I think in a way I am glad for this election cycle. I have been living in a blissful little happy bubble where until recently wasn't exposed to the private lives and thoughts of much of the country. Now I am forced to take off my rose colored glasses and take a real look at my world. I am disheartened by the election outcome and am having trouble reconciling the generalizations with the reality of everyday kindnesses that I see.

Before anyone jumps down my throat, I'm not saying ALL Trump voters are racists but it has unfortunately opened my eyes a little wider to some people in my life who I know cast a ballot solely due to race/sex. I've lost respect for them and I can't ever get that back. It's sad. It's also reminded me that so often the most "Christian/religious" among us are those who follow Christ's teachings the least.

exactly how conservatives have felt for the past 8 yrs... 8 yrs later and looking at the red map shows what the majority of the country thinks about what DBO and his supporters have done to our country. Tonight had an awful lot to do with a lot of people realizing they are not ok with a woman in the White House. And when a man promises to let them be racist publicly, they think that is cool as shit. This is based on people in real life in my office an on my facebook feed. This feels more Clinton specific...more #neverClinton to be precise.

I'm shocked. I'm not American. I live near the border. The best I can do to "protest" is to stay on my side of the border. I won't be visiting the US for long weekends, spending $ in hotels, spending money on shopping trips. I do leave for a cruise out of the US next year but other than that, I'll redirect my spending and keep my money in Canada. I like the American people but I can't support your choice for President. It's probably an insignificant "punishment" but he just doesn't align with my morals. I do not blame you at all. If I were not an American there is no way I would come to this country now. I wouldn't come for vacation/shopping, and I sure wouldn't be looking to immigrate here now. This is a sad day. I am actually sad to be an American.

I choose not to post on any of the political threads. But I just need to say. I am not afraid of Trump. I am more afraid of the people who support him. He has opened up a can of worms that can not be closed. I feel for the average everyday person who will have to deal with them.

Yep. I had to do some major unfollowing on Facebook with a lot of my long-time friends and family members. I can't bring myself to block them or unfriend them, because I do love most of them. But I can't stand the gloating. I didn't gloat on social media either time Obama won. I didn't berate any of McCain or Romney's supporters when they lost on social media, nor did I flaunt it in their faces. And yet I am seeing a TON of that from family and long time friends. I will never understand the gleefulness with which people are calling for repeals of Obamacare, gay marriage, and abortion rights. Are these people even thinking how taking all of that away is going to impact everyone in this country? I'm not gay and am not seeking an abortion, but I am using Obamacare, as we are self employed. If it gets yanked away with nothing to replace it, just what is my family supposed to do for health insurance? I have a kid with a kidney issue (not severe), and I'm pregnant. I MUST have health insurance. A dear friend of mine recently had a baby with her wife. They are in a full blown panic over whether or not their marriage will continue to be recognized in this country. Obviously none of these things are going away tomorrow, but damn. People are seriously worried about these things. And thy are not little worries. They are huge.

I don't think this is about voters not being ready for a women president - this about the blue collar Reagan Democrats being fed up with the Democratic party not doing anything to help their economic situation. I posted an article way back during the primaries that looked at who was supporting Trump. It doesn't look like this board keeps posts from that far back so I can't repost. I utterly ignored Trump during the early part of the primary season as I thought it was a pure publicity stunt - when he started running I looked closer. He deliberately tapped into the exact same voter demographic that put Reagan in office. Even last night when polls were closing the talking heads on CNN were talking about how Trump didn't have a chance as winning the rust belt was the Republican "unicorn" and the demographics of the country were just becoming more skewed to the Democrats favor. Well the unicorn showed up last night. Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania - only Pennsylvania was supposed to be a swing state and most pundits thought it was a total reach to go Republican.

A dear friend of mine recently had a baby with her wife. They are in a full blown panic over whether or not their marriage will continue to be recognized in this country. On a federal level, how can this be overturned when the Supreme Court has said same sex marriage is valid? I know some states have made getting an abortion tougher, but the Roe v Wade decision remains. I'm trying to see how at a local level, states could do anything because it's such a straight forward thing. I feel dumb for asking and I'm running on little sleep this morning; 2 early mornings with my son and late nights for me.

This. And, sadly, the undercurrent of sexism, racism, and bigotry that was stuffed down by political correctness came back to the surface. People are angry about jobs, money, security, immigrants. He appealed to them as the answer. I cannot believe he won. So many people are now at risk. Utterly disheartening.

yes, we did that last night after years and years of listening to the liberal njs and having them viciously attack our country, how it was founded and what it has stood for since its founding and our constitution and constitutional rights, our beliefs and way of life.
yet liberals have just railroaded those who don't agree with them forcing their ways on us (and our kids) and that's ok...
that is certainly the path liberals have taken in the past few decades (at least) and more so the last 8 yrs - and want to continue to take.

Do you remember in 2008 when Obama won… And all the people on Two Peas that hated him were SURE the world was going to end...and they were going to go and dig bomb shelters in their backyards....And they started (for real) stocking up on food and even seeds to start growing their own food.... and ammo because Obama was going to repeal the second amendment… and they started buying gold because that was going to be the only currency that was worth anything… and...oh yeah.... remember how they had to get their guns handy because they were sure that they were going to be gun fights in the streets on election night (that was a good one). and he has tried over and over again to do that... you might be surprised what could still come down the road that will be a result of his admin. yes, actually he did. he did say he'd go after the coal mines and guns. some other things he just lied to us about - like believing marriage is between a man and a woman. He (as does HC) claim to be Christian yet deny one of the most important relationships God created.
a wall between here and Mexico is needed. there are 10s of 1000s coming over our border. and 80% of the OTMs are from the ME. they aren't coming here for a job to support their families... DBO called off the border agents requiring them to just let people come on in... those who are here illegally shouldn't be surprised if they are sent back. tho, my understanding is he plans to deport those in gangs, committing crimes etc. that itself will take a very long time - after how many DBO has just let in willy nilly.
no he does not want to punish women for abortions - but the doctors would be good! this country has killed over 60 million babies since R vs W. It will pay for the innocent blood it has shed.
you're afraid of the imaginary boogeyman made up by the left.

