I was born in 1960 so I was a child of the 60's, a teen in the 70's graduated high school in 1978. I loved the 70's, still think it was the best decade, certainly for music anyway. As far as dolls go I think I was the only girl who never had a Barbie. Well, maybe not only, that's really pushing it, but you know what I mean. My mother thought they weren't "proper" for little girls because they had boobs. We had Liddle Kiddle dolls instead. Anyone remember those? They were fantastic. Little rubber dolls about 3" high and each one came with something, there was a blonde girl that came with a lemonade stand, there was a girl that came with an airplane and so on. Those came out in 1968 when I was 8 years old. My sister and I had a collection of these dolls as did our two friends who lived across the street. You can see them if you look on Ebay. Anyway, we four girls played together every day, and built a whole village for these little dolls. Later they came out with smaller versions that came in lockets-these are the ones most people remember. As far as the 70's go, I remember the Herbal Essence shampoo because my best friend in high school-her father worked for Clairol, and she'd get me all of these samples for free. That was one of my favorite shampoos because of the smell and the illustration on the front. I remember the Panasonic doughnut radio that another Pea mentioned and I also had a Panasonic 8 track tape player that looked like a square with a plunge down handle at the top in bright blue plastic. I also remember Gunny Sax dresses-I thought they were really beautiful back then. How about hanging out at the rollar rink on Saturday nights? Did any of you do that? We did-small town, not much else to do. Debbie in MD. My senior prom dress was a handmade Gunne Sax style dress. Skate Ranch was our local roller rink - it JUST closed the end of July after 45 years.

I also had some weird chipmunk or squirrel toys where you out your fingers in their arms and when you squeezed them they squeeked. They lived in a softish log that Velcro closed. One thing I have asked about before and people insist was play-dough, but I promise you it wasn't, was some sort of dough set where you ate the dough. It was yellow, brown and pink dough, it was very soft and came with a brown and yellow checked mat. You were supposed to eat the dough, and it was flavored, chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. Trust me, I ate my share of playdough too, but this was dough you were supposed to eat. Speaking of playdough, how about the fuzzy pumper barber shop. Remember the dad with his orange hair and beard? That was a great toy! I loved the mold for the moms hair and used it on the dad all the time. Speaking of things you weren't supposed to eat, how about paste? That stuff was tasty! There are some glue sticks that smell like paste, but I think I am too old to see how they taste. As fast as my students go through glue sticks, I do wonder sometimes if they aren't eating them. Oh, how about sticker collecting and scratch and sniff stickers? My favorite was just good old orange and marshmallow. I loved the Fuzzy Pumper Barber Shop that my brother had. I was excited to find the remade version of it for my kids. Super bummed out that it wouldn't sit well in the chair or work as smoothly. I had visions of it being used for hour after hour and it just didn't happen. The edible dough isn't clicking in my memory.

Let's see, some of my favorite things were handmedowns from my older siblings like the Shrinky Dink Shrink Machine (still have it somewhere). I coveted my friend's flower maker thing where you squeezed the colored goop into the heated metal molds that cooked it into a rubbery toy (there was also a creepy crawler version). I also liked Lisa Frank rainbow stickers and notebooks and stuff. I collected scratch and sniff stickers. But my all time favorite stuff was the drugstore candies you can't get anymore (or that are hard to find) like Delfa Rolls licorice, Satellite Wafers, licorice pipes, Turkish Taffy. I can't even think of it all now but I sure do miss it! You can still get some of that candy at the Vermont Country Store in Vermont. You can also order from them online. There is a store called Yummies in Maine that has some of it too.

One of my prized possessions to this day is my Wham-O Glow In The Dark Magic Window. It had pink and yellowish sand. The yellowish sand glowed in the dark. I still have it and as ridiculous as this sounds, once in a while I still play with it, lol. My favorite shampoo was Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific! A few years ago I ordered some of it from eBay and it was shipped from another country. I used it sparingly but LOVED the scent just as much as I did back when. Vermont Country Store sells it for $15 a bottle. They sell Lemon Up too at $15 a bottle. My kids love the Lemon Up. You can order online from them.

