Walter Shaub..
”the impeachment trial in 280 characters:
—the content of Schiff's blistering presentation on Trump's dangerous corruption is horrifying
—the Republican majority does not want witnesses or documents
—despite having sworn an impartiality oath, many Republican Senators are absent”

“If the trial goes for a long time, often [jurors] don’t collect their paycheck from that and are given a meager amount of money relative to what some of those people might make,” Hayes said on the air Wednesday evening. “This is literally [senators’] job. If you find it too annoying or frustrating or uncomfortable to sit for eight hours and listen, you can resign tomorrow and go get another job.”I agree! I've heard that they're extremely uncomfortable, bored, etc. etc. with having to sit and actually listen-- as opposed to using their phones to tweet, do other business with each other, and all manner of other things BESIDES listening to the actual discussion going on in front of them. What some news commentators said is that this is actually the first time some of the Senators have actually HEARD some of the information about Trump and the Ukraine scheme. Which is just CRAZY to me-- if they aren't debating any legislation (because Moscow Mitch is holding it all hostage) then what do they actually DO all day long, anyway? IMO, they should never be allowed to have their phones in the chambers with them. Maybe then, the Senate would have to actually debate some of the House-passed bills instead of just letting them all sit there, languish, and die!! ETA: I heard this morning that one Republican senator actually did an interview with Sean Hannity outside the chambers last evening- shouldn't he be censured (at the very least) for doing that?!? He broke his oath! Kick him off the jury!!!

These are the Senators who left during Schiff's presentation:
Lindsey Graham Bill Cassidy Jim Reich Marsha Blackburn Roy Blunt Shelley Moore Capito Kevin Cramer Jerry Moran David Perdue Rob Portman Pat Roberts Ben Sass Todd Young
I believe that both Portman and Blackburn gave interviews while the Impeachment Hearing was in session, and not during any breaks.
Apparently Roberts doesn't care either.
Smething I need to remember next time I do Judy Duty. Just wander in and out at will, since it is allowed by the highest Court in the land.

I cannot understand how any intelligent, or even semi intelligent person, can watch the videos they are showing, read the word for word quotes from calls and emails, and think, "What a freaking HOAX!" This is not people lying and making shit up.
I cannot understand how 20 years ago, people who thought a president who lied about getting a blow job should be removed from office, but those same people listen to all of this and think it's a witch hunt/hoax and that Trump did nothing wrong.
I do not see how our country/government will ever be the same after this. How will we recover from this bullshit?
and held a 7 (?) week long trial regarding lying about above mentioned blow job and feel this trial, with actual more serious charges and consequences, should just be dismissed or very be short, no witnesses, nothing to see here, move along. That in itself tells me they sure as hell aren't seeking to find the truth regardless of if the truth should lead to his removal. Just don't want to hear it. Ok, then. as per lucyg "Doomed" as far as Lindsey Graham leaving the trial, I think the coward that is hiding something, knew his mug, videos and his past contradicting statements were coming. Slime ball couldn't be around for that.

I can't help but think that somewhere out there are this era's Woodward and Bernstein. I keep telling myself that...the US government did not bring down Richard Nixon. Republicans back then called it a witch hunt. And two journalists brought down a crooked president, in the days before 24 hour news and the internet.
I hope and pray there is a Woodward and Bernstein out there. There has to be, right?
No, there have been tons of journalists with tons of information that would have taken down a crooked president. If the people don't believe it or even refuse to look at it, what does it matter? Trump is a crooked president, but his supporter are what will bring down the country. because all their fearful leader has to do is utter the words "fake news" and they fall in line. "Yeah, fake news!" all the while only watching and absorbing the echo chamber that is Fox "news". I heard someone call in on radio stating that everything the Dems are presenting are lies, all lies. All they do is lie. Well is all you tuned into was Fox it would turn into your truth. Or at least what you thought and/or want it to be. I may have mentioned this before, but since his election and watching his rabid followers I thought the only thing that would take him down would be something like the scene in "The Candidate" starring Martin Sheen. He too was awful and when he used his own toddler son as a shield from a would be assassin at a rally his followers finally saw him for who he was. I showed or told my DS about the old film and he response was that he wasn't sure that would even do it with with trumsters as "obviously he had to do it because his life is more important to save the rest or us, or some BS" I'm afraid he might be right. Same with the GOP backers. Which reminds me of this tweet that sadly rang with some truth to it:

I am not supporting them, however there was a Senator on earlier this morning who stated that they cannot read the tweets, notes and emails on the screens, too small and also bad angles. There are screens with the C-span feed in the LBJ room right off the Senate Chambers. I think he also said there might be coffee in there too. I did hear someone say today that they do have some of the paperwork available on their desks. Maybe that was to address the screen issue. Of course some of them are being jerks. Doubtful Roberts will be doing anything about it at all! Shame on him! (Slowly losing respect here!) The Democrats better stay in their seats when they should before they say too much about the others!

