As many of us have already stated, this isn't about whether or not Comey should have been fired. I think he mishandled the Clinton emails thing and have said so. It's about why Trump is choosing to fire him RIGHT NOW and not before. It's about this now being the third person Trump has fired who was leading an active investigation into the Trump campaign. He could have handed him his walking papers the day he entered office if this was truly about Comey's handling of the Clinton email investigation. It's a deflection to talk at this point to keep talking about the Clinton scandal and what the left thought of Comey at that time. She lost the election, she's not president now, and she's not the one firing people investigating her.

As much as I would love to see Comey or Yates leading the investigation, I don't think it's a good idea. I absolutely believe they would be impartial, and Comey has proven himself to be, but either of them would have the appearance of being partial. They would be assumed to have a political agenda. Once again, this needs to be carefully and right. I agree. It needs to be someone who has had nothing to do with any of this. Is Ken Starr still around?

Did you all see the description of Spicer hiding in the bushes from reporters and finally agreeing to answer questions if the turned off the cameras? I can't wait to see the SNL skit about that. The Anderson Cooper eye roll in response to Kelly Anne comments is pretty great too.
It is so clear there is something going on, but with the Republicans to scared to do anything but protect their party will anything really happen?

If Trump truly believed that he was doing a bad job on the Hillary e-mail thing, he would have fired him before this.
No matter what the reason, the fact that he fired Comey a few hours after CNN learned of the grand jury subpoenas makes it look very, very bad. The optics are just horrible. Maybe Comey is a horrible director, maybe not. But if you don't want it to look like you're firing him because of the Russia thing, you don't fire him on the same day that the subpoena news comes out. It's not just that he was fired, it was WHEN he was fired. (and when he wasn't...) if it was truly about Hillary's e-mail handling, Trump should have fired him long before now.

Oh, I know that, but hubris is strong in the Republican Party, they really don't seem to see what we see. They are just concerned with the immediate win.

If he had truly been upset over the e-mails thing (which he couldn't have been, since it contributed to his win), he would have fired him right off the bat. Not right after the Grand Jury and right before the Russian Diplomat visit announcements.

Yep, like (I think) I said before, it seems 45 was ok with (hell head cheerleader when it suited him) and "had confidence in" Comey up until he figured out that comey wasn't really on his side. and maybe quite the opposite. Simple as that.

I loved this tweet by Ken Jennings today:
Boy John McCain is going to tsk-tsk about this before he eagerly votes to confirm new FBI director Michael Flynn Wearing a Fake Mustache.

linkThe New York Times is reporting a couple of days before he was fired Comey asked the Justice department for a significant increase in money and personnel for the bureau's investigation into Russia's interference in the Presidential election. From the article. "The timing of Mr. Comey’s request is not clear-cut evidence that his firing was related to the Russia investigation. But it is certain to fuel bipartisan criticism that President Trump appeared to be meddling in an investigation that had the potential to damage his presidency." The plot thickens.

No photos from US media because they were excluded, but the photo Russia tweeted may not have been their media either, could have been from someone in the meeting. I bolded a section that I wasn't aware of before now, but I probably should have known. Source

I don't have much knowledge or understanding of the ins and outs of what is happening but I have an overwhelming sense of standing on the coast, gazing out to sea and just waiting for a country I am very fond of to implode. If our system works as it was designed, this is a correction, not an implosion. Luckily, the President's powers are limited, despite what he thinks. It may take a while to get worked out, but there is so much going on behind the scenes that indicates it's only a matter of time. Never underestimate the American people and their willingness to come together when it really counts. It isn't boring, that's for sure!

I'm glad the asshole's gone but I don't believe for one effing second that this firing didn't have something to do with the FBI's Russian investigation, especially when it was only a few days ago that Mr. Comey asked for additional money and resources toward that investigation.

In October, Keith Olberman was so outraged he wanted Comey to resign or be fired. Now he's outraged that he's been fired. In July Comey was the greatest thing since he "cleared" Hillary. In October he was terrible because he brought up the existence of more classified but unsecure emails from Hillary. Now, in May, he's the greatest again, because Trump fired him. I can't keep up with the flip flopping outrage.

I'm sure. It's quite complicated, what with all of those shades of gray and issues of context and nuance.

He should have put his bunny suit back on and maybe they wouldn't have seen him there. I fear it's going to take the Republicans losing their seats to do anything about Trump. That's also relying on the country being decisive about whether or not they can/will support a president who breaks the law.
