I want to be very clear that I am not condoning his behavior. However, it seems to me that he is having a manic episode. I am not saying he just gets a free pass but he has a mental illness and so I am a bit conflicted here. I want society to take mental illness more seriously and I want society to be more compassionate towards people inflicted with mental diseases. Doesn’t feel right to me if I say I want this for all those affected with mental illness except for Kanye. Idk just the inner conflict I have had when thinking about this the last couple of days. While I agree, somewhat, Kanye is a grown ass man who has the ability to get treatment and help for his mental issues and choses not to. Mental illness does not end his obligation to be responsible. Mental illness does not give you a free pass from consequences. If this was a one time issue and Kanye realized he needed help and got that help, then I'd be more willing to give a little more grace. But this isn't the first time and it wont be the last.

Yeah, that was a very bad look for them, especially since they are a German based company. WTF took them so long!? A German based company with Nazi roots Bingo!

Are you aware of all the crap he’s been up to over the years? Unmedicated/poorly medicated/undiagnosed mental illness can be disastrous to be sure. I have all kinds of sympathy for those who struggle. He gets no more passes after ALL this time and all the nonsense he’s said and done. He chooses to spew the stuff he does, all the while apparently completely disregarding his health. Too bad, so sad. I personally don't believe he believes what he does because he chooses not to deal with his mental illness. This kind of stuff doesn’t just rear it’s ugly head out of nowhere. He simply is a hateful being to his core. Also, it says a lot about him that he has no one, not one person advocating for him. Yet he’s surrounded by those who “care” for him nearly 24/7. ETA: my anger is directed at Kanye, not you. I have been wondering if the people surrounding him have his best interests at heart or are they bad players with self serving interests. I don’t think he is surrounding himself with people that are a strong support system when he needs it. However, I recognize that it can be argued that he is at fault for that as well. Like I said I definitely agree that he is saying horrible, horrible comments. I just normally firmly believe in separating the mental illness from the person. Kanye complicates that though for sure.

When the republicans take the house and senate in two weeks, this country will be irreparably fucked. Part of me is ready to see it all burn to the ground just so I can say I told you so. That’s how over all of it I am.

I want to add one more thing. Not speaking out is part of the problem. Not just us Jews, but everyone. You, and you, and you included. As I said upthread, when businesses make no statements, take no action against anti-Semites, they are condoning the behavior. If you’re shrugging your shoulders and moving on without saying anything, you’re part of the problem. I just read that anti-Semitic activities have increased 34% in the past two years. Last year there were just under 3k anti-Semitic incidents reported in the US. Imagine how many are unreported because the victims are afraid of becoming a larger target? This is absolutely, unacceptable. Off my soapbox. Yeah, I’m pissed. That is what bothered me so.much with Adidas as well. *If* it had been a legal contract issue that *might* be a reason to wait, but there was NOTHING stopping them.from IMMEDIATELY denouncing the stuff he was spewing. The second they were aware of his tweets they should have immediately made a statement.

Typically I don’t like excuses and am tired of the lack of ownership behind actions and lack of consequences anymore. Yet a lot of why this world is so fucked up anymore is the lack of help and compassion for people with mental diseases.

It’s that he feels this to his core AND he is a public figure who has a ginormous following (and normalizes anti-semitism to all those followers) and influences hundreds of millions of people. He is making these comments and normalizing this behavior. He is dangerous. I honestly do not believe that you’re seeing the full picture here.

He is known to not listen to anyone, including his ex wife. There is nothing complicated about his hatred for Jews.

By the way, that lost Adidas partnership? Well, in one day, after losing that contract, his net worth went from 2B (I was shocked too) to $400M. These kinds of loses aren’t small potatoes. I’d be thrilled to see him lose more. Yeah, I can be vindictive like that.

ETA that I think Kanye is an asshole and am glad that he is finally seeing some real consequences. Just wanted to point that out in regards to mental health issues. Many people make comments that indicate that they think seeking treatment means that there are no more symptoms, and that is just not the case. I also don’t know that he is having a manic episode at this time, and that wouldn’t necessarily make someone anti-Semitic anyway.

Worth pointing out here that this Official GOP-run account has yet to delete this tweet, which was bad to begin with and now has aged like a bag of shrimp shells left in a hot car.
I denounce anti-semitism. I have conflicted feelings about the way we treat and understand mental illness in this country, but that doesn’t make me sympathetic to Kanye in this situation. As someone else pointed out, mental illness doesn’t make you anti-semitic. That had to be in there already.

Jesus. "I love Hitler and the Nazis." That's all I need to know about him. What a POS. Right. This shit doesn’t come out because someone is mentally ill… it is who they are. The mental illness just allows it to come out more freely. Or maybe it would come out freely even if he was what is considered to be mentally stable. Mental illness does not CAUSE (long-standing and repeated) racist, anti-Semitic, gay-bashing or other abhorrent behavior.