I was born in 1961 and graduated high school in 1979! I still have my LiteBrite, my Barbie house and Thumbelina doll. DH has his original GI Joe in the box! It has this short rough hair!! LOL! I loved Little Kiddles too! And my Chrissy and Kerry dolls with the growing hair! And Baby Secret when I was young. You pulled her string and she whispered to you. Banana seat bikes!! My brother had a VacUForm that got super hot and made these rubbery creatures. I laugh now at how many times we burned ourselves on it! I loved watching The Love Boat and the original Fantasy Island when I was in 8th-9th grade! Remember the BIG Lip Smackers? They were like a inch wide! And the little tins of Village Lip Balms. Lemon Up Shampoo. Jontue perfume. Jeans with rainbow embroidery on them. The ponytail ties shown above with the red and white clear balls....my mom always called those "cherries". She would say to be "get your cherries and I will do your ponytails". I loved reading the Bobbsey Twins books! Cabbage Patch dolls didn't come out until around 1977 or 78 so i didn't get into those since I was in high school. I can't believe no one has mentioned EARTH SHOES! The ultimate shoe for the late 70's high schooler!! LOLOL I had these too: My uncle was HORRIFIED that my mother got me these when I was 13!! I loved my Earth Shoes. I bet my aching feet would love them these days. I'd buy them now and not care what anyone thought of them.

Those WERE romper stompers--as in from the show Romper Room To this day, I remember the crushing disappointment of not having my name called out as being seen in the Magic Mirror. I would jump up and down in front of the tv screaming "I'M HERE I'M HERE!" and every day be so sad that no one ever saw me. She said my name on my birthday!! I was 5 I think. My sister in law sent in the request for me

I love this thread! I still have my Spirograph, Little Kiddles, Barbie Fashion Plates, and some Barbies packed away. Does anyone remember the lemon version of Love's Baby Soft? Same shaped bottle but yellow and lemon scented.

I was a 60s 70s child. I sure loved my gunny saxx dress I wore to prom in 74 & again at my sr pics. I was all over the Gunny Saxx dresses too and I have 2 in my closet that I've kept all these years because I loved them so much! I am pretty sure I gave mine away because I ended up marrying my high school sweetheart & he turned into a mean abusive A-hole

I ran smack dab into a 70's childhood memory today and thought of you all. I popped by the cat thrift store to see the new kittens (note: it's not a store that sells cheap cats; it's a thrift store with sales to benefit a local cat adoption agency, but there is always at least one adoptable cat in the store.) Anyway, they had a basket of unopened packages of Noah's Ark animals from Arco for a mere 50 cents each! Remember those? You could buy the ark, then they would give away animal sets with gas purchases. My brother and I really wanted some, but our parents bought gas elsewhere. I didn't buy any, but it was fun seeing a basket of memories

Same shaped bottle but yellow and lemon scented. You can still get that perfume. It's called Love's Fresh Lemon. I got a small spray bottle of it two years ago. Check for it in the drug stores before Christmas. That's when I got mine. I bought it and never used it. I think I'll move it to the bathroom and use it as air freshener.

The Vermont Country Store asks people to let them know what they like and can't find. I'm assuming that if enough people are asking for something they try to search it out and even get the recipe to manufacture it. We buy our Lemon Up Shampoo from them.

I was Born in 1960 and loved the 70's music- David Bowie, Roxy Music, Derek and the dominoes ( my love of Eric Clapton sees me still going to his concerts whenever I can) Pink Floyd, Bad company ( still love Paul Rogers!) Free and Elton John. Such a weird wonderful mix! Later in the 70's came Kate Bush. I loved the family shows that used to be on TV in the 70's. Looking back they were really cheesy and there was so little TV choice, they probably seemed better than they were. But we would sit round the. TV as a family and watch certain shows- that rarely happens in my family now an hasn't for years because the kids have so much choice of other stuff to do, where we had the. TV, books or playing woth our toys or each other. I loved the music shows we had back then, mainly Top of the Pops. We don't have an equivalent now and haven't for years, but one highlight of Christmas day was the special TOTP. Now it has all been tainted for me because it turns out a lot of these 'funny' guys were actually perverts, praying on the teenagers who trusted them

I graduated high school in 1972 and remember the mini skirts, bell bottoms and hip huggers with a wide belt. Do you remember shirts we wore with hip hungers to keep the shirt tucked in, they had snaps in the crotch? We called them body suits.
I remember the white lip stick and shag hair cuts too.
