Not to hijack the thread... But do you all have a favorite website for a little instant pot 101 and basic/beginner recipes? Is there a one stop shop for info? I am not on Facebook or Pinterest (with no plans to change that). I did a Google search last night and just turned up a lot of random bits and pieces on general mommy blogs (for lack of a better term). I feel like I am going to end up wasting any time saved with the pot itself by spending tons of time online trying to find recipes and such. Being late to the party on this one, I am feeling a bit overwhelmed trying to get up to speed with it all. Thanks! Amanda, the Craftsy Class is on sale today for $19.99 - it is called "Make the Most of Your Pressure Cooker." Thank you! I need to go check that out! Almost ordered one last night but Amazon prime would have delivered it tomorrow and we are going out of town for the weekend so more time to contemplate taking the plunge! Ha ha

And honestly, at $119, it is quite a bargain. I have yet to have anyone who has bought one and tried at least three things in it come back and told me they regretted the purchase. I wish!!! These babies are made in Canada and they are 165.00 on Amazon.ca!!!!

Yeah, for whatever reason, once an appliance is more than $150, it seems like a MUCH bigger investment. I don't blame you and and your husband wanting to be sure that you'll use it enough to make it worthwhile.

I just picked up a 7 pound pork butt roast for $12 that will make two batches of pulled pork in the Instant Pot. I will just cut it in half and freeze half for a future dinner. We will have pulled pork for dinner tomorrow night and it will only take 50 minutes to cook it! (Well, an hour accounting for the time it will take to come up to pressure).

With meat prices skyrocketing in the past couple of years, I buy bonus/family packs for the savings and will buy whatever is on sale if I can figure out something to make with it. I also bought a 2-pack of whole chickens at $0.97 per pound there to make on my rotisserie. With 2 teenage boys I have to cook 2 whole chickens at a time - 1 isn't enough - but that way I can make awesome chicken stock in my large Instant Pot and have leftover meat for chicken soup.

The Instant Pot has been the best purchase I've made in years. I use it 2 or 3 nights a week, not bad considering we go out once or twice too. It looks much more complicated to use than it actually is - put food and liquid inside, put top on, push button, leave it alone, wait. Easy. Love that it doesn't heat up the kitchen - good for SW Florida at any time of year! I've gotten a lot of ideas from the weekly thread on here, the FB group is great, too. If you don't have one, you need one.

Cuts of meat that are typically "low and slow" all-day-in-the-slow-cooker are great in electric pressure cookers. And I love having it done in an hour vs. 8-10. I now only cook my pot roasts, brisket, and corned beef in my Instant Pot.

It figures that there isn't a Walmart near me. The closest one, I think, is the one down in Alexandria. And that's not around the corner. Maybe one of the DC ones is closer but there's no way in heck that I'd drive into DC for Walmart. However, I might make a trip down to the Alexandria one someday. eta: Actually, there's no way in heck I'd drive into DC for anything, lol. Unless it's with dh and we're going to park in the garage at his work.

Here's my confession. I have a digital pressure cooker. It's not an Instant Pot. I bought it from QVC. It's a 4-quart. I bought it for the smaller size. I love it. After reading this thread for the last couple of days...well, the Great Big Pressure Cooker Cookbook, the gripper thingy, the bundt pan and the springform pan came yesterday. The Instant Pot was supposed to come too but it was delayed and should be here today. I joined the Facebook group and wow... Thanks, ladies.

Almost word for word, my post could be yours TXMary! My Instant Pot came yesterday (even though I got a message saying it would be delayed) along with the gripper thingy. The bundt and cheescake pans are in my "save for later" cart, and I joined the FB group as well. And yes... wow! I created a new Pinterest board for pressure cooker stuff and have been pinning away. I also discoverd that my granddaughter has one so we've agreed to learn together, and now my daughter-in-law wants one! My ex has one too and gave me a recipe! The Instant Pot enabling is alive and well across the country! lol I plan on spending today reading the user manual. My thanks too for all the rah-rah-yay! from everyone! I'm looking forward to a new cooking adventure.

Really we get screwed on all the US products supposedly because we import them but the one Canadian product we can't even get a cheap price?? I think this thread and going and reading through some of the recipe threads has made me want one. Anything to make healthy good cooking easier on me, I'm in!

My Instant pop should just be called the bean and soup pot! I cook beans with meat in them: black eyed peas with boneless pork chops, 16 bean soup mix with diced ham steak, corn and potato soup with bacon or ham, leak and potato soup with chicken or bacon or ham, veggie soup with chicken ( no beef since I have an allergy to it), pinto beans with bacon, etc. These make great lunches. I love the fall off the bone whole chicken, got a great recipe off pinterest, the pulled pork for sandwiches, and I use a pork roast for my pot roast with all the veggies. I do whole baked potatoes, new potatoes, carrots, corn on the cob. I have a set of stackable pans for the pressure cooker so I can do two veggie dishes at once. Cheesecakes or ok, but brownies are awesome! My husband love the way I cook asparagus using the steamer, steam them, take them out, lightly season and sprinkle with garlic powder and parmesan. And cornbread in the pressure cooker is so moist and delicious. I use a lot of Miss Vickie's Pressure Cooker recipes form her website and book. I am not real big on my meats that need a glaze type finish or anything like that, but most meats seem to have a really deeply infused seasoned flavor. I haven't made oatmeal or yogurt in the Instant pot. We aren't too big on that. I did come across a recipe for ricotta that I want to try though. For the most part, I just use the cooking charts for vegetables, meats, etc. on Pinterest on in the recipe books as guidelines for pressure and times to cook with. Or, I follow the recipes. If I don't use a recipes, I refer to the guidelines for the pressure and times chart or a similar recipe to what I want to do, but use my own ingredient, just making sure to have the right amount of liquid. I haven't missed on anything yet, although one or two could have done a little better. By the way, something to think about added to the list of must haves, is an emulsion blender. I use this for blending up my beans and soups a bit so they are smoother. It's also great for mashed potatoes-did I mention mashed potatoes made in the Instant Pot are to did for? ? And what you can do with sweet potatoes............

What size InstaPot do you have and why? I am leaning towards the 8 qt because I already have a six qt crockpot and I think it is too small.

If you want to make large pots of soup, stock, or chili, go as large as you can. You can still cook 1 cup in an 8 quart pressure cooker (it is different than a slow cooker), but you can't fill a pressure cooker more than 3/4 full or the vents, etc., won't work. I use the 8 quart for soup, chili and ribs, because with my family, I have to make 2 full racks at a time.

OK. I caved!
A 6 qt bluetooth instapot is on its way, along with a cookbook, the lifter thing someone linked, and a glass lid. I just really like the option to program and monitor.
The regular 6 qt I was looking at, the latest model of the non bluetooth, is no longer in stock.
I think it unlikely they would choose this one on prime day and I know I would be disappointed if I had to wait for a restock.
We'll see if any show up on prime day!

Ok, what else do I need besides the Instant Pot itself? I see mention of a steamer, trivet, tongs, pan for baking. What size is the inside of the Pot? Now fingers crossed that Canada Post doesn't go on strike before it can be delivered! They were supposed to start their strike 11 days ago and are still trying to avoid it.

I found a fold out circle steamer and a small springform pan at Goodwill. Figured worth the risk at 99 cents each.
