I can't imagine how difficult that was and how brave you were to do that. I'm so sorry that you are sad and have to deal with this situation, but you did do the right thing. Safety was an issue and you needed to protect yourself and your DH and son.
As a mom of a kid on the spectrum myself, I support you and respect what you had to do. Don't be too hard on yourself. It's a tough lesson that your DS has to learn. Hitting is never a solution.
Hugs.

I'm sorry, Elaine.
I know that you have a very heavy load to carry as a parent, and from reading your posts over the years, I know that you work extremely hard with and for your kids. It can only imagine how heartbreaking it is to be treated that way by your child and to have to take the steps you took. Hugs

I'm so sorry you had to do that. I know what an autism breakdown looks like.. my son is 6'5" and 220 so could do some damage. It's so hard, and you have my deep sympathy. You did the right thing and no one ever promised us it was easy.

How disturbing. I just watched the segment on Creigh Deeds. Wow. That is just terrifying. What in the world can a parent even do? I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. It is truly heartbreaking.

Big, giant ((hugs)). I'm not there yet but I've had a boot on my foot, a cast on my arm, and an injured back from taking care of my son who is seven. His brother is 6'3". I hope you heal well from your surgeries.

I'm sorry. I hope that after this all settles down your son begins to realize the consequences for his actions. I also hope that this serves as a lesson to him in the future that he can't hit people when he's upset.
You absolutely did the right thing. But I realize that doesn't make it any easier. ((HUGS))

When my now 19 year old DS was 13, I spent several evenings locked in my room out of fear. He too has autism and was much bigger than me even at that age. I never had to call the police, but I really thought I was going to have to a time or two. Prayers and hugs for you.
ETA: He is now the most gentle soul in the world. Hang in there and hopefully when the hormones calm down things will get better.
