She was a receptionist in an advertising agency some 20 years ago, at the beginning of her work career. Y'all, if this is how we're retelling our career stories, I've worked in the medical field alongside surgeons! Haha. And I was basically the Attorney General of the United States! (reality: I interned for Obama’s AG’s office for 3 months when she was a US Attorney)

Half the episode topics are taken from discussions in the fb group anyway, so the members should be paid for the creative content, right?

So, if you want to listen to the class you are giving and not being paid for, you can pay 5 dollars to listen to it ;/

I wonder if they will still be able to book bigger-name guests. It might not be worth it for people like Ali to come on anymore now that it's only being broadcast to a much smaller audience.

I'm not a "scrap celeb" so I don't really know how the industry works, but if I was one... I would go on a podcast that is freely available as a guest for exposure. If I was going to contribute to someone's else's paid content, I would expect to get paid (or something of value in return, such as free product--but that's not applicable to this situation because the SGs don't create product). I would hope that the majority of scrap celebs will feel the same way.

I would hope that the majority of scrap celebs will feel the same way. This is what I had been thinking too. If I were going to be broadcast to a smaller audience because of a pay wall, I would expect to be paid as well. Most of the people in their FB group already follow Ali, and the others that offer classes, so it's not like they would be reaching new people. And I think we all know the ScrapGals aren't going to pay anyone to be on their show. They didn't want to pay someone to teach a class at their retreats.

I would rather pay $5 a month to not have to listen to Tracie Claiborne’s voice

Tracie still has the PayPal button live on her site asking for donations to help with podcast fees.
Super classy

I don't see how they will ever get any new people interested in the podcast. Heck the listeners have more scrapbook experience than Tracie does!

I just found them a few months ago but don't think I will be paying. Are there any other scrapbook related podcasts that are free?

I am not going to sub, even though I will miss having a regular scrappy podcast to listen to and actually enjoyed most of the episodes. But I've already replaced it with two non scrappy ones, so I'll be fine Some people were ripping on the recent adhesive episode, but that one actually was beneficial to me and I am trying out a few new ones thanks to recommendations on there.
I know as some people stated on the fb post that $5 really isn't that much money. But actually to some it is and it adds up. Frankly, I can afford it, but I have a specific budget for my hobby now so I don't go crazy with my spending. And I am sticking to it!
There were also a few people who posted why should Tracie and Tiffany give notice and what difference would that make. Well, it's not like we didn't see it coming. Truthfully it's been mentioned a few times. But still it would have been a little bit of a courtesy to say, hey we are seriously considering this so be prepared for an announcement if it does happen. I hated losing Paperclipping, but I completely understood and respected Noell's decision. And I will say, I don't begrudge Tracie and Tiffany wanting to make money off this venture since they do seem to put a lot of work in. It's their perogative.
But I have to agree that it really doesn't seem the most successful plan as far as podcasts go. All of the podcasts I listen to are free except one - the No Sleep Podcast. And No Sleep actually has a membership but still offers two or three free stories each week and then two stories for members only. They have a huge fan base and I really appreciate how they cater to both. I think the person who mentioned that it would be great if the Scrapgals had one or two free shows a month and then episodes for paid subscribers only had the right idea. I probably would have hung around the fb group then and maybe entertained subbing down the road. Now it's just meh to me after seeing how in the announcement post they really just focused on the people who said what they wanted to hear and pretty much ignored the people who were disappointed. No one said anything mean. Just expressed their surprise and sadness that they could no longer listen.
So I left the FB group because it just really doesn't have any value for me anymore. I did enjoy the challenges on the NSD crop, but honestly I am a member of a few scrapbook groups and most of them had challenges as well. So I have enough inspiration right now.

Half the episode topics are taken from discussions in the fb group anyway, so the members should be paid for the creative content, right? There is that. And what keeps someone from waiting 6 months to pay for a subscription and then they get to d/l 6 months worth of shows, for only $5, versus the person who paid $5 a month ($30). How is that fair? If the number on the Podbean profile is an accurate representation of the number of subscribers, they have managed about 500, out of a Facebook group of 10000. I wonder what the goal was for immediate subs? Oh wait, does Tracie set goals? If they do t get enough premium subscribers, will they stop producing a show a week?

I don't know how podbean works but this was what I was thinking. I don't listen to their show every week.....usually I let them pile up and listen during a road trip or long crafting session. Why would I need a monthly subscription?

And as MaryPea points out, a lot of cash. I would ordinarily be happy to see anyone succeed like that but she brings out my bad side.

To be honest I've already considered this as an option since I enjoyed listening to it. If they do t get enough premium subscribers, will they stop producing a show a week? I won't be surprised. Several people in the group have asked if they can buy a yearly subscription and Tracie has responded they want to see how this goes before offering it.
