Why is Jenner's opinion on a TX law worthy of CNN airtime?
Oh, right, rich person - so her opinion needs a CNN-sized platform.

She is relevant now because she is running for California governor. Voters need to know about her platform.

As much as I hate my state legislature heavily influenced by the Mormon church, I'm hoping the Texas laws don't pass in our state. The church has said they are not opposed to abortion in cases of rape or incest. Hopefully, at a federal level this will be resolved. I can see them trying the six week law.

"The numbers Among likely voters, 26% favor Elder, compared with 5% for former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and 3% each for Rocklin Assemblyman Kevin Kiley and Rancho Sante Fe businessman John Cox, whom Newsom trounced in the 2018 gubernatorial election. Reality television star and former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner registered at 1%." www.latimes.com/california/story/2021-09-02/larry-elder-dominates-republican-field-newsom-recall-pollShe is clickbait and nothing more. A sad commentary on "the news" making the news instead of reporting on it.

Lol the Democrats in Washington will do nothing to help us, just as they’ve done nothing to preserve our voting rights. Utterly useless bunch of spineless fuckwits. Maybe instead of blaming Democrats for not solving all your problems try voting out the Republicans who are making the bad laws. Oh my gosh! We never thought of that! How dare we ask our national representatives to protect us when our state is infringing on our civil and human rights?! (Without the support of national Democrats in passing the voting right legislation that will overturn Texas' new voting law, there will never be a statewide elected Democrat or Democratic control of our lege again. I don't think you guys understand the level of gerrymandering and suppression that is going on here.) Congresspeople and Senators take an oath to defend the constitution of the United States, and the country against all enemies foreign and domestic, not just for the state they represent, but for all states. The president takes the same oath. Many of these people are not meeting their oath right now. We know we can't rely on Republicans to uphold the constitution, but we should be able to expect Democrats to do it.

But you know, we need to just solve that problem ourselves rather than expecting national representatives to protect our constitutional right to free and fair elections. Not to mention the fact that the Democratic Party and many progressive orgs have largely written off Texas for decades. It takes investment in addition to everything else. There are a lot of places where seats are uncontested or candidates are not vetted or supported. It takes a lot of money and networking to be able to successfully run candidates( from very local to state and national ) against a party that has a lock on the system as well tons of money. It’s easy to say that people should just vote but if you ignore the big picture and all the complications it’s really just empty griping.

What are they going to call it? Or are they taking the close you legs route? Or you can't get pregnant from rape. Or rape is only in your mind? Or it just doesn't exist or happen at all? There is no longer anywhere he can stoop...

There is no longer anywhere he can stoop... You may remember that “the female body has ways of shutting that whole thing down”. I can’t remember which particular GOP asshat said that, but one of them did.

Yes, your part of town should form the core of a substantial blue district, but yeah. I know they’re coming for my district (Lizzie Fletcher, TX-07) in the next redistricting. What used to be a red district designed to dilute the blue votes of immediate southwest Houston is now solidly blue thanks to changing demographics in Sugarland. Also my state rep district, which we flipped from red to blue last year. You bet they’ll find a way to break that up.

This one? Todd Akin from Missouri - Her's a complete asshat Legitimate rape rarely leads to pregnancy www.politico.com/story/2012/08/akin-legitimate-rape-victims-dont-get-pregnant-079864 “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.” He also said this ““As far as I’m concerned, the morning-after pill is a form of abortion, and I think we just shouldn’t have abortion in this country.” Greg Knapp, the radio host, asked again: “So just to be clear, though, you would like to ban the morning-after, totally for everyone?” “Yeah,” Akin said. “I think that’s a form of abortion, and I don’t support it.” Fortunately, Claire McCaskill beat him He later wrote a book and unapologized. He also wrote this Akin offers no apologies for his “legitimate rape” comment and blames liberal news media for how it was received. My comment about a woman’s body shutting the pregnancy down was directed to the impact of stress on fertilization. This is something fertility doctors debate and discuss,” Akin writes. “Doubt me? Google ‘stress and infertility,’ and you will find a library of research on the subject.” And in addition to being misogynistic, he might be racist, too. Akin later says during his time as a state legislator, he wished he could have done more to “end this evil,” referring to abortion, which in his view “easily trumps slavery as the greatest moral evil in American history.” He also says that the media — even Republican columnists like The New York Times’ David Brooks and The Wall Street Journal’s Peggy Noonan — essentially gave then-candidate Barack Obama a pass. “But other than Obama’s Senate record and his hard left background, the media and our Republican elite assured us there was nothing to worry about. … Unfortunately, by yelling, ‘Racism!’ every time anyone criticized the president’s policies, Obama’s fellow Democrats and their allies in the media have only aggravated racial tensions.”