There are women and men here saying that "she should have known better" that " a woman shouldn't do women's work" and it was their first time not voting democratic because they don't want a women in the white house.
Otherwise, the racist comments are basically along the lines of Trump - no more rapists and drug dealers because Trump will get rid of the Mexicans and Blacks. It is disgusting.

That's horrible. Not sure where you are (midwest?), but here in Oregon it's all about Clinton/DNC corruption and how they have no one to blame but themselves for this outcome. It's not "a woman shouldn't" it is specifically "#NeverHillary". A lot of people I know voted Jill Stein...so, the gender thing isn't the issue here.

I really hope Trump will work to bring the country together. But let's not forget that even though Obama made those claims, after he was elected, his mantra became "we won" whenever called upon to compromise. What I'm seeing now is Hillary supporters now saying all the things Republicans have said over the last 8 years and expecting the Republican President to act in a way their candidate did not. As I've said before, it's best to keep in mind that the tables always turn in American politics and that whatever you support in your own candidate will come back to be used against you in the future. I have to sadly admit that I don't believe that anyone can bring this country together. The divide is just too big. Yep. I told hubs since the west is more blue (bigger area even if not state wise) we should separate blue on the west and red on the east. Only partly in jest. The divide starting here that isn't violent is the same type of thing happening with the divide in places like Iraq...some things are too big to overcome.

This election has brought me to a level of understanding I never thought possible. I now understand how people can feel so disgusted they take a knee during the national anthem. I don't even begin to know how I face my daughter tomorrow and tell her some p*ssy grabbing ahole has the rights to her uterus. Yep. I am dreading having to explain to my 7 year old daughter just how the hell Donald Trump got voted in as our next president. She's pretty perceptive. She tries to watch the news every night with us, though I try to not let her because I don't want her exposed to all the nasty mud flinging they have been reporting lately. And all the hate. So much hate. But she knows that Donald Trump is not a good person. They talked about his wall he wants to build along Mexico at school today. She doesn't understand why he wants to block off an entire country from us. I am gutted that I will have to tell her that the lady she wanted to vote for president didn't win. The smart, rational woman doesnt get to be president, and Donald Trump does. And then we get to have the conversation about how your person doesn't always get to win and how that's ok. And how even though we are not happy that he's our president that we must still show respect for the office and his position as our president. And normally I would not have any problem with that. Because it is a lesson we all must learn at some point. Except it's probably not ok in this case. You could very well be right. But it's not Trump's fault. This divide has been building for a long time. The hell it isn't. Did you not listen to the cheeto when he spoke? He thrives on animosity and loves to play people against one another. Anyone who isn't a rich cisgendered white man is less than. Black, LBGTQ, Mexicans, Muslim, Jewish, women, the disabled were all favorite targets of his during the election. Can't imagine he's going to start any campfires and encourage us all to hold hands and sing Kumbyah. No, he helped create it and he'll damned well enjoy it.

I know in my area, the #neverhillary was stronger than any Hillary support. No one really liked Trump, but #neverhillary. And they felt they didnt have a choice.
It was never about not wanting a woman in the Oval Office. Had Elizabeth Warren been the woman, I do believe she would have won. But #neverhillary was out in full force.

Simply based on her actions in the whole Bengazi incident made it to where people would not - could not - ever vote for her. Add in the email scandal, and well, people did not trust her. But her actions made it where to people did not trust her. Personally, I think its time for a woman in the White House. I just do not think Hillary was the right person. Again, Elizabeth Warren? Im on board. Nikki Haley? I am on board. But I never could get past not trusting Hillary.

It was never about not wanting a woman in the Oval Office. Had Elizabeth Warren been the woman, I do believe she would have won. But #neverhillary was out in full force. That's how it was here too. It was never a man vs. woman thing. As you all know I very desperately wanted to vote for Jill Stein, but even more than that I wanted to keep Hillary Clinton out of the White House. NOT because she is a woman. But because I believe she is a corrupt criminal who is very dangerous (much more than Donald Trump), so I held my nose and at the last minute changed my vote to Donald Trump. And I wanted to do everything I could to keep her out of the White House. Please let me also remind all of you upset about this outcome that many polls long ago said that if the Democrats ran with Bernie Sanders that he would beat Donald Trump. But if they ran with Hillary Clinton that Donald Trump would come out the winner. This has come true. The DNC and Hillary Clinton have no one to blame but themselves. I did not want Donald Trump in the White House. I wanted Bernie Sanders. But I'd rather take Donald Trump over what I believe is a far more dangerous Hillary Clinton (give her proven record thus far) any day. Today we have the result we have. I for one am glad it's over.

The only positive I can see coming out of this is now that the Republicans have control of everything, they can no longer make excuses. All the blaming of the Communist/Satan what have you in the White House for all the nations ills? Time to find a new scapegoat since they will be firmly in control. Time to actually action change since there shouldn't be anything or anyone standing in their way. Except for Trump himself.
I do have a great deal of concern for the Supreme Court as those appointments will last far longer than this presidency. Whilst many are saying, "it's only 4 years", it could take decades to recover from those 4 years. I don't see him changing from a self-centred racist, misogynistic demagogue; maybe I'll be proven wrong.