Amy Siskin...
”As Schiff finished up his roughly three-hour presentation, there were as many as two dozen Republican senators out of their seats at once — a clear violation of the rules that bar senators from leaving their seats during the trial."
Michael Bromwich...
“Imagine if trial jurors left their seats, played with fidget spinners, gave interviews during the trial, or passed notes to each other. They would be held in contempt by any trial judge in the country. CJ Roberts could at a minimum remind the senators of the rules.”
This is nothing but disrespect for the proceedings outlined in the Constitution.

Sheen plays the candidate in The Dead Zone thus the repeated mix up. Probably won't be the last time either.😉. That scene, regardless of movie title, remains entwined with trump in my brain.

I mean, really- "heads on pikes!?!" DT's 'reign' in office is starting to sound more and more like things that crazy, drunk-with-power Circei Lanister would do or say.

MSNBC...
”You can trust he will do what's right for Donald Trump," Rep. Schiff argues. "This is why, if you find him guilty, you must find that he should be removed. Because right matters. Because right matters. And the truth matters. Otherwise we are lost."
Not if you are a Republican. Not if you are planning on voting for trump. It’s becoming increasingly clear none of this matters.

You aren’t the only one wondering.. Chris Lu.. ”Who talks like this? How about the person who asked a foreign leader to "do a favor." Or the person whose staff is telling Republican senators: “Vote against the President and your head will be on a pike.” Or the person who called his former attorney a "rat." #MobBoss”

Someone ought to nudge Roberts every now and then to see if he’s still alive. The only real authority a chief justice has in an impeachment trial is to enforce the rules. If he can’t or won’t even do that, then he’s useless.

If so, I hope it comes back to night them in the butt.

Update on the "take her out" ABC is talking about the recording which was supposedly made by Igor Fruman, Lev's indicted friend! An audio recording that has been reviewed by ABC News purportedly catches President Donald Trump demanding the firing of former American ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch. According to ABC News, the recording was made in April 2018, which was more than a year before Yovanovitch was finally ousted from her position. Additionally, ABC News reports that the recording was made by Igor Fruman, the now-indicted henchman of Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who captured the president’s voice during a private dinner where he also met with Fruman’s co-conspirator, Lev Parnas. Trump’s tirade against Yovanovitch came after both Fruman and Parnas had informed the president that the ambassador was known to say nasty things about it, which prompted Trump to demand her dismissal. “Get rid of her!” a voice that is apparently Trump’s says in the recording. “Get her out tomorrow. I don’t care. Get her out tomorrow. Take her out. Okay? Do it.”Ironically, Parnas also claimed that Yovanovitch routinely badmouthed the president by predicting that he would get impeached — a prediction that has now come true thanks in part to Trump’s firing of Yovanovitch. Despite Trump’s demands, however, it would still be another year before Yovanovitch was recalled. Giuliani apparently makes reference to how long it took to actually get the ambassador fired in a text to Parnas in which he says, “Please don’t tell anyone I can’t get the crooked Ambassador fired or I did three times and she’s still there.” ** www.rawstory.com/2020/01/take-her-out-leaked-audio-purportedly-catches-trump-demanding-firing-of-marie-yovanovitch/?utm_source=&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=3574&recip_id=304309&list_id=1Looking farther............

From ABC NEWS. The identities of others participating in the recorded conversation are unclear. During an early portion of the recording where video can be seen, Donald Trump Jr. appears on the recording posing for pictures with others. Sources say they were attending a larger event happening at the hotel that night for a super PAC that supports the president. Another clip seen on the recording, according to the sources, is of individuals entering what appears to be a suite at the Trump Hotel for the intimate dinner. The phone that was recording the Trump conversation appears to be placed down on a table with the audio still recording the conversation between the commander-in-chief and other guests, according to the sources. The image of the president does not appear on the video reviewed by ABC News. In a recent interview with MSNBC, Parnas publicly recounted his memories of the scene at the dinner and said that Trump turned to John [DeStefano], who was his deputy chief of staff at the time, and said "Fire her," he claimed. "We all, there was a silence in the room. He responded to him, said Mr. President, we can't do that right now because [Secretary of State Mike] Pompeo hasn't been confirmed yet, that Pompeo is not confirmed yet and we don't have -- this is when [former Secretary of State Rex] Tillerson was gone, but Pompeo was confirmed, so they go, wait until -- so several conversations he mentioned it again." However, Pompeo had been confirmed and privately sworn in days earlier. A copy of the recording is now in the custody of federal prosecutors in New York's Southern District, who declined to comment to ABC News.**More at link: abcnews.go.com/Politics/recording-appears-capture-trump-private-dinner-ukraine-ambassador/story?id=68506437
