Specifically pineapple and flamingos? I've noticed those two motifs showing up a lot in recent collections. I honestly don't mind them because I live in central Florida and have quite a few flamingo pictures to scrapbook, and my kids go to a school with Pineapple in the name! I currently own both a pineapple print cardigan and Old Navy pineapple shorts. We are big fans of pineapples around here because of school name. Anyway, while both motifs work for me, I think I would be annoyed if I lived anywhere else and had to figure out how to integrate them into my everyday scrapbooking. Kind of like getting cactus prints... we definitely don't have cactus in central Florida and I never know what to do with them. I have three adorable rubber cactus from an older SC collection... but I'm not sure how to use them. They are seriously cute, so I am hanging on to them for now!

I don't mind flamingos - I love flamingos and always snap pictures at the zoo. Pineapples - are a little trickier - I do have a pineapple die that I've gotten decent use out of - for historic seaports mostly (Savannah, Newport...)
But I'm not a fan in general of the random motif that all of a sudden is everywhere. I'm fine with themed stuff (if I bought a camping/outdoors collection - wildlife is awesome) but for non-themed stuff, I want it to work with a wider range

We are heading to Punta Cana next month. I am loading up on both of those. When we were in Jamaica, a waiter gave my son his vest that had pineapples on it. I have used quite a few pineapples since then.

I don't like very specific motifs like those. No pineapples or flamingos here and I basically have no use for them. Maybe if I had a tropical holiday planned, or was going flamingo spotting I might feel differently

I actually haven't seen any of these particular themes. I had collected lots of pineapple stuff over years because, like linda, I scrap lots of pineapple stuff and it means welcome. I picked up some lovely Little B pineapple washi. I would probably use some of it for any island or Hawaii layouts. Flamingos - well I would pretty much have to be scrapping flamingos to use them. How are others using them? I could see them being a lot more fun than mustaches.

I don't like either. I live in a desert climate with 4 seasons and I don't travel. I'm not going to try to incorporate them into my everyday scrapping. I can only think of 1 page I would do using pineapples, and even then it's not a page I'm dying to make.

I like pineapple but I am a sucker for pretty much anything fruit themed. Like myboysnme says, it is a traditional symbol of "welcome" and while that may not be great for scrapbookers that much, it's a good theme for cardmakers. Welcome, thanks for your hospitality, you're sweet... all go with that image. And there's a cute little phrase that says "stand tall, be sweet, wear a crown. Be a pineapple." which I think is a sweet little encouragement thing for a pineapple card. Also, pineapple (and flamingos) make me thing of sunny and cheery things. I even sort of get succulents, although more as home decor than anything. But what I do NOT get are llamas and sloths.

pineapples and flamingos are everywhere in home decor too just walk through Target, Marshalls and Joann's
I think it's great for summer - I almost bought some pineapple kitchen towels - because it's been such a long, cold winter around here I definitely think I'll get the Old Navy jammie pants
a couple of summers ago it was all navy anchors and gold knots so I guess this is just the 2017 summer motif

I am definitely not a fan of super specific images unless they are part of a themed line. Flamingos in a zoo collection? No problem. Flamingos in a birthday collection? Not so happy.
I feel the same way about lots of the trendy images we've seen in the last few years. It has gotten to the point that I will just toss out anything I don't anticipate I will use (gone are all the glasses and moustaches from my collection) and there have been several things I would have purchased if it were not for the proliferation of random icons.
I find it interesting that such themed scrapbooking is so mainstream again after so many years of the industry telling us we didn't need a flamingo for a page about flamingos.

I don't love them, but as random motifs go they're not the worst. I would actually sooner use either than glasses or mustaches.
I wouldn't personally use flamingos on a page with flamingos in the photos - to me that feels like overkill unless it's very subtle. I guess I might use them on summery cards. They're not as cool as owls, but better than some of the other weird animal stickers I've seen around.
Pineapples give me mixed feelings ever since I learned (from scrapbookers here, I think) about their association with slavery. But I also associate them with Hawaii and other things that are happy. So, like I say - mixed feelings. I won't be running out to get any pineapple and flamingo supplies.
(I live in the Pacific NW and come from NZ, just for reference)

I only have pineapple paper, no flamingos.
MIL and FIL took a vacation to Hawaii many years ago, so I could use it for that if I ever find the pictures. Other than that, I can only thank of a fruit salad themed page? We usually go to the mountains for vacations.
Oh, there's Disney! I have Lilo and Stitch pages to scrap!

I think they're mostly kind of cute, but I buy the die cuts and stickers in spite of them, not because of them.
If Crate Paper or Pink Paislee or any of the others sold packages of just journaling spots, labs, tags, iconic shapes (hearts and stars, for ex), and tabs to match a collection, I would buy those in a heartbeat over the animal/themed icon package.
That's one of the things I like about Elle's Studio collections, come to think of it. Lots of labels and stars, no animals or mustaches.

