He gave a good speech at the Dallas memorial service but then acted inappropriately by smiling and dancing during the Battle Hymn of the Republic. link

That was a little inappropriate but I think he was enjoying the music and feeling patriotic. I'm not a GWB fan but I think he just wasn't thinking about being at a memorial service, he was just thinking that the music was inspirational.

He doesn't look well physically to me and even Laura was giving him looks when he began dancing.

That is really odd. Maybe he was just somewhere in his head that made it unfortunate for him to be in public view? Like, perhaps he was feeling inspired by the service of the fallen officers? Celebratory of their lives? Instead of feeling super somber? The music just made him feel joyful?
I don't imagine that he would ever be disrespectful on purpose, and I actually don't classify this as disrespectful. Just...odd. And super noticeable.

Odd behavior, IMO.

Something seemed off. Fell off the wagon perhaps? I don't remember that being a typical thing he would have done as president; especially at a funeral.

My father and I watched it together yesterday and both thought his behavior was odd.
It's a stirring song, yes, and they changed the dynamics with every verse, so he did respond to the peppiest part, but still...
I think it was just a blunder on his part. I did feel bad for both women - his wife because she seemed a bit embarrassed and Mrs. Obama because he seemed be trying to engage her more in the arm-swinging and smiling. Put her in an awkward position.

Michelle looked at him like he was out of his mind at :22.
Doofus behavior. Not sure if he was just Bushing or if he has something wrong with him.

That was bizarre. I also wondering if he fell off the wagon. Really no other explanation unless he was having some sort of dementia thing which would be sad - both situations are sad actually and if I had been Laura I wouldn't have allowed him to swing my arm, but kept it rigid like it looks like Michelle is, trying to keep him from swaying.
Also odd is everyone is wearing black or very dark blue suits and he stands out wearing a blue suit. Almost like he showed up by himself and didn't put on the suit that Laura put out for him type of thing.

Maybe he was wearing Blue as in "Back the Blue" as a show of support to the police force.

Sorry, perhaps I should have said , not surprising behavior. I certainly can't be the only one (Texan here) who thinks Bush is not the sharpest crayon in the box. My feelings none the less.

This is why I love Two peas! George W. Bush gives a beautiful address at the memorial service and then he gets a little too caught up in a rousing rendention of The Battle Hymn of the Republic and suddenly he has fallen off the wagon, is suffering from dementia and refusing to wear the clothes Laura lays out for him.

I don't know what was causing it, but it was inappropriate, in my opinion, under the circumstances. Did he forget he was at a memorial service for murdered policemen?

I highly doubt he was drunk because he had just done very well giving a speech (a good one, too.)
I'm certainly no fan - maybe he just got caught up in the music and forgot where he was? It's pretty weird behavior, but I'm not willing to think he was drunk.

Here is what I took away from President Bush's address:
"Too often we judge other groups by their worst examples while judging ourselves by our best intentions."
Well said. I am taking that to heart and examining my own biases.

I am taking that to heart and examining my own biases. Of all the things that were said, that was the think that has stuck with me as well. So much so that I wrote it down so I would remember to share it with my son this morning over breakfast.

I agree with you. He's not on my side politically, but sheesh - we have bigger fish to fry, y'all. This message board was started because a scrapping website went out of business. It's a weird little corner of the internet. Comments on these threads don't matter in the grand scheme of things. It may be because of the way I approach this place. What happens on 2 peas, stays on 2 peas. I'm not going to discuss IRL that he looked drunk. I'm not going to say "well I learned on a message board..." I make a comment on a thread and move on. I swear, every time I forget to use one of those damn smilies, people take me seriously. It was said tongue in cheek. Sometimes the tone of the posts are lost. Anyway, if you want bigger fish to fry, this place is useless.

Some of us just can't help responding to music. I dance in church! And he did seem to share a comment with Obama that made them both smile.... I sure am glad that I don't live in a world where everything I do is judged
