Also wondering, what is the best sharpener out there for the pencils she uses ? Uni Color Pencil Sharpener (UNI DPS1021P.24) = $1.65--I got these at Jet Pens and they are great. In fact I just ordered a couple more just to have on hand

thank you, blondiec47....I just don't want the color pencil to keep breaking before I can get a sharp point like my other pencils do...

thank you, blondiec47....I just don't want the color pencil to keep breaking before I can get a sharp point like my other pencils do... These sharpeners are designed for colored pencils and give the short point (like the pencils are originally sharpened when they are new). I have not had any issues with the lead breaking and I have been sharpening a lot

Johanna Basford updated her FB page with an apology for the stock issues. As a little treat to hold us over, she has released three prints from Enchanted Forest. Click here to download the PDF. They are print quality so the download may take a few minutes. Thanks for these! I like them I bought some watercolor pencils but haven't tried them yet. What type of paper should I print them onto? I'd recommend watercolor paper. I buy inexpensive drawing pads of it at Walmart - they are 9" x 12" - and I cut down the sheet to 8.5 x 11 and run it through my printer.

This is just the best thread ever! And so much good info! Who knew there was so much to know about COLORING!! LOL.
Am I the only one who thinks that these books would be so much better if they were spiral bound? So hard to colour when they aren't flat. Are you cutting them apart? I see some people are scanning the pictures so they must be to get them flat enough to scan... Right?

I love to color and want to get at least one book, but really don't want to invest in pencils or expensive coloring tools. What a first world problem!

A pack of Crayola colored pencils costs less than a Starbucks. Coloring is a hobby that is only as expensive as you want to make it. There are plenty of awesome coloring pages for free on the Internet. At school supply time in August, you can get packs of crayons and colored pencils for $0.50 a piece at Walmart/Target. Of course, because we are a bunch of scrapbookers, we can turn ANY hobby into a money pit. LOL! But it isn't necessary.

It's okay! Trust me, you have years of coloring in your future with your little one. Although the pages you will print for him or her will more likely be Sesame Street characters.

I'm not planning to submit any of my pictures to MOMA or the Louvre, so I'll settle for Crayola.

Maybe I'll send one to my adult son and make him hang it on his fridge. Payback for all his drawings I hung when he was little!! Great idea! We should all do this to our grown children.

When my daughter was growing up I would always put her pictures that she colored on the fridge and one morning I woke up (she got up early with husband) and There was a picture she colored and a picture I colored on the fridge. After that every time we colored together she would hang one of mine and I would hang one of hers.

When you open the book, does the book lay flat or do you have to "break" the spine to get it to sort of lie flat? Unless it lays smoothly flat, it seems it will be quite difficult to color the areas closest to the spine.
ETA: sorry, I am talking about the Enchanted Forest and the Secret Garden books.

ETA: sorry, I am talking about the Enchanted Forest and the Secret Garden books. They are like a regular books and don't lay flat unless you break the binding. I am thinking about taking mine to Staples to have them spiral bound. I've done that with quilting books that I use a lot. It's not expensive and makes the books easier to use.

I love my craft books spiral bound. They are so much easier for me to deal with that way.

My 7 year old decided that a coloring book would be a perfect gift for me for Mother's Day ... so I can color with him and my two other younger sons. I agree and so I'm ordering this one tonight ... Nature Coloring Book. But I really like this one also ... Mid Century Coloring Book. I must only order one. I must only order one
