People fully vaccinated against Covid-19 do not need to wear masks or practice social distancing indoors or outdoors, except under certain circumstances, the director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Thursday.
"If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic," Dr. Rochelle Walensky said during a White House Covid-19 briefing. "We have all longed for this moment when we can get back to some sense of normalcy." Walensky said the science supports the new recommendation that "anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities -- large or small -- without wearing a mask or physical distancing."
I feel such a relief!

Yea I think I’ll still be wearing a mask inside public places for the foreseeable future, even after I’m fully vaccinated next month.

My main concern with this is that it will just decrease the mask wearing overall. Those who are not going to get vaccinated won’t wear masks, either, if they aren’t required.

I’ll definitely still wear a mask until my whole family is vaccinated. Fortunately my youngest is 12 and will get her first shot today. I’m not sure how I’ll feel when she’s fully vaccinated. It feels wrong somehow to not mask up.

Studies have come back showing that vaccinated people are at very low risk of transmitting or getting the virus. My vaccination protects me. That's fantastic news. I'm thrilled that we're on our way back to normal.

My husband, late teen son, and I will all be getting our second shots next week, but my two younger teen kids haven’t started theirs, yet. (We are excited, and will schedule as soon as our county opens up appointments for them.)
What is the risk that we could bring it home to them? Should we all continue to mask until they are fully vaccinated, or just the younger kids?

If I had a private business (store, restaurant, etc) I would still have a mask requirement for everyone. I wouldn’t want to be the vaccine “police” and have to ask patrons for their vaccine cards.

I'm fully vaccinated and I'll still be wearing a mask when I go out in public. Just because you are vaccinated doesn't mean you are immune from getting sick at all.

There will be tons of unvaccinated people going maskless. They will simply lie about it.

Yea I think I’ll still be wearing a mask inside public places for the foreseeable future, even after I’m fully vaccinated next month. Ive been fully vaccinated since February and I still follow this practice. With the newer mutations that are more transmissible and the vaccines are less effective on, it's just not worth the risk. I probably won't be comfortable maskless indoor public places for awhile, if herd immunity ever even happens.

Still wearing mine inside. You have no idea who is and isn't vaccinated.

I would assume the CDC are taking into consideration the different variants that are abound when making decisions to forgo masks in non-crowded places for vaccinated people.

My concern as well, until everyone (including kids) can get vaccinated. I’ve been fully vaccinated since early February, but I worry about not wearing a mask—not because I think I need to for anyone’s safety, but because I worry about the fact that you can’t tell if people are vaccinated.

I wouldn’t want to be the vaccine “police” and have to ask patrons for their vaccine cards. there are still a LOT of stores around here that have signs saying masks are required. Even though the governor has said there is no state-wide mask MANDATE any more. There are some stores that have switched the sign to 'masks recommended' but still quite a few with 'masks required.' (That doesn't stop people from NOT wearing masks, though, and I'll go out on a limb and say that most of those people just *look* like they're covid-deniers / anti-maskers, not people who have been vaccinated. (yes, I might be wrong... but... I feel it's a safe assumption.)) long story short, what does this recommendation do for fully-vaccinated people going into a store that says 'masks required?' Do I wear a mask because the store says to, or do I not, because I'm vaccinated and the CDC says it's not required?

You didn't ask but depending on their age I may just have my family continue to wear the masks for solidarity.

I will totally wear a mask when in public, but I am wondering if my classroom will be a safe place to go maskless. I know with 100% certainty that the other teachers I work with have been vaccinated. The kids can’t be because they are under 12. I am super paranoid and cautious and worry about the mutations too, but man, not wearing a mask in a hot basement during the summer sure sounds nice! Our regular building is closed, so we are renting a space and I think it is going to be super hot in our “classroom”.

Yep I have an infant at home and he is getting antibodies from my breast milk since I’ve been vaccinated, but I don’t trust anyone after the behavior I’ve seen in the past 14 months.

Their store their rules. I am having a similar problem at my office. People are trying to come in mask less, however because I live in Oregon we still have a mask mandate that I have to police or risk losing my license.

Local health departments and private businesses get to set their requirements. that's what I figured, but my DH has already been complaining about masks, so... it'll probably come up. Or a lot more people will ignore the store requirements. Because the store employees don't say anything to them.

I would assume the CDC are taking into consideration the different variants that are abound when making decisions to forgo masks in non-crowded places for vaccinated people. They said that so far, studies show that the vaccines are protecting against the variants in the US. They gave a caveat that if that changes, the guidance will change.