Yep. Almost 10 years later and I still see red at the size of his ignorance and his pride in parading it in front of the American people. If you believe stupid things at least be smart enough to keep your mouth shut about them. But no, their beliefs are as valid as hard-working scientists' facts - kwim?

That list seems a little out of date abortion is legal in NZ from 20 weeks LINK. It's legal in Ireland now too it came into force on the 1st January 2019 in the Republic of Ireland. So long as a 3-day waiting period has elapsed, abortion care is lawful on request up to 12 weeks of pregnancy. Abortion is also lawful for reasons of risk to a woman’s life or of serious harm to her health and in cases of fatal foetal anomaly. Northern Ireland - The new law came in beginning of March 2020 - LINK which gives the details as it varies under different circumstances

My sister is upset with me because I said I wasn't eating at restaurants owned by Landry's. Apparently the CEO, Tilman J. Fertitta, gave large donations to the bulk of these Texas politicians. And Landry's has a big umbrella. Landry's Inc He gave 100K to Abbott last year.

What in the actual hell? I won't be bought for an adult beverage. Great googly moogly... Landry's owns a ton of big chains restaurants and entertainment/hotel spaces. None of them need my money. Especially if he's going to hand it over to mediocre TX men to control women.

Wow, that’s a ton more than I thought, plus entertainment venues. I seriously need to start a list to help me remember.

Ok, question. ( not exactly hypothetical but past tense so hypothetical in terms of this discussion ) What if a person was pregnant, heard the heart beat in an ultrasound at approx 6 weeks. Then at 12 weeks the woman starts having problems. A new ultrasound is done, there is no heartbeat, the fetus is still 6 weeks in size hasn’t grown at all since 1st ultrasound, in fact might be slightly smaller but these are 2 different techs so maybe not. Dr ( actually 2drs ) recommends a D&C for the mother’s health since she’s been carrying ‘dead’ tissue for +/- 6 weeks. Technically a D&C is an abortion. Technically it is after a heart beat ‘was’ heard. What happens in a case like this? This new law is just barbaric!
I was in the position that hop2 and sueg mention. In my case, a pg started as twins, we saw one heartbeat and 2 sacs. At almost 12 weeks there was one fetus and one sac that had likely stopped growing at 8 weeks. I was told to have a D&C, because even if I miscarried naturally I would likely need the D&C, anyway. I didn't feel guilty or ashamed. I felt devastated that a very planned pg was lost. No one but my doctor and I had the right to tell me how to handle it.
Back in college I took a friend to her abortion. If I had to do it again I would do so in a minute. She was an addict and greatly in need of psychological help. She made the best choice for her situation. Did she feel sadness and guilt. You betcha'. What would have happened to her child had she gone through with the pregnancy, assuming it would thrive given her massive drinking/pot problem? I was told that she found recovery and healing and then went on to have 3 very planned children. She's a co-pastor w/her husband at a church and has learned to be open and gracious. I don't feel guilty, because I helped her. I feel like I did the right thing for another human being. She was 7 weeks when she had the abortion.
If one of my son's had a girlfriend who wanted an abortion, because she knew what was best for her body and her situation I would drive her, bring her home and take care of her. I would also really push for pyschotherapy in order to handle the grief. Though I always think adoption is a great option and would hope that it's considered first, I am not G-d and do not have the right to tell another woman what to do w/her body.
Again, I see this law as barbaric. Are we going back to the Salem witch trials? She's having an abortion. Burn her!
