The problem is that the base is not the majority. Until the old white men are voted out nothing will improve!!!

An email from Lyft this morning. They really took a stand, I wonder if Uber will follow?
subject: Defending drivers and women's access to healthcare
Dear Lyft Riders and Drivers,
A new Texas law, SB8, threatens to punish drivers for getting people where they need to go — specifically, women exercising their right to choose and to access the healthcare they need.
We want to be clear: Drivers are never responsible for monitoring where their riders go or why. Imagine being a driver and not knowing if you are breaking the law by giving someone a ride. Similarly, riders never have to justify, or even share, where they are going and why. Imagine being a pregnant woman trying to get to a healthcare appointment and not knowing if your driver will cancel on you for fear of breaking a law. Both are completely unacceptable.
This law is incompatible with people's basic rights to privacy, our community guidelines, the spirit of rideshare, and our values as a company. We are taking action on two fronts: Lyft has created a Driver Legal Defense Fund to cover 100% of legal fees for drivers sued under SB8 while driving on our platform. Riders and Drivers: Nothing about how you drive, ride or interact with each other should change. Texas SB8 is an attack on women's right to choose. Lyft is donating $1 million to Planned Parenthood to help ensure that transportation is never a barrier to healthcare access. If you feel compelled to join us as an individual, you can make a donation here. Logan and John, Lyft Co-founders Kristin Sverchek, Lyft General Counse

Seeing his face is giving me the same angry, nauseous, disgusted feeling I get when I see tRump. I loathe this man with every bone in my body and I've never been more embarrassed to be a Texan. As much a I want to run away and burn the whole state down, those of us with sense have to stay and fix this atrocity!!

Colbert King’s column in today’s Washington Post nails it. He talks about Hillary Clinton’s warning that this day would come.
“ My response to the Supreme Court's 5-to-4 decision allowing the Texas law prohibiting abortions after six weeks of pregnancy to take effect will be cold comfort to women in the state who have lost control over their bodies. Adequate words fall short of the mark even for me, a member of the Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington’s board of directors before joining The Post’s Editorial Board in 1990.
The best I can express is outrage over such a cruel Texas government action and dismay at the Supreme Court’s complicity in snubbing the Constitution.
I’m also sick at heart because five years ago, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton put the country on notice that this day could come.
While celebrating the Supreme Court’s June 27, 2016, decision rejecting of two restrictive provisions in a Texas House bill regulating abortion, Clinton warned in a campaign release that the fight for the right to access health care, and for women to make their own decisions about their bodies and their futures, was “far from over.”
She stated, presciently, "The fact that our next president could appoint as many as three or four justices in the next four years" is a striking reminder "that we can’t take rulings like today’s for granted.”
Clinton left no room for speculation. “Just consider Donald Trump, the Republicans’ presumptive nominee. The man who could be president has said there should be some form of ‘punishment’ for women seeking abortions. He pledged to appoint Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade. And last year, he said he’d shut down the government rather than fund Planned Parenthood.”
And Clinton made clear the consequences. “If we send Trump to the White House and a Republican majority to Congress, he could achieve any — or all — of these things. And that’s why this election is so important."
"The outcome of November’s contests,” she declared, “is going to be a deciding factor in whether our elected officials and our courts defend or attack a woman’s right to health care for generations to come.”
She was so right.

I held my nose and voted for Hillary because I saw this coming. We had a chance to take a giant step forward for women’s rights but we blew it because people didn’t like her. Now we will pay.

I know hindsight is 20/20 but even in 2016, Hillary was clearly a more qualified candidate. Former’s ego, stupidity, narcissism, racism, conflicting business interests and nepotism should have been major red flags and scared everyone. Not to mention his offensive comments, especially regarding women, veterans and people with disabilities. His temper, lying and fake media claims were dangerous during the campaign.

Honestly no 20/20 sight was needed. Tump seemed so inappropriate to me from the very beginning that I never considered voting for him. I saw huge red flags from very far away.

Really want to slow abortions? Free, easy to get long-term birth control and education so that people know it is safe and available Exactly, but they are against that too usually. 🤷♀️ Unwanted pregnancies will lower when we fully empower all women to have control over their own bodies & lives entirely. And laws will change when men are held accountable for causing unwanted pregnancies.

I would love to see someone apply this to vaccination. Just to show how far they are taking this. As a third party I may actually have a better chance at proving standing as being injured by someone who refuses a vaccine than someone who wants an abortion. This is all so dumb.

It's my body.... Nicolle Wallace highlights video that ‘previews’ how Texas abortion battle will play out in midterms Bob Brigham MSNBC anchor Nicolle Wallace analyzed how she predicts abortion will play out in the 2022 midterms after Republicans in Texas passed a controversial bill designed to limit the right to abortion. "With Republicans now traipsing into the arms of the most extreme elements of the GOP base with the law that all the bans of abortion in Texas and turns neighbors and friends into bounty hunters, the question is this, what are Democrats going to with their control of the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate and the White House to protect reproductive freedoms, not just for the women of Texas but for all the women in this country?" Wallace asked. www.rawstory.com/texas-abortion-war-on-women/

The consequence of this law is more far reaching than the most important reason that women should have control of their own body. Not only is it abhorrent for a woman to be forced to give birth to a child following a rape or incest, has no one, passing these laws, ever thought of the mental anguish these children are going to be faced with for the rest of their lives knowing that they came into this world as the consequence of a rape or incest. Two of the most heinous crimes against women.
Many children grow up with mental anguish following an adoption of needing to know " where they came from" many children face anguish because of their parent's divorce but can you imagine telling a child you are a product of rape or incest. There's a reason that rape is against the law in the same way as incest is, not only against the law but incest also has a medical reason why it is against the law.
I'm gobsmacked that anywhere in a civilised country would pass such a law.

I've been sending mail to them since last week and getting the automated responses. They sure do like to tweet their outrage though, don't they? Nothing has been given to women that we didn't work hard to demand. Asking nicely never worked. Waiting for progress never worked. We have to turn out in numbers that let them know we're going to hold them accountable. And more of us need to start running for office.

When I write to my (Republican) representatives (at the state level and member of Congress) on something they specifically said, there is no response at all. I know it’s disappointing to have an automated response, but I also don’t think they would get anything done right now if they were personally responding to everyone that was writing.
