revert back to facilities when Biden takes office. *Democrats all call for upgrading the border wall and yet when Trump does, it's suddenly racist to say what the Democrats said. *Trump calls for a peaceful protest to "make your voices peacefully and patriotically heard" and he's inciting violence. Maxine Waters calls for actual "harassment of political opponents" and it's excused as "just encouraging people to speak out" and "use their right to protest". So, yes, I have no doubt there would have been “a shitstorm of angry democrats” if Trump had done it.
I can’t believe you’re even defending former. He’s a racist because he didn’t just call it the Wuhan virus, he called it the Kung Flu virus. He did it repeatedly because he wanted to shift the focus from his terrible mishandling to blaming China. He also called Mexicans rapists and referred African countries as sh&thole countries and he defended white supremicists. Your whataboutisms don’t work, they’re all based on false comparisons. www.npr.org/2020/06/22/881810671/white-house-defends-trumps-use-of-racist-term-to-describe-coronavirusAnd no there would not have been an angry sh#tstorm of Democrats and Democrats would not have lost their damn minds if Trump sent people door to door. There was an angry sh$tstorm every time he did or said something stupid, offensive or racist. But, if he actually did something to stop the spread of the virus, Democrats would have been shocked. Operation Warp Speed was initiated under Trump.

If Trump had of suggested doing anything like this, I wouldn’t be angry, no. Fallen off my chair in shock and still down for the count? Probably. This particular version of the Republican Party *never* would’ve done it though, so any theorizing he would or whataboutism is just another bad faith argument. As opposed to this good faith argument: Oh good, dumb and dumber have shown up. Bat phone up and running again?
