I did it!!! I am now a brand new Amazon Prime member, anxiously awaiting delivery of my shiny new Insta Pot, handle, spare pot, and two cookbooks (one is out of stock right now, though)... the estimated delivery is Friday, July 15th!! (we'll see if that holds true...) <--- this will be my BF's face when I tell him about it... or maybe this: , or even this: or this: But hopefully it will change to one of these: if I actually start cooking (better, home-cooked food) more often! Make a pork roast to shred for bbq (50 minutes). Or meatloaf (18 minutes). Or whatever is his favorite. He'll be happy. lolol. I told my dh this evening, as he was eating his meatloaf, that thanks to this pot he could have it much more often. It's his favorite and I make it rarely and only in the winter because I'm not willing to put the oven on for an hour in the summer. He said "anything that makes meatloaf appear more often is golden in my opinion." hahaha

I have managed to avoid this thread for a whole week until now...... and now I want one...... only to discover that the Instant Pot WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE IN AUSTRALIA UNTIL AUGUST / SEPTEMBER!!!!! Do you know how frustrating it is to be enabled but then unfulfilled?!?! Oh well, at least I should be able to get one for my birthday. ETA: Is it Insta Pot or Instant Pot? I can only find Instant Pot on google but people on this thread are calling it Insta Pot. I'm confused!

Okay, all you enablers! I bought one of these fancy pots on amazon today and am hoping I can figure it out. Looking forward to trying some new recipes! The peas have convinced me to purchase yet another item that I didn't know I needed, but it's all good!

Okay. After listening to all the raves and positive recommendations about this thing for the past year or so I'm more than a little impressed with how I missed every thread until now. It'll be here with the cookbook and tongs elaine the Enabler said were needed too. Actually, it's for my son and he's very excited about it.

It is a pressure cooker but so much safer and easier than old pressure cookers. It's also a slow cooker, yogurt maker, and you can saute in it. I was resistant for the same reasons but kept thinking about one. The day I decided I actually wanted one, I happened to see a brand new one in the box on our local Next Door message board. I snagged that thing so fast . . . I use it several times a week and haven't pulled out my slow cooker once since I got it. I gave away all my slow cookers, except for my Ninja 4-1, and haven't missed them at all. Last night I made green beans in one and steamed sweet corn on the cob in the other and grilled hot dogs. Dinner was ready in 15 minutes! I have a gallon of yogurt in my 6 qt one fermenting right now. The Instant Pot also works as an awesome rice cooker - as good as my zojirushi. deshacrafts , if you click on my name and then click on "threads started" you will find all the weekly/bi-weekly pressure cooker threads. There are lots of great recipes and tips. I've been debating a ninja 4-1. Since you have both, which is more versatile?

When they sell it with the correct plug and voltage for Australia. I'm sorry that it isn't available for you now that you are ready to make the purchase. But August/September is just around the corner.

For me, the IP is much more versatile, but depending on your cooking style, it might not be the same for you.

We don't have a pressure cooker, I've refused to allow one in the house, ever. I really never saw myself bending either. I was burned quite severely as a child by one exploding. Is there still a chance that could happen with this one? I'm on the fence. DH is going to think I'm nuts, i have been that adamant.

Just say the words "pork bbq" or "ribs" or "cheesecake", accompanied by photos, and see if that helps him make a decision. lol We have a smoker...he says he can do all of that on there. I said " who wants smoked cheesecake? " lol I think it will be better for us in fall/winter and he can't smoke in the snow. Total sidetrack here - one of my favorite memories is when my late husband cooked amazing steak for us one Christmas on a grill out in the snow.

I found a couple of closed fb groups. I generally don't join public groups. I've joined quite a few groups in the past several years that are topic specific. They have been wonderful.

When you use the tinfoil sling, how do you close the lid? Do you leave it all inside?
Does the trivet come with the pot?

I've been debating a ninja 4-1. Since you have both, which is more versatile? Two differences that swayed me towards the Instant Pot are the Ninja 4-in-1 has a non-stick coating and I didn't want that. The Instant Pot is available in 8 qt and I want the larger size. That said, my friend LOVES her Ninja 4-in-1. She uses it multiple times a week and it has a permanent place on her counter.
