This was done with the Sweet Roll yarn. Same thing as the Caron Cakes in reference to the change of colors. They aren't the same in the fiber content. You can see the abrupt change of color. This was a corner to corner so I think it's even more noticeable in reference to the wide cream in the top right corner.

View AttachmentI admit to preferring a slow gradient but I really like the abrupt changes here. I think the C2C really suits them.

My current WIP. Adding purple and a lighter purple, then back to red and starting over.

I decided to challenge myself 😆😳 and attempt a cowl using the hydrangea blanket stitch and the leftover yarn from my two Caron cakes. It did challenge my maths a bit but I'm quite pleased with the result. Attachments:

Whirl is lovely! Definitely a gradient, changes one strand at a time so you hardly notice it at the time. If you don't want abrupt changes, it's definitely the one to go for. It is expensive but you can get a whole shawl from a single ball (even seen a dress from two!) Caron Cakes are a totally different animal, Aran weight vs the 4 ply of Whirl. ETA you'll have to forgive the terrible lighting, but here's how my Whirl project is looking. Delta Dawn this above explains a bit about the scheepjes whirl yarn hth 😊

So...I already have about 3 WIPs so it isn't like I needed another project but....when does that ever stop us? Last year, I did a dishcloth swap on Ravelry and they are doing it again this year and so even though I am super busy at work and have other projects on my hooks and needles, I thought, what the heck (I enjoyed the one last year and liked getting different dishcloths from all over the country) I need to make 5 of them and here are the first 2...the pattern is called Nineteen Hundred House DishclothI am going to make 5 different colors Save

I'm having fun dyeing the yarn blanks I've been hoarding. Yesterday I did a couple that reminded me of those rocket popsicles. Today I did two with purple and green. I'm not sure I like the purple but we'll see after they've been rinsed and dried. I also dyed a couple with black beans. I'll post some pictures soon.
I'm currently knitting a ponytail hat with some yarn I dyed with coffee. I'm going to try again with different yarn to see if I can get it darker. I don't have long hair anymore so I can't model the hat. DH suggested making a ponytail out of extra yarn to model it. "You got plenty of yarn for that." 🙄

That's pretty. Are they French knots in the centre? Try as I might I can never get them right. @dknitter such fun colours. Are your dyes colour fast?

I have a hard time getting french knots right. I just use an extra strand to make the stitch thicker.
So far everything is colorfast. A cold water and vinegar bath helps set the color.

I have a crazy question for you. Are these Caron Cakes the same Caron Cakes that Michaels in the US and Canada sells? They are double the price in the UK than they are here. That's why I was asking.

Delta Dawn I would have thought so. I can't believe there would be a Uk/European version just for sale here. The cost will be higher because there will be the cost of carriage to get it here, import tax or whatever it's called these days, customs duty and VAT. I buy leather items from the US (from Oberon, great company!) and by the time the item has reached me I'll have actually paid at least twice the price shown online because of all the charges.

I love that photo with the bomb pop and the yarn. So cool!! Some more rocks I painted this month. Storms every day here keep me in painting each evening instead of out walking. The Kraken rocks are for a group event I'm attending at the end of the month. The theme is "mythological creatures." These were for Cow Appreciation day at Chick-Fil-A. Two of my kids dressed up for free food. I've been saving the broken rocks to do something with.. I also painted lighthouses and some sunshines and left them along our roadtrip.

It's not just yarn, every crafter I knew who visited the States always made a point of visiting a craft store and buying lots.

Loving all the projects and skills on show in this thread. Very talented ladies here.
I've been a bit behind in my craft projects and school holidays start next week so will need to be a bit more disciplined if I want to complete anything over summer.