I love all the references to the infamous mustache phase of scrapbooking... I am so glad collections are no longer mustache themed. I didn't like it then and I don't like it now! Pineapples and flamingos work for my scrapbook pages because of where I live (and my boys' school), but I'm guessing the next motif(s) will be less versatile for me. It is odd that theme specific products are popping up in everyday collections. carolynhasacat I would love, love, love for a company to create sheets of label stickers. I would buy them up so fast! One color per sheet, multiple styles/sizes per sheet. I like the border to be a color but the inside of each label to be white.

Not a huge fan but I thought those were last year. There were several lines with them last summer. This year I'm seeing lumber jacks and cactus (again) and succulents. I am liking the cactus more as I have been to the dessert a few times in recent months and didn't buy any last year. Flamingos are cute but can't picture really scrapping With them. Same with the lama even though I know of an adorable stamp coming out on the first . I'm also liking the palm trees since we have them in our backyard. I do prefer any of these themes to mustaches and chandeliers though. Glasses didn't bother me since we all wear them.

I find pineapples easier than flamingos. Pineapples are traditionally a sign of hospitality/welcome and can be used in neutral colors or metallics instead of the bolder yellow/green.

I think both flamingos and Pineapples are fun general summery image. All my husband has a thing for yard flamingo's and we have 3 in our yard. I like to layer bit and bobs on my layouts so I can see myself using both as layering pieces on summer layouts. I think both could also be used on fun cards.

I don't have a lot of use for either pineapples or flamingos, unless I am heading down your way for a vacation. I suppose you probably feel the same about winter lines with lots of snowflakes and winter scenes? Those are great for me!
I think of all the icons I have seen lately the most annoying is BoBunny's tropical cutesy penguin. Not sure of the name of that line "Make a Splash"? There are some okay papers, but for me most are ruined by that stupid penguin!

grammadee my kids and I fly to Washington State for Christmas every year, and it has snowed the last two years we have visited! Definitely not a given for the west side of the state, but I love that I can use up some of my winter/snow themed scrapbook products. I haven't seen the BoBunny collection you're referring to, but tropical penguins would throw me off. Maybe they can be used with pics from Sea World? Doesn't Sea World, in Orlando, have penguins?

I don't like any of those totally random icons and motifs, at all... who was it that put pizza slices in a collection recently-- Amy Tan, I think? As to the OP question, we vacationed in Hawaii so I could use the pineapples, and I could maybe use flamingos on a zoo layout, but I don't like the way designers think they have to come up with a sort of oddball 'thing' to include. And Scrapper100--lumberjacks? really?!? I live in Phoenix, so we have plenty of cactus around, and I've THOUGHT about buying some of the cute cactus paper, but I decided not to. If I'm scrapping desert photos, the last thing I want to use for embellishments or papers is pastel-colored cactus. And the ONLY thing I can think that I would EVER use a LUMBERJACK for would be childhood memories of visiting the Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox statues in Minnesota.

There are some penguins in the Galapagos Islands-- the equator's about as tropical as you can get.

Well, I just brought my daughter and I new pj pants - with flamingos on....simply to use my flamingo stamps/dies lol
Flamingos aren't a happening thing in NZ - and the ones in the zoo, are NOT bright pink at all

I have a few sheets of flamingos because they are dd2 favorite bird and she collects them. It also works for some Florida vacation pics. The pineapples I would have trouble with but probably use them for Lilo & Stitch layouts. Glasses are easy since we all wear them. No on cactus, llamas and lumberjacks. Penguins I associate with winter not summer. Those darn mustaches and chandeliers were the worst!
Why can't they just leave the trendy images for the sticker sheets. I would prefer to be able to buy them as accessories only, it really prevents me from buying most paper lines. So many times I see paper I love only to glance down and see an image I don't like. I won't buy the paper if it has limited potential.

I find it interesting that such themed scrapbooking is so mainstream again after so many years of the industry telling us we didn't need a flamingo for a page about flamingos. I wouldn't use a flamingo die cut / sticker on a page about flamingos. I'd use it as an embellishment on a pocket or as part of an embellishment cluster for a summer page with bright colorful photos. There were pineapples and flamingos in the April Gossamer Blue scrapbook kit and I thought their design team did a nice job using those motifs on projects for blog posts.

I love flamingos, so I don't mind them in collections. I don't know what I'll do with them, but I love them.
Pineapples I just don't know. I guess I can use some day. Maybe if we have drinks on the deck at my parents lake home. Maybe I need to make some tropical drinks so I can use them!
It's random animals that bug me.
