1-21-2019 UpdateNPR..”NEW: Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s effort to get the Senate to subpoena documents from White House and other administration officials related to the Ukraine matter failed in a party-line vote.”I knew the Republicans plan was to acquit trump and do it by not allowing any new evidence or witnesses. Even though new evidence has come to light and even though the trump administration stopped key people from testifying. But when push came to shove I was kind of hoping that in the end the Republicans would put country over trump. I guess it’s not going to happen. Pushing through the acquittal without reviewing all the evidence and or hearing testimony from all parties involved will leave the country more divided then ever because we won’t get to the truth. If trump has done nothing wrong as he claims, then he would have personally driven Bolton, Pompeo, & the others to the steps of the Capital Building to testify instead throwing up roadblocks, now with help from the Republican Senators. By not allowing these key individuals to testify, it’s clear he’s hiding something yet again. And the Republicans are counting on the American People not caring. And they are probably right in assuming this will happen because more then likely those who help stonewalled the trial will be re-elected as their reward for keeping the truth from the American People. **************************************************************** Today the Articles of Impeachment were accepted by the Senate. Next step is the trial. McConnell’s goal, and he has been very open about it, is to acquit trump with the minimum amount of fuss. No matter what. Meaning no new witnesses. trump has claimed he is innocent of any wrongdoing. Yet he refuses to let members of his administration, current and former, testify to prove his innocence. Nor has the administration turned over any documents requested by the House. This is the Republicans in the House position tweeted out by Kevin McCarthy... ”The reason for this impeachment is the same reason it has taken Democrats 30 days to send the articles to the Senate—SPITE. They want to stain President Trump’s record without giving him a fair chance to clear his name.”Three things have happened during that 30 days. 1. That character Lev has released documents to the House that pretty much spells out there was more that meets the eye and all roads lead back to trump. And he is busy telling all on the Rachel Maddow show over 2 nights. 2. The GAO released a report stating what trump withholding the aid to Ukraine like he did was illegal. Pretty much what the witnesses in the House investigation said. 3. I list this separately because it is rather a big deal. A US Ambassador was being stalked and possibly put in danger by trump’s third party thugs. ( I’m sorry folks but that Bob Hyde is a real piece of work). Even with this new information, there is strong resistance to calling any witnesses in the Senate trial as noted in this article from Politico. From the article.. link“Sen. Rand Paul is waging a fierce campaign to prevent the Senate from hearing witnesses in Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, vowing to force tough votes on his fellow Republicans if they break with the president or back Democrats' demands for new evidence.
The Kentucky Republican is occasionally at odds with Trump, from his killing of Iranian Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani to his national emergency to build his southern border wall. But when it comes to impeachment, Paul is taking the hardest line possible in Trump’s favor.
Paul says if four or more of his GOP colleagues join with Democrats to entertain new witness testimony, he will make the Senate vote on subpoenaing the president’s preferred witnesses, including Hunter Biden and the whistleblower who revealed the Ukraine scandal — polarizing picks who moderate Republicans aren’t eager to call. So he has a simple message for his party: end the trial before witnesses are called.
“If you vote against Hunter Biden, you’re voting to lose your election, basically. Seriously. That’s what it is,” Paul said during an interview in his office on Wednesday. “If you don’t want to vote and you think you’re going to have to vote against Hunter Biden, you should just vote against witnesses, period.”
Now this guy may have a point except at the time trump was pushing to investigate the corruption at this company, he was also pushing for an investigation into the conspiracy that it was not Russia that meddled in the 2016 elections but a plan hatched by Ukrainians and the DNC to meddle in the elections. Even though our intelligence says otherwise. That additional reason for “investigating” kind of gave away trump’s true purpose for withholding aid. IMO. So the question before the American People should this become a real trial with witnesses where we finally get the truth?

Kellyanne was on last night, said that dt does not have to prove he is innocent, that's how court works! They have all forgotten this is not a court of law. It is different!

Reuters...
”Ukraine’s interior ministry says it has opened a criminal investigation into whether former U.S. Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch was illegally stalked and surveilled.
Well it is an investigation in the Ukraine. Not sure if this what trump wanted.
Now it could be just for show or maybe someone will start doing the right thing and truly investigate.

Right now it appears that there are enough Republicans in favor of witnesses that if it's brought to a vote, there will be some witness testimony. Whether or not McConnell will allow it to be brought to a vote remains in doubt. And whether Lev Parnas would be on a potential list is another question. We know John Bolton is on the list but the President has made it clear he intends to try to block his testimony; again, whether Bolton would testify in defiance of the President's order is another mystery. Everyone "knows" that this will eventually result in the President's acquittal but there is definitely the potential for some drama along the way.

Having Republicans bitch about a delay is yet another example of their hypocrisy. Trump has used stall tactics every chance he gets. His tax returns while not requested during this investigation but needed for other legal issues are held up waiting on the Supreme Court to rule which he knows won't be until summer. Trump refused to let his staff testify to the House in the impeachment inquiry. So now he wants to claim all these people are new witnesses. They were witnesses to what he did or didn't do from the beginning.
This is a trial and of course, you should call witnesses - the same ones the House wanted to begin with and new ones if new information arises.
If they truly believed the president were innocent, they would have no problem having Bolton, Pompeo and others testify. There isn't a Republican up there who doesn't know what a crook they have running their party.

