I am another that gets turned off when performers start spouting political stuff from the stage...I get that they do it and it is a free country and all that, but *for me*, I just get really irritated about it. That's just me and a reason I won't support certain bands or artists. I also get that they are artists and much of their work is based on deeply held beliefs. Thats cool...I just don't want to hear it when I have paid good $$$ for a concert. What I find bothersome is the context in which DT's picture was displayed. We are discussing violence at Trump rallies and how unacceptable it is yet here are the DC showing a (stupid) picture of DT while singing a song about killing a man and how it is justified that he was killed. Does it seem hypocritical to anyone else or am I just being overly sensitive about it? I think you've summed it up quite well.

Do you also condemn conservative celebrities for doing the same thing? I can't remember – did you express outrage with Clint Eastwood after his, well, whatever that was he did at the Republican convention 4 years ago? BTW--I have tickets for their August 7 so in Austin and I cannot wait!! I'm pretty sure it's sold out...so...yeah... I don't really give a flying fig about what performers on either side do a a political Convention to me that's a huge DUH if you expect someone at a political convention not to be political. Comparing the two is like comparing apples to eggs. I don't generally want to listen to a political tirade at a concert that I paid mega bucks for tickets. This is one reason why I don't bother buying tickets for pretty much anyone anymore. Because if it's not being subjected to a lengthy boring political tirade then it's possibly too drunk or stoned to perform coherently. I really don't need to pay for that either. You want to mouth off at a POLITICAL convention go ahead. Who cares. You want to bore people with your droning on about your personal viewpoint on any subject political or otherwise then go to a free venue to do it. then it's fair game so to speak. Don't charge $100's of dollars to subject people to it. I do think the picture is childish and stupid. I'm not voting for Trump either way but her middle school picture isn't going to be the reason. Trump being an ass will pretty much be the reason. And look I gave you my opinion free of charge.

They, a lot like the other media outlets, just can't resist giving him free publicity.
Pretty sure Natalie's last media stunt did actually cost her a career...and apparently she learned nothing from it.
Which makes her the not so bright one.
For the record, I am a fan of the Dixie Chicks music before from before the last fiasco. I kept the CDs I already owned and still have them in regular rotation. Their music was good.
I wouldn't go to a concert today because I believe in the "shut up and sing" rule and clearly they don't get it.

IMO, if you pay for a concert they should shut up and sing. It's an insult to their audience members on the other side of the aisle. Anyone with brains would know that. They could be making more money but chose to be stupid instead. Exactly-if I wanted to go to a political rally I would.

Their songs express the same opinions you are railing against in this thread, as multiple people are trying to explain to you. And you're *still* using their own words incorrectly. I wasn't aware that I was using their words, either correctly or incorrectly. Sure you weren't ...

I have said he was childish and ridiculous as well. But you will still vote for him? You won't give the Dixie Chicks a dime of your money, but you will give Donald Trump your VOTE? She's not going to answer you--she's going off on her obtuse and circular game playing method now!

This is NOT a first amendment issue. The government (!!) is the only one who can silence you for it to apply. I can tell you to shut up and you have the choice not to. You do not need an amendment to speak freely. I encourage you who like to throw out the first amendment argument you actually know what you are talking about. Being an asshole is being an asshole. Telling you that you are an ass and should shut up and sing is not a violation of any amendment.
I like women who are on the world's stage and show they have a backbone! I don't want them to "play nice." You might think they are immature, but they aren't wrong expressing an opinion many have .

It offends YOU, but most likely doesn't offend their audience who know the Dixie Chicks, their politics, and that they share them. People generally don't spend $100+ to go to a concert - with tickets, parking, food, etc. - if they don't know the artist. Why is this so difficult for you?

Y'all keep saying that, but they have won 5 Grammys since that "fiasco," and they are the top selling female group of all time. Their current tour is very successful despite the fact that mainstream country radio still will not play them. They took a break to get away from the bullshit, DEATH THREATS, and to raise their kids. I think they're doing just fine... Here's the deal – I know that Ted Nugent is going to spew extreme right-wing hate speech at his shows. So if I choose to go, I cannot pretend to be surprised or offended. The Dixie chicks are a very outspoken, liberal group. You cannot go to their show and pretend to be surprised or offended if they express their views in the same manner.

link to sourceEven hymns, such as "swing low sweet chariot" and "go down, Moses" have been sung as political songs. Art is always a reflection of the culture from which it was born/created - some artists/musicians choose to reflect the political climate. It has been that way since long before the Dixie Chicks or Ted Nugent were born. It is nonsensical to expect all music - or any other art form - to be completely devoid of the political culture In which the artist lives. .

And, FWIW, their shows sell out, so they aren't losing a penny by you (or others who are offended by them) not purchasing a ticket. There is always someone else who will buy that ticket you didn't. In fact, for this tour, the demand for tickets has been so astronomical that they have had to add dates.
If you think that they are losing money from you, or any of the others you claim are offended, you don't understand basic economics.

I support the Dixie Chicks' right to express whatever views they wish. When they received backlash with the GWB thing, they didn't back down. And they did suffer for it. That's the very definition of being willing to stand for your beliefs. Good on them.
That said, I find it hypocritical for them to mock DT this way while they and many others decry Trump's mockery of others. If he's so terrible, why stoop to his level? You (general you) lose all moral high ground when you do.

<snip> Pretty sure Natalie's last media stunt did actually cost her a career...and apparently she learned nothing from it. Which makes her the not so bright one. <snip> Actually, the group claims they learned a lot from the last brouhaha. If you read any interviews with them, they report they were left reeling from the backlash, boycotts, and threats - which profoundly affected them financially and emotionally. They've said they are grateful to the fans who stuck with them, the fans they gained, and how the incident influenced their subsequent music. They've definitely made some very purposeful choices since then. To me, that doesn't demonstate stupidity or lack of introspection - no matter what I think about their politics or their decision to continue integrating it into their music.
