Thank you for posting those pages. I ordered both of her books but Amazon showed them shipping/arriving late May or early June. Now we can color these while we are waiting!

Okay I bought a book, the one from Costco.. not my favorite pictures but it will do for now. I bought a 24 pack of colored pencils and oh boy, not enough! But I don't want to spend a ton of money on expensive pencils.
Okay does anyone remember through Stampin Up or Close to My Heart, blended crayons?? I can't remember which company had those. I still have them although they are packed away. They can be blended. I wonder if those would look good?? The only thing stopping me from opening up tons of boxes is that the tips are not sharp and might be to bulky... any thoughts?

I'm not sure if they ever sold blended crayons, it's been a while since I was a consultant. You wouldn't be able to get fine line coloring with the SU crayons.

These are pencils I got. They're like chalk and really blend well. Got them on Amazon of course.
Cretacolor Fine Art Pastel Pencil Set.
Oh and to add to the list of my coloring purchases, had to buy a case to hold all my pencils!!!
Now to get to coloring!

They are a pastel and blend super well, but keep in mind that pastels have to be handled a certain way or you'll just smear your color. If you don't care, then go for it.

I liked the smeared look on the first picture I tried, but you're right, they won't be good for all types of coloring books. Thanks freebird. Appreciate the info!!!!

PSA: you can print or copy your book pages onto watercolor paper and then they hold up much better if you use wet media. I love using watercolor pencils, but was becoming disheartened by my pages warping and bleeding through. I bought a $5 pad of Canson watercolor paper at Walmart and cut a sheet down to 8.5 x 11 and put it in my printer and printed one of the sheets that Patter posted - the owl. I was worried that my inkjet ink might smear, because it does on regular paper when it gets wet. However, I spent last night watching GoT and coloring with my watercolor pencils and using my water brush and it is working AMAZINGLY! No smearing ink. No warping paper. No bleeding through. Watercolor printer paper is obscenely expensive - like $1 per sheet. An art pad of 30 sheets at Walmart is $5 - it is 9 x 12, so you have to trim, but worth it.

This is my first attempt. Nothing to write home about, just wanted to show how chalk blending pencils look. I like the effect, however like freebird said, these wouldn't work for the real intricate pictures. And as you can see, lots of smudges on the paper.

FWIW, you can buy fixative spray for your chalk and pastel pencils at craft stores. So, when you are done, you can erase the smudges with a gum eraser (if they aren't oil based), and then spray your work with a light spray of fixative. It dries almost instantly. Since coloring is for stress release, perfect smudge-free work isn't necessary, so you may not be interested in that extra step. But I know that there are some peas whose OCD levels might make living with smudges hard enough to want to take that step. I have that book in my Amazon shopping cart - LOL! It is beautiful.

I do like how those blended nicely, but I can see how you can't use them on the intricate drawings.

I have just seen these books today - The Secret Garden and the Enchanted Forest. They were described to me as adult colouring books and they look wonderful. A very relaxing therapy when one just wants to clear the mind and take focus from other worries.
Will be ordering when I find a site that I can get them from.

They're definitely in Australia - I saw the note cards in a local Dymocks (Melbourne) and then a different independent book shop near me had a whole stack of the Enchanted Forest books in the window display. probably if you keep an eye out at the various booksellers you'll see one soon. Otherwise this is where I saw it - they seem to do online ordering: My (little) Bookshop

I just spent 2 days scanning the pages from our book. We like to scan them before we color them so that we always have a copy so that we can color it in the future if we want. Daughter and I usually get one book and share.
WE also have gotten free color sheets off the internet. I have a large 3 ring binder full of color sheets We have gotten throughout the years.
Thank you Patter for posting the links to the 5 Secret Garden sheets. Those are really nice and big. I might print them on smooth white card stock.
I love coloring with gel pens and colored pencils. I even like crayons when the picture has large spaces to color.

I got the last Enchanted Forest book at my local Michaels and I love it! They were out of Secret Garden and I thought about ordering it, but I think this one will keep me occupied for a while.

It's like it eats it! pastel is supposed to grab into the tooth of the paper, a smooth paper has no tooth to hang on to so that's why you'll lose a lot of color. Can you tell I've been taking pastel classes?

More good info freebird. Thanks! It's not like any of these will be hung in the DIA, so keeping them protected shouldn't be a issue. Maybe I'll send one to my adult son and make him hang it on his fridge. Payback for all his drawings I hung when he was little!! One little tip, I got a small piece of sandpaper to sharpen pencils included in a set of watercolors The paper was so small, I knew it wouldn't last long. So had idea of using emery board! I'm sure I can get a huge pack at dollar store. You're supposed to hold the sandpaper on the table while you hold the pencil and rub and turn to sharpen.

I'm STILL trying to get my hands on a copy of either book! I had one glimmer of hope last week where my B&N showed it as "in stock" again so I quickly put it on hold only to find it was another error. Apparently if a book is on hold for someone else, it is still counted in their inventory as available. Boo! We will be in Orlando this weekend so I'm going to try to scope out some stores over there...otherwise I'll just wait for Amazon. Johanna Basford updated her FB page with an apology for the stock issues. As a little treat to hold us over, she has released three prints from Enchanted Forest. Click here to download the PDF. They are print quality so the download may take a few minutes. Just wanted to share... Hope everyone is enjoying their coloring treasures.

YAY!The Enchanted Forest book I ordered just showed up today. The pictures are absolutely amazing. national Scrapbook Day might just become National Colouring Book Day at my house! LOL. i need to acquire more colours of the Staedtler fine liners tho. I do have Prismacolor pencils ... I guess I could use those. It's keeping them sharp enough that would drive me crazy... Well, crazier is probably more accurate.