”Senate Republicans aren't just going against the popular will at the moment.
They're taking an even bigger gamble by betting that even more damning evidence somehow won't come out between this moment and the election nine months away.
Yeah, sure. Good luck with that.”
Josh Jordan...
”Support for witnesses in the Senate #ImpeachmentTrial in recent polls:
CNN 69-26 Quinnipiac 66-17 WaPo/ABC 71-22 Morning Consult 57-24
Republicans are absolutely going against the will of the people here, and voters will now get to decide if they'll make them pay for it in Nov.”
Yea good luck with that.

Remember Barr's famous pre-employment 19 page 2018 memo?!?!?!? ** Attorney General William Barr argued in a 2018 memo that impeachment served as a check on any president who abused his power, seemingly contradicting the argument offered by President Trump’s legal team ahead of the impeachment trial.** The 19-page memo featured Barr’s theory of executive power and his belief that obstruction of justice laws did not apply to president, even if they were under subpoena, according to the Times. But he added that a constitutional check on the president’s conduct still existed. “The fact that President is answerable for any abuses of discretion and is ultimately subject to the judgment of Congress through the impeachment process means that the President is not the judge in his own cause,” he wrote. He added that “under the Framers’ plan, the determination [of] whether the president is making decisions based on ‘improper’ motives or whether he is ‘faithfully’ discharging his responsibilities is left to the People, through the election process, and the Congress, through the Impeachment process.”** thehill.com/homenews/administration/479281-barr-wrote-2018-memo-contradicting-trumps-claim-that-abuse-of-power

Long but says it all! Former Vice President Joe Biden’s presidential campaign on Tuesday released a video purporting to explain “what really happened in Ukraine” as the campaign pushes back on expected GOP arguments during President Trump's impeachment trial in the Senate. “Joe Biden is the person who got him out of office. It was a monumental, international, bipartisan, anti-corruption victory,” Bates says in the video, noting that Sens. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and then-Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) all signed onto the effort. thehill.com/homenews/campaign/479263-biden-campaign-releases-4-minute-video-to-explain-what-really-happened-inSens. Johnson and Portman are STILL sitting Senators and are jurors sitting NOW in the Senate!! They signed the letter in 2016: they know the truth!! Let us see how they vote?!?!?!

I was stuck last night watching Fox News (in an animal emergency hospital) and hearing them justify everything is just moronic. They DO believe Trump is innocent (or they want to believe it). They believe that the Dems wanted him out even before he got in. They believe the Dems want control of the House & Senate, and Presidency, so they'll "do anything" to get him out. They make it all sound like fabrications created by the Dems, and that Trump hasn't done anything wrong. The Russia thing? A long hoax, and "nothing" came of it.
They're insistent on NOT calling witnesses and NOT looking for information on the Ukraine call because "nothing bad was done". They believe that the Dems are stalling and creating another big "hoax" because they hate poor wittle Donnie Dimwit.
Watching that channel is truly mind-boggling!!!!!!!!! These viewers would only have to do a tad of research to find that everyone in Trump's orbit is a criminal, and he's ALWAYS surrounded himself with criminals and crimes!

It seems they do not care about the truth: therefore they say no documents or witnesses are needed! It is not legal in most cases and is beng addressed, but that takes time. More than a few of them DO know that dt has done things that are wrong as well as illegal. For some reason they are totally afraid of him and what they think he can do to them! The truth will eventually come out, it almost always does. Unfortunately it may not be soon enough to save our country as it has been all these 200+ years.

Rep Val Demings...

This morning the President not only confessed to it, he bragged about it: "Honestly, we have all the material. They don't have the material."

This from Alexander Hamilton - 8-18-1792 popped up on twitter about the events happening today.
”The truth unquestionably is, that the only path to a subversion of the republican system of the Country is, by flattering the prejudices of the people, and exciting their jealousies and apprehensions, to throw affairs into confusion, and bring on civil commotion. Tired at length of anarchy, or want of government, they may take shelter in the arms of monarchy for repose and security.
Those then, who resist a confirmation of public order, are the true Artificers of monarchy—not that this is the intention of the generality47 of them. Yet it would not be difficult to lay the finger upon some of their party who may justly be suspected. When a man unprincipled in private life desperate in his fortune, bold in his temper, possessed of considerable talents, having the advantage of military habits—despotic in his ordinary demeanour—known to have scoffed in private at the principles of liberty—when such a man is seen to mount the hobby horse of popularity—to join in the cry of danger to liberty—to take every opportunity of embarrassing the General Government & bringing it under suspicion—to flatter and fall in with all the non sense of the zealots of the day—It may justly be suspected that his object is to throw things into confusion that he may “ride the storm and direct the whirlwind.”

if they do not allow any witnesses or additional evidence, i hold the GOP senators complicit in this cover up. and it is that, a cover up. clearly, the President is the hill they choose to die on. ironic considering he would NEVER show them the same loyalty. many will tie the legacy of their political career to this man. sad.
